The Sunscreen Myth: Sunblock Causes Cancer

591 ratings | 9099 views
Sunblock Cancer Correlations Benzophenone - sunscreen https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/chemicals/benzophenone (Known as a cancer causing agent on the top 65 list in california.) http://monographs.iarc.fr/ENG/Monographs/vol101/mono101-007.pdf (Shows the carcinogenicity of the ingredient in experimental animals, no human subjects were available for testing - wonder why??) http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0060567#s3 (This study showed that breas cancer cells when exposed to this chemical caused augmentation!! It literally made the cancer cells grow!!) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1936973/ (This study showed an increased case of renal cancer in male rats and an increase in leukemia and nephropathy. This study is pretty significant, supporting the major carcinogenesis of this chemical.) https://academic.oup.com/endo/article/148/6/2835/2502083 (This article shows that that this chmical can inhibit the Thyroid peroxidase and can thus inhibit the thyroid hormone pathway. It's even more pronounced in cases deficient in Iodide. This was in rats and in vitro human cells.) 4 MBC - sunscreen https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29658634 (This study showed a variety of chemicals in the breas tissue of women undergoing Mastectomy. Out of the seven women who had 4-MBC concentrations present at the breas site, six of them actually it at the tumor site.) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1240241/ (This study showed with dermal exposure to hairless rats uterine weight was increased dose dependently.) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26965011 (This study correlated these UV ultraviolet Filters to a greater indication of Neuroblastoma and have some gonadal and thyroid hormone influencing effects.) Avobenzone - sunscreen https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10232823 (This study showed that there was free radical production when this chemical was degraded in the sun.) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29710614 (This study showed that the use of this and a few other UVA skincare filters caused an increase in the production of inflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor- Alpha and interleukin-6) melanin even mentioned that the signaling pathways were increased anywhere from 2-10 fold.) Homosalate - sunscreen http://www.iarc.fr/en/publications/pdfs-online/prev/handbook5/Handbook5_Sunscreens-2.pdf (This handbook of cancer prevention on page 21 middle column lists the in vivo effects of this chemical and the fact that it does have mutagenesis effects. They concluded that since it was just during the use of sunscreen or sun protection and just in vivo then it should be safe to use.) OctoCrylene - sunscreen https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17015167 (This study showed that this and a few other UV filters increased ROS (reactive oxygen species) production on the skin. After the 60 minute mark the amount of ROS on the skin exceeded that in the control group.) http://www.faculty.ucr.edu/~christob/Sunscreen_enhancement.pdf (This study shows the accumulation of free radicals on the when it is exposed to these chemicals.) https://www.thedermreview.com/octocrylene/ (This article from the dermatology review states the paradox with this chemical causing free radical damage on the skin even though it is meant to reduce the amount of free radicals produced saying that this is a minimal side effect.) Octinoxate - chemical sunscreen https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15560736 (This study showed that the presence of the free radicals produced with this chemical as well as avobenzone persisted even after the exposure to the chemical had discontinued.) Chris having lived in the Middle East and having had sufficient sun exposure and pretty good food that was natural traditional “non American fast food” it’s amazing that after moving to North America my family development severe allergies to various foods, dust, and fumes/scents. Not to mention yoyo weight gain loss. Don’t know if it’s the damn water, air, food, or all the above. But elder relatives lived to 90-100 with few ailments and NO ONE ever had an “allergy” let alone was over weight or had high blood pressure or diabetes. All these ailments are spreading like wild fire across Asia now though. Including these imported bizarre allergies. Never used sun block and I know ppl exposed to sun for decades and they actually look good (see Indonesian villagers) indigenous ppls living in pacific islands and Mediterranean counties. They’ll kick you if u offer to lather these poisons on them.

I found out that sunscreen can cause cancer a few months ago. I've always been allergic to sunscreen so that's good lol. The title of your video kind of confused me though, I thought you were going to say that sunscreen doesn't cause cancer.
Charlie M (6 days ago)
So I'm better off burning?...
Charlie M (6 days ago)
grimglum You can definitely get skin cancer by burning/overexposure to the sun, so I guess you are screwed either way...
grimglum (6 days ago)
Charlie M would you rather your skin burn or would you rather get cancer? Lol

This brings up thoughts about chemicals in our shampoos. The ingredient list looks similar.
jadehelm288 0 (12 days ago)
Haven't used sunscreen since 2003. And the reason all these chemicals are knowingly allowed to remain in the market in the form of pharmaceuticals, sunscreens, food, Dental remedies such as mercury fillings and toothpaste, autism-inducing vaccinations and beverages is because jews run the companies. To find a non-jew heading an organization in order to dismiss that is like saying Trump controlls his cabinet(all jews)

This is GOLD. I appreciate all that you do brother. Recently been realizing how little we actually take care of ourselves and how everything we consume or put on our skin affects us so much more than we could imagine

Citizen T (13 days ago)
Hey, I don't use soap on my skin ever. I go in the Australian sun shirtless - all seasons - regularly , wash in plain water or in the ocean and never use sunblocks, skin moisturizers or pharmaceuticals.. and I never ever burn.

Man this money making country sucks! Honestly I'm so woke now!!! Everything they promote on televisions with beauty ads / products and food is a death trap!!!!!!!
deadwood (14 days ago)
What about the link between sunglasses and sunburn? Supposedly the UV receptors in the eyes are given a false reading when sunglasses are worn, tricking the body into thinking that the light is much weaker than it actually is, and then melanin production is lowered resulting in more burning. I only wear sunglasses when I absolutely have to when driving.
Christopher Walker (14 days ago)
interesting! I've never heard that theory but it's intriguing... I'll look into it more
thespanish21god (15 days ago)
Thanks for exposing how DAMAGING sunscreen can be. When I found out about this a LONG time ago, I stopped using it and actually started to EMBRACE the sun and I am careful now about tanning little-by-little so as not to overexpose myself to the sun and at the same time, get vitamin D.

Love your videos and your investigative studies into those chemicals. I have rarely used sunscreen, when I was 10 years old I started laying in the sun with just putting baby oil on. I am going to be 55 at the end of the month and my skin is pretty damn good, people are always surprised when I tell them my age they think I'm 10 to 15 years younger. Stay away from all those chemicals!
Dirty Vagrant (18 days ago)
Apparently sunglasses lead to more burning and more cancer as well because they block the uv sensors in your eyes that tell your brain to make the proper melanin to protect your skin.
Todd Doige (18 days ago)
Was just thinking it might be beneficial for some if you looked into the research regarding niacin and skin cancer (zinc too?). Runs in my family and I find this video particularly interesting....
Balkan Alchemist (19 days ago)
Yes, people enjoy their suffering. They enjoy being poisoned. It is their mission in this life. They all know how to read ingredients but still put on the cream. We have also been infected with that and must work very hard to clean out that reality from us. Instead of using all those studies here is a better rule: all names that are hard to pronounce(modern) are dangerous to your health....btw. you will be targeted by the dark magicians for changing the reality too much to the positive. Common sense thinking is not enough protection from that.

Steven N. Johnson (20 days ago)
Wow, what an excellent example of the lack of thorough review and understanding of the studies, context, and data. One cannot simply read the abstracts of studies found on Google and come to definitive conclusions. That's not a reasonable and rational dissemination of the data. There is this thing in the scientific and academic community call "Peer Review". This validates studies by qualified scientific and academic peers. You do not qualify any of the sited studies as to the validity of the data. To come to a conclusion that sunscreen is the cause of cancer (based on the scanning of select study abstracts) is like trying to get a university education by only reading the Cliff Notes for every class. This video demonstrates the arrogance of ignorance. The presenter clearly has an adgenda and has searched the internet for supporting data. This is not the scientific method, and even a freshman at Duke would know that. If you want to prove a theory, reading a few paragraphs from work that others have done is not enough information to make any conclusions.
George Japaridze (20 days ago)
Chris keep it up, I really like your approach towards these things.
Vincent Lane (20 days ago)
Chris, I have acne keloiditis on my scalp. Do you think inflammation relief can help? Nothing seems to work. Not even topical and oral antibiotics!
chaste waifu (20 days ago)
This is fundamentally flawed... literally every point made in this video demonstrates poor comprehension of the data with these wild misinterpretations. Mouse studies? Lol... 6:39 ?? There is empirical data that proves that sunscreen can prevent skin cancer. There is insufficient data to suggest that sunscreen causes cancer.. Remember some people can get their information from a random person onYouTube, while others have higher standards, like a medical professional

I was reading up lately on getting a tan and seems they all say a tan is an indicator of UV damage from the sun and that your skin increases production of melanin or something which makes you browner to take less damage, so having a tan is bad and the sun is bad and we should all be hermits.
Anthony Belton (18 days ago)
Transmit Coordinates yes I agree everyone’s skin is different and some are less affected by sun damage. Yet in saying that some of the healthiest and most vital people I have seen are surfers. A great example is much loved Australian surfer Mark Ochillupo, he is into his 50’s and looks super healthy. If you want to check him out he has a podcast called Occ cast. Worth checking out because he is such a character relaxed and laconic. One of Australia’s favourite sons.
Asschested Muthafuqa (18 days ago)
This mysterious so called olive skin just means that you naturally have higher melanin in your skin, i.e. what you call a permanent tan. I was referring to a tan in the form of scar tissue resulting from burning. So it depends on your complexion how well you can tolerate that. If you're naturally pale, it's not a good idea.
Anthony Belton (18 days ago)
I am nearly fifty and have been surfing since I was thirteen, I have olive skin so a permanent tan. I look way younger than most people my age often passing for someone in their late thirties. So much for tanned skin being un healthy.
Asschested Muthafuqa (19 days ago)
A tan is a layer of damaged skin, especially when the person is normally unable to produce much melanin. Talk about premature aging.
Leo Enlightened (20 days ago)
Iv always had clean clear skin, the only thing I can say is the dark circles under my eyes, not the worst but noticeable at times, as for the sun and sun cream why not just put a long sleeve shirt and a cap on ye head if it concerns someone that much, there seems to be a lot of crap pushed out there that do the opposite to what its meant to do in the name of health.
YaBoyNico (20 days ago)
This BLOWS MY MIND. I cannot believe it. Thank you Chris for making this video.
Angela (21 days ago)
skin cancer has increased because it's fashionable to be tan. This video is really dangerous and should be banned from the eyes of all gingers
Angela (18 days ago)
the US bans a lot of carcinogens - thought admittedly, sometimes a bit too slowly in the interests of corporations (as with leaded paint). If you are concerned about carcinogens, wear zinc (a natural mineral) based sunscreens. The sun leads to cancer so the sun is a carinogen too.
Asschested Muthafuqa (19 days ago)
Have you simply ignored all of those substances proven to cause cancer? It's not even hidden information. Willful ignorance of the highest order.

Since the ancient days how many thousands of people in middle east die due to skin cancer? ...nope didn't happen how about native american ? aztec sun worshippers..nope never happened..did they have commercial sunscreen..Lol..nope
chaste waifu (17 days ago)
اسماعيل ابراهيم that's why if you put 2 people side by side, one who sunbathes regularly, and the other who is always protected, it will be blatantly obvious that the sunbather has more dramatic skin damage
chaste waifu (17 days ago)
اسماعيل ابراهيم it wouldn't be significant enough to outweigh taking protective measures. Additionally, you're talking about a very tiny amount of exposure, which often people who take protective measures are exposed to regardless
chaste waifu (18 days ago)
اسماعيل ابراهيم it doesn't matter if some thing is alien to us tho. Vaccines are alien to yet nobody is running around with measles anymore . It's as simple as the fact that uv radiation from the sun damages DNA, and sunscreen helps to mitigate that damage
chaste waifu (19 days ago)
Transmit Coordinates this is dumb. There is no evidence of cancer being caused by sunscreen in humans..

Spot on! I’ve made natural sunscreens with coconut oil, and raspberry seed oil for Years now.
Ramon Almeida (12 days ago)
My uncle would apply coconut oil on his body thinking it could be used as sunscreen. It blackened his skin a lot more than it usually does. Fortunately he didn’t use it on his face.
Chandler Wilson (19 days ago)
iaagp its a natural SPF of around 4-6 so it would absolutely be for someone looking for some colour, however mixed with raspberry seed oil ( SPF 25-30 ) it will protect burning. Hope that helped brother.
iaagp (20 days ago)
I've been told to stay away from the sun while having coconut oil on your skin, cause it's an oil, and oil burns. Pls let me know, thx!

Abrahim Ghaddar (21 days ago)
I'm very curious if there are any sun blocking compounds that aren't problematic. The question is: What should very pale skinned people do if they live in sunny hot areas and they are exposed a lot to it due to working outside? Too much sun exposure really is dangerous for such people, what should they do? Cover up in 100 degree temperatures? Just looking for thoughts
gabriel aponte (21 days ago)
bravo
Is it inherently carcinogenic or is it because of the additives? Is the active ingredient, titanium dioxide, harmful?

I wised up to this recently after reading the book "estrogeneration" (highly recommend). Switched to a more natural sunscreen free of all the ingredients listed here. What do you think about Melanotan 2? I'm naturally very pale and I've been using it for a few years. It basically makes it impossible for me to burn. The only two side effects are a nice dark tan and the occasional sleep boner.
chaste waifu (20 days ago)
Did that drug literally fail clearance by the fda because it's a carcinogen?
Danger Mouse (21 days ago)
SMViking oh ok sorry i never heard of it before you mentioned it, maybe look up whats in it anyway if you are worried about any side effects.
SMViking (21 days ago)
Melanotan 2 isn't a sunscreen or a lotion. It's a peptide that stimulates the body into producing more melanocytes.
Danger Mouse (21 days ago)
SMViking check the bottle or w/e for the chemicals mentioned in this video
Simon Scott (21 days ago)
I'm English (mad dogs and (some)English men go out in the mid day sun). I go out in the sun in the early morning and later in the afternoon, until I get a tan. When the sun is low there is more atmosphere between you and the sun. When the sun is directly above you there is less atmosphere between you and the sun. Carrot juice sounds like a good idea. I think I'll try that too. Great vid thanks.

Asschested Muthafuqa (19 days ago)
chaste waifu What. The. Fuq. Is wrong with you?
chaste waifu (20 days ago)
Asura and considering that compliance to proper sunscreen use is rare, it is very obvious that sunscreen cannot be responsible for a rising cancer rate. There are larger factors, such as ozone depletion
chaste waifu (20 days ago)
Asura there's absolutely no medical literature that ties legal sunscreen to cancer in human models... As is indicated by this video... this dude literally spoke about marine animals for a majority of the video, because he couldn't find any evidence for his narrative on human skin
Asura (20 days ago)
chaste waifu So the high dkin cancer rates are a sign that they don't cause cancer?
jon hamm (21 days ago)
AIDS was man-made. So this doesnt surprise me

Wow I have just lost my trust in everything. No more lotions for me or deodorant or perfume or whatever am just going natural.
Asschested Muthafuqa (18 days ago)
We have the technology to make those same products with natural alternatives. You don't have an excuse for poor personal hygiene.
billy Bobby (21 days ago)
Awesome video! Speaking of going out in the sun, would be interested to see a video about your thoughts on chlorinated pools.

As always.... a walk towards the truth , you are the only person on you tube exposing the chicanery . i recommend my family and friends YOUR CHANNEL, coz its better than any book or website, enough for a healthy life, thank you s chris !!! sir can you please shed some light on sugar and tooth decay....? coz that too seems to be a myth... thank you again.....
Samanth Kuncha (21 days ago)
big fan !!!!!
Samanth Kuncha (21 days ago)
dude, what he meant is, sunscreen is a myth, because it actually causes cancer......
TrueDepth (21 days ago)
The title of this video is confusing. The title suggests sunblock causing cancer is a myth, while your video says the opposite.
Christopher Walker (21 days ago)
Samanth Kuncha oh that’s a great topic 👍 good idea
the mischief maker (21 days ago)
As a youth with fair skin, I burnt regularly. Became vegetarian at 21 and never burnt again and rarely used sunscrern (usually only when pressured by others) Even when vacationing in tropical locations. I’m now 50 and this makes a lot of sense to me.
Tom Jones (20 days ago)
the mischief maker I had the opposite. Became vegetarian (later vegan) at around 20 and found I burnt more. Now I'm eating animal products again I don't burn at all.
Dale Ancheta (21 days ago)
Now Chris you have me thinking. Sunscreen is applied whenever your in the sun but what about cologne and aftershave that you put on every morning before work or going to events. Are there any chemicals or additives in those fluids considered bad for the body?
Crystal Nyla (14 days ago)
Dale Ancheta yes all chemicals are bad for our bodies use oils
Reksio Sabroso (19 days ago)
Dale Ancheta DUH!
Erica Awake (20 days ago)
Absolutelly.... If you cannot eat it, don't put skin.
Shair Savage (21 days ago)
Christopher Walker damn that's gonna be super interesting
Blainjamin (21 days ago)
Yes. Often times its the same chemicals mentioned in this video. More than just aftershave and cologne too... one or more of these is used in many mainstream personal care products.
Diqhed Shlangman (21 days ago)
I remember in college an epidemiologist taught us that it's carcinogenic.

Andos (21 days ago)
Hey Chris, do you wash your face with any products? Also shampoo in our hair, will that cause issues?
Asschested Muthafuqa (20 days ago)
Never do the no-poo method or else your head will smell like poo when your scalp turns into a breeding ground for fungus. Not to mention the lice. There are plenty of natural alternatives in the market that are just as effective at cleaning if not better.
S A Y L E E (20 days ago)
Erica Awake 100% Pure all natural shampoo cosmetics. I like them. Order online.
Erica Awake (20 days ago)
Andos I am also interested in knowing. I can't find any shampoo that doesn't have any toxic chemicals. I tried the no poo method and my hair looked horrible. I don't know what to do?
Squares (21 days ago)
Andos Use water or natural soap with as few ingredients as possible, 2 or 3 and stuff that wouldn't kill you if you ingested it :)
Asschested Muthafuqa (21 days ago)
Shampoos do tend to have those chemicals. You can opt for the ones that don't have them. Best moisturizer on earth is the colorless odorless fractionated liquid coconut oil. Why clean with anything other than soap? Same as the shampoo, you can opt for ones that don't have xenoestrogens.
J Smith (21 days ago)
Looking forward to future videos on this topic. Doesn't sunscreen blocks UV rays which are responsible for promoting Vitamin D production?
maxwellbearclark (21 days ago)
can you do one on causes and cures for BPH ?
Christopher Walker (21 days ago)
maxwellbearclark yes that’s on my list
Squares (21 days ago)
It's crazy that this is legal (just like selling margarine should be criminal). It's even crazier that people put it on their skin after reading the label.
Mad Max (21 days ago)
Thanks for all this informatio...God bless you brotha...
Squares (21 days ago)
Yup,I don't use sun cream. Just be reasonable and don't stay too long in the sun without covering yourself. Should be common sense. The list of ingredients was just too long and without any research I know it was bad. I know that our skin absorbs nutrients or toxins...

Ashley Sebo I had suncream when I was a kid too but if you know better you should avoid it. How do you think your ancestors did it? Simple. Don't stay too long in the sun when it's high in the sky, that's all. Don't blame the sun or your kids...
Ashley Sebo (19 days ago)
NikoxD93 Ok. Yea I am the problem. Im guessing you don't have kids who want to go here and there in the summer. Give me a break. And don't worry I manage my kids just fine by putting sun protection on them so they don't burn .
Squares (19 days ago)
Ashley Sebo When I was a kid my aunt told me to not go on the sun too long when the sun was at the highest, especially in Greece. Wait a little bit, do a calm activity in the shade, Or in a forest. If you can't manage your kids, you are the problem.
Ashley Sebo (20 days ago)
NikoxD93 Oh yeah it's common sense. Lol. Uh, I'm guessing you don't have kids who want to go swimming in the summer for hours. How do you suppose we do this without getting a sunburn?!
