Hay buddy I got a question for you and you probly got a video on it already I missed it but ok I've been natural for 15 years I started out 140 pounds I'm now 220 and only 15 to probly 18% body fat but here's my question I've been lifting heavy for most of all those years for 8 to 12 reps I've always been told that lightweight and higher reps just burns your muscle down smaller and weaker now I'm hearing you have to do it for growth I understand it pushes more oxygen and nutrition in muscle and good pump but I'm natural I just don't want to go down that road if it's going have opposite effect and what's your take on that

mostly agree with you but lol most people with average genetics will NEVER parallel non-stop rep out 500 pounds for 30 freakin reps, thats upsurd man. Arnold and Lee Haney never did 500 pounds for 30 freakin reps LOL c'mon. IMO if someone can do 225 for 30 reps their prtty much a beast if they are natural

Crank the reps, but keeping training to get stronger. Squat 200X30, next time train for 205X30. In 5 years do 500X30. Take it from someone who's lifted for 21 years, strictly for power. I've competed in both pro level strongman, and powerlifting. Reps are way more beneficial long term for both muscle growth, and cardiovascular conditioning. Singles and heavy sets of 5 break down your joints over time. NO GOOD

Dmackay516 Mackay that's funny that you say that, because at your age, your life would probably improve if you supplemented testosterone (research "testosterone replacement therapy" and/or "hormone replacement therapy") and you'll see that it has many benefits. With each passing year, your body will probably benefit more and more from the supplementation of testosterone. Why do I mention this? Because "steroids," at least if the steroid being used is testosterone, take the exact same compound and simply increase the dose to some extent. It is nothing to be ashamed of if used responsibly and one's health is monitored.

I lost muscle over a 6 month period last year by trying to go too hard with a diet and excessive cardio. I had got down to 205 lbs from 245 lbs, but I had lost leg size and strength in the process. I had spent the following 6 months after that bringing the food back up and dropped cardio out to get back to 245 lbs. Not only did I get back to 245 lbs, but I did it without increasing my fat mass all that much. I'm larger than I was in musculature to the starting 245 lbs. Since switching my food up 3 weeks ago to drop carbs back down, I've came down to 234 lbs without adding any cardio.

Dear Plaeng Nakrien - it is because it constricts the circulation and therefore reduces blood to the muscles. However some caffeine can help in weight loss as it raised your resting heart rate (after workout is better).

Plaeng Nakrien it's because caffeine is the opposite of a vasodilator. He wants to walk around with the biggest pump possible, and caffeine makes it so that you can't really huge pumps. He feels that caffeine is better after a workout.

Do you ramp up the fats (butter, coconut oil, etc) to get your body to actually drop "into ketosis" when doing this? I was researching it a while back, and most of the ketosis-heads articles I found seemed to agree that the fat intake has got to go up. I'm just curious if you do this, because you didn't seem to mention that one way or the other. I've tried ketosis as a long-term habit a few times, but I definitely got flat-looking and definitely hurt when trying to put any cardio in. But I kept my fat calories very high.

Totally agree, you have to find the right approach for yourself. I personally use a modified version of the velocity diet, which is really just a lean protein sparing liquid diet, with a little bit of solid food in there.. I just want to get lean enough to see all my muscle, not that I'm huge, but at 220 now, I believe I have about 190 pounds of lean mass, give or take, so I'd be happy just dropping more body fat. I'd love to bounce some ideas off of you in terms of training, but I don't really know how to get a hold of you directly

Hi James. Great videos and message. Thanks for all the work you put into the lifestyle. I have a question and would love to hear your take on it. Before retiring I was involved quite closely with several naturopathic doctors in the development and presentation of a healthy eating program for young physically fit / high functioning adults. The naturopathic doctors thoughts were to move away from an acidic diet and towards an alkaline diet, where they believe our bodies are in a healthier state for repair and functioning. However, it would seem that the large and continual consumption of protein we consume as bodybuilders would leave our bodies in a constant acidic state. I know you consume a healthy diet and supplement with V8 juices etc., but do you have any thoughts on how we can improve our alkalinity? Thanks.

17 pounds in two weeks huh? Not bad but I can help you even more. I know keto been studying it and twerking it. The best way is this and it worked for many. Carbs below 20 or 30 or when u reach ketosis, fats below 35, and protien being at least 120. Do this for three days only and I bet this will work better. Not trying to challenge but just giving my knowledge. Try it out brother let us know how it goes.

Great stuff JTV! I was on Keto for 3 months. It was f...ing tuff until I found that using Bone Broth in the am....1 cup helped me get out the the Keto Flu and made me feel on point. I loved the diet and dropped 15 pounds. Now, I'm beefing up my protein (150 grams/day) and carbs (no more than 50 grams/day). Staying lean and losing about 1 pound every week. Strength is up too and size is moving in the right direction. Keep the vids coming! Oh.....how do I get one of your shirts?

I started at 145lbs, now I'm at 180lbs and growing... The secret is FOOD and CONSISTENCY! Training is really LAST in line for us guys with fast metabolisms. Took me SO many years to learn that...burning myself out in the gym, Not making progress, couldn't figure out why! But You gotta learn to eat during all the inconvenient times during the day!!! I gotta prep like 3 meals every day for Work, then prep my 2nd dinner for college class every night....all those small meals during the day fucking MATTER big time!!! They add up real fast during the length of 1 week. Your day basically Revolves around food...supermarket runs, etc. And if you're having a shitty week, you gotta plan for Backup food...mcdonalds...pizza, etc....just to keep calories in your system and keep that metabolism Bogged down. But you gotta learn to use your Off Days to plan your meals for the week, and it's actually pretty easy.

I was just watching a video about restricting protein for health reasons, check out "Dr. Ron Rosedale - 'The Early Ancestral Connection Between Protein, Cancer, Aging and TOR'." I've been eating tons of protein for years, but I'm going to try limiting to .6g/lb and see how it goes.

+Demo Ergo thanks, most of the studies are done on obese, elderly or sick people.... some on average non trainees and only a small percentage on trainees, but then they only do a few sets of leg extensions and only for a few weeks... studies are expensive, and they never train real hard like bodybuilders do who more often then not are on gear... and are genetically better responders to training and recover better.... so , they utilize protein much better then a frail 70 year old lady doing a few leg presses with lwo weights. drug companies who often fund the studies are interested in sick people not strength athletes. thats where the dissonance comes from from what the scientist claim is optimal prootein and what the Bro's say with real life experience sometimes over decades. and all of them, oldskool and new skolol, Tiny, Coleman, Leroy COlbert re.i.p., Arnold, all of them said to eat a lot of protein or forget about it.

i used to do low protein, i could live on it , but when ur goals are bodybuilding and u train real fucking hard, protein is a necessity, but still its even then good to toggle on /off periodically to resensitize the body to protein... sadly carbs and fats dont repair and grow muscle.. and that rosedale feller isnt talking about strengthathletes but general average people who dont utilize the protein they eat as much and it becomes a burden

Hello mr Tiny.. I was wondering if you could clear something up for me.. You only spoke about carbs and protein but not fat intake.. You say that you started your first phase taking in 100 grams of protein from Whey powder and you did not consume any carbs and as far as we know it does not seem or at leat you did not mention that you took in any calories from fat.. This would have to mean that you lived on only 400 calories a day from protein for 14 days with no ther calories coming from fats or carbs.. This can't be correct, I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything.. But I think it would be impossible for a man at your frame size and muscle masss to survive on 400 calories a day for two weeks and work a full time job and then hit the gym and train with heavyweights on 400 calories a day.. If you were able to do that without fainting you should be in the Ginuesss book of world records..

this is indeed very weird ... the body can cope with stresses related to temporary low calorie and will adjust calorie expenditure , it is in our dna , and hunger was a more common in the past.... i dont know. maybe two weeks is a period in which james body can handle it without destroying itself

This may be a bit expensive, but I mix 1 scoops of Isopure with 2 scoops of Syntha 6 after my first meal following workouts. I have type 2 diabetes and usually my glucose drops to 75-80 after that first meal. The Syntha 6 isn't a high quality product but 30grams of carbs with the isolate is excellent for me with about 66-70 grams of fast and slow digesting protein.

what i always wonder is : is it really necessary to go low carb to lose fat on a fast rate? does the body only really start to dig into fat reserves when carbs are not available ? or is it irrelevant and jsut a misconception ? what if one takes carbs to keep muscles full, but dalternates high rep slow twitch fibre work which should in theory not deplete glycogen but more fat if done long enough with fast twitch heavy work to preserve muscle mass? have noticed after watching enhanced athlete \s channel adn his coath Marco that if u do non superset rest pause high volume low weight work , one still can do and even better heavy work right aftyer that.. it seems the energy system used is not the same

I have done this before. in 2007. I was replacing every carb I cut with protein. and i drank about 8 cups of coffee throughout the day each day. I was slower with the carb cutting I cut 60 grams of carbs and added 60 grams of protein per week. until I was at only 64 carbs and close to 500 grams of protein. I think my fat intake was between 30 and 40 grams. cardio every other day. between workout days. I wasn't getting stronger but I was getting leaner. I also took the first version of lipo6. as a pre wrokout. I got this idea from watching the Ronnie Colman dvd he had at the time. it wasn't the smartest thing to do at the time. but I wanted to see what would happen if I tried.

Studies show we need ALOT less protein Than we think, so other than no carbs this diet should work for anyone long term! .7-1g protein per lbs bodyweight

those are often studies done ons edentary or sick people to determine the minimal amount needed for them to heal or fucntion.... extensive studies double blind controlled on real bodybuilders who train hard havent been really done.... cant compare a ferrari to a small fry average car.

Good stuff. I'm in Ketosis now and when I play hockey I use TKD approach and take 50 grams Karbolyn 30 minutes before gamete and sip another 25 grams during game. this makes it easier.to slip back into ketosis vs doing CKD and pounding 300-500 grams of Carbs. Works great and I continue to lean out. Skating and workouts are great!

i noticed too that small amounts of karbolin or cyclic dextrine have a longer and better effect on energy availability during intense excercise then conventional fast carbs.... ever tried palatinose ? it doesnt absorb as fast as karbolyn but does give longer duration release of energy

no surprise at all that you're having such good results. It's carbs(grains and sugars in particular) that make all mammals, including humans, fat. Fat will always be the culprit though. Attitudes won't change much.

not really , its excess calories which arent used and fat itself that makes us fat. much of carbs is burned off as heat and lipogenesis uses up some of it for the chemical reaction. fat on the other hand doesnt need to be processed and is easier stored. i suspect that eating complex carbs too much in one setting on the wrong time or too many times a day is what creates the fat stores.. : when glycogen stores and liver glycogen is saturated then the excess carbs becomes fat if not burned with activity... : its easier to dose fast carbs liek fruit or karbolyn jsut before a high intensity activity then the complex carbs. those complex carbs might be digested and released all at a inappropriate time when one isnt using them.... : at night carb use is much less, so if complex carbs are released during night it becomes fat easily. if glycogen si depleted, then it needs to be refilled , but overfilling will cause fatgainz... and the ebst way is to fill with fast carbs as it can be better dosed depening on the visual filling up of muscles with water ... now , protein which is absorbed slower is less problematic, and fats also. : i am now experimenting with : eating fast carbs all day when needed... : and protein all day , shakes or food.. and eating the fats at night with a shitlaod of veggies for vitamins and to slowdown the digestion and release of the meal.... and protein.... and even the glycemic index of so called complex carbs like potatoes and brown rice is still really high.... just fill the glycogen gastank with just enough to ride along and fill it regularly a little instead of doing a big fill and overflowing the system.

Hi James, great vid! and thx for doing it! You mentioned you don't have pumps on keto, now i've been doing keto diets for leaning out on and off through out my 6-7 years of working out, and i want give you an advice that i found worked really well for me and really helped me getting pumps while on 0 carbs. What I would do is have an avocado or 2 preworkout and grind some sea salt on top of them, it really helps slamming up the electrolytes right before the workout and keep your muscles filled with water and all of that, just friendly advice, obviously doing what you're doing is working great for you. I like Isopure and have been using it for many years - it has always been my on the go RTD of choice.  I usually have a couple cases at home and a bottle in my lunch box every day (I may not always drink it but it is there if I feel I need it).

I use Isopure. IMO its a nice protein that isn't real thick and heavy with with filler, so it isn't unsettling on the belly. But that being if your using it as a meal or snack in your diet regimen you may want to add some fruit or oats to the mix.

Thanks this is great information and all of it is very true. I have gone from 315 and very unhealthy to 256 and a lot healthier in the last 9 months. I got a bit more to go but its a start and ive been documenting it on my channel. Thanks for helping me on my journey man.
