Walking is one of the first exercises we learned. It’s impossible to calculate the number of steps we have walked in our lifetime. As we get older, we tend to sit more. If we were to pay closer attention to this simple safe exercise we may do more of it. Depending upon how often you walk, you may be able to shed one pound or more a week. Doing the math, that could equal 20 pounds in five months, without dieting or going to a gym. And as those pounds fall away, you will be toning your muscles. Also, as you incorporate this routine into your lifestyle, your overall health will improve. Before long, you’ll be hooked. In today’s video we will take out a calculator to discover the best way to melt away those unwanted pounds by walking. So how many calories can you burn? This is determined by your weight and pace. If a person walks four miles an hour, which is a normal walking rate, you will burn about 400 calories. And walking three miles will burn and extra 300 per day. One thing you may find that will serve as an incentive is to use a pedometer throughout your entire day. Checking the pedometer will encourage you to increase your pace or distance. If you notice that you aren’t able to lose weight and are only maintaining it, just increase your daily distance or speed. Here’s a simple formula to remember: 1 Mile = 2,000 steps to burn 100 calories 1 Pound = 3,500 calories 1 Pound weight loss per week = 500 calorie deficit per day To lose 1 pound per week add 10,000 steps Here are a few tips on how to add 10,000 to your daily schedule. At the mall or grocery, park at the farthest space and walk Get off the bus at an earlier stop and walk Take the stairs when you can In bad climate weather, become a mall walker To obtain optimal benefits from your walk, be sure to maintain the proper posture: Keep your chin up Focus your eyes 10 feet ahead Take long strides Draw your abdomen toward your spine Squeeze those glutes Begin your walking regiment at 3 days a week, for 15 to 20 minutes a day. Gradually increase this to 30 to 60 minutes daily. It facilitates weight loss When we accelerate our body’s metabolism, we burn fat. Therefore, the faster we walk, the thinner we’re likely to become. 5. It helps avoid osteoporosis Walking stimulates and strengthens our bones, increasing their density and preventing osteoporosis and arthritis. It does this by improving our circulation. 6. It decreases stress Our body and mind become more relaxed when we walk, decreasing the likeliness of depression and other diseases. 7. It improves sexual activity Good circulation and oxygenation of cells can only result in the health and well-being of the body. So I’m sure you’re not surprised to know that walking 30 minutes a day increases sexual desire and energy. Walking to Lose Weight To burn calories, you need to walk at a constant rate. This is something that most of us don’t pay attention to. Also, it’s very important to be aware of the number of steps. Walking about ten thousand steps in an hour is usually suitable for those who want to lose weight quickly. If you walk like that, you’re body will be able to burn fat. To lose weight, you should walk at least three days a week at this intensity. Don’t worry! You don’t have to count the steps! The pedometer is a very good piece of equipment that can help you on your walks. It’s a portable device that counts a person’s steps by detecting the movement of their hips. What is reverse thrust? Explained by CAPTAIN JOE

Okay, I´ll break it down for you to the absolute basics. Reverse thrust is used to slow down the aircraft on the runway after touchdown. There are three main components which slow down the airplane on the runway: Primary Braking with disc or carbon brakes similar to your car Secondary with reverse thrust Thrid with aerodynamical braking with the ground spoilers So we have two words in reverse thrust. “Reverse” cause the turbines output is being guided into the reverse direction and as you might not know we apply "thrust" in order to increase the braking action. So let´s look at this video to see what happens at touch-down. Here you can see engine number one of a Airbus A320. At touch-down these flaps open up, so called “reverser doors”. They act as guiding vanes in the mid section of the bypass-channel of the turbine and force the accelerated air of the fan to blow into the opposite direction. Now these reverser doors don´t open automatically at touch-down, no you lift up these little levers which will activate the hydraulic system to apply pressure to the actuator which then opens the reverser doors. Keeping the levers in this position only give you “Idle reverse”, but as soon as you move the levers to the aft position, the engine will spool up creating more thrust increasing the reverse output. The engines will increase thrust up to 70% which then resembles in “Full reverse thrust”. I know it´s odd to think that you would apply thrust again just after touch-down. You can definitely hear the difference between “Idle” and “full reverse thrust”, trust me :) Using the reversers significantly decrease the landing distance, varying between aircraft, weight and environmental factors. If you look at this great video of here, showing a Boeing 747 touching down and applying full reverse thrust you can clearly see how the water on the runway gets blown forwards. I actually experienced that myself landing on a snow covered runway, we applied full reverse thrust and you could literally see the snow blowing infront of the aircraft. So when do you use reverse thrust? Using “idle reverse” at touch-down is mandatory by many aircraft manufactures and airlines. First and far most to immediately decrease the aircrafts speed and to stabilize the aircrafts roll out plus to reduce brake usage. Landing on wet or snow contaminated runways using reverse thrust is absolutely vital to decelerate the aircraft and preventing it from skidding and keeping it in a straight line. Full reverse thrust is not permitted at some airports due to noise abendement procedures or at least restricted in between hours from here to then. Nevertheless pilots can use full reverse thrust when deemed necessary, but might have to state their decision in a report. Airplanes with wing mounted engines may only use full reverse thrust until slowing down to a specified speed, cause using the reverser below that speed could blow up loose gravel on the runway which could get sucked into the engine and damage the turbine. For example in an Airbus A320 you would have to reduce "full reverse thrust to idle reverse" at 70 knots, and retract the reverser at speeds below 40 knots. There are many different reverser types out there, but all work after the basic principle by forcing the air or even the exhaust into the opposite direction. So I hope I´ve answered another aviation related question for you. Cause of their high mounted engines pilots don´t need to worry damaging the turbine due to gravel on the asphalt. And the well know MD80 with her rear mounted engines use to have a power back procedure, where they used reverse thrust to back out of a gate position. I´m not 100% if that procedure is still around? Jump Rope Interval Training Interval training involves alternating periods of high intensity activity with periods of low intensity rest and is an ideal method to crank up your fitness and fat burning while making your exercise shorter. Try jumping rope as fast as you can for 30 seconds and then rest for 60 seconds. Repeat ten times for an effective 15 minute blast of cardio and fat burning. Looking for a greater challenge? Make like a boxer and jump rope for 3 minutes and then rest for one. This simulates the demands of rounds of boxing but without the danger of getting punched in the nose! Perform three to six rounds. If you are looking for the daddy of all interval training workouts, try a Tabata. Tabatas involve working flat out for 20 seconds and then resting for 10 seconds. Repeat this sequence eight to ten times for a four to five minute exercise guaranteed to leave you feeling like that was the longest couple of minutes of your life. For extra credits, try performing double unders - two rope turns per jump. Jump Rope Circuit Training Circuit training is a great method to develop cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance at the same time and it additionally is a terrific fat burner. Try this simple bodyweight circuit exercise which works each of your major muscles and will burn a lot of calories as well. 30 seconds jump rope 30 seconds press ups 30 seconds jump rope 30 seconds squats 30 seconds jump rope 30 seconds crunches 30 seconds jump rope 30 seconds burpees Rest 30 - 60 seconds and then repeat the whole sequence three to five times. Early research suggests that metabolic acidosis may reduce exercise capacity, especially high-intensity exercise. Ingestion of blood buffering foods can enhance exercise performance. The effects of specific alkaline diets on anaerobic performance has not been well studied. Some folks have recommended a low-PRAL (alkaline) diet in sprinting athletes among others. The authors of this study wanted to see if an alkaline diet would influence performance in high-intensity anaerobic performance. 4-day alkaline diet improved 400-m sprint performance and physiologic markers in young, amateur athletes. This is a small, early study which will need to be replicated at a larger scale to draw definitive conclusions, however it is very provocative. I would recommend you start educating yourself on acidifying and alkalizing foods and maybe your performance will improve too!
