TNR in Manjai: 1000 ticks and a dog.

07:14
My TNR team covers Manjai, a part of Serrekunda, at the moment. Many, many dogs are roaming the streets there, nearly none of them spayed/neutered. This female is owned! That doesn't mean being fed or cared for, unfortunately... We sprayed her repeatedly against the ticks with Cypermethrine, gave her Ivermectin as broad spectrum anti-parasite plus Imidocarb and Tetracycline against Tick-borne diseases. I hope she recovers well and can go back to Manjai next week. http://www.vetclinicgambia.com/ P.S.: Welcome to the team, Yannik!

Tinnitus and Candida: Is There A Connection?

02:44
Can candida cause Tinnitus? Is Tinnitus connected to candida? I’m going to talk about the connection, which I think is very powerful, between tinnitus and Candida or yeast infections and ringing in the ears or sounds in the ears. Many people I've seen over the years present with problems with their hearing. Let's not get confused with loss of hearing or dizziness or Meniere's disease, which is an entirely different thing. Moving the head and getting all dizzy. These will have different causes, but if you’re saying you get fluttering sounds in the ears, or ringing sounds that have come out of nowhere. If you can't relate to industrial deafness or if you use really powerful tools around you. If you haven’t been to wild rock concerts. If you haven’t gone to one of the concerts in America like Guns and Roses or AC/DC and heard all that head-banging music around you. Or been to wild parties and come home and your ears are ringing; if you can't relate to that, which I can’t, but you can relate to tinnitus or funny sensations in the ear, start thinking about a connection of the gut and the ear. Now you'll be thinking: "This guy's nuts. He's gone way too far now. What the hell's the ear got to do with the gut? Those things are well apart, no connection." There is a connection. In fact, it's only recently been discovered. The connection between the vagus nerve-or the biggest parasympathetic nerve in our body. That connects the gut up with different parts of the brain, the base of the brain, but it has very small branches called auricular branch, which connects to the ear. Having literally some gut issues or problems with bacteria, yeast infections, and antibiotics can cause ringing in the ears. Some antibiotics like Tetracycline are actually linked up with ringing in the ears. There is a connection, and that's because receptor sites get affected in the gut, prohibiting the uptake of neurotransmitters. This can cause things like anxiety, nervousness, depression, ringing in the ears, or weird types of sensations. If you're on antibiotics and you've got ringing in the ears and you can relate to that, you need to get your gut checked out. Maybe do a stool test and find out what's wrong with your digestive system. Correct that and often the tinnitus will improve. It's amazing how I've seen tinnitus clear up and improve once the digestion improved in people. There's definitely a connection. 01:30:18
Welcome back to our You Tube channel today here in this video we will tell about FUNGAL INFECTIONS. Candida infections commonly occur in warm moist body areas such as underarms. In this video we will tell about the effective natural solutions to help your deal with fungal infections. Different types of fungi are live and grow on your skin. There are approximately 1.5 million different species of fungi on earth, but only about 3000 of those are known to make people sick. Most of them aren’t dangerous. The Candida fungus is one of these potential harmful organisms. The rash often causes redness and intense itching. Candida can also cause infections in the nails, edges of the nails and corners of the mouth. Other conditions that may resemble candidiasis of the skin include are ringworm, hives, herpes, contact dermatitis , eczema, psoriasis. There are many lifestyles changes you can make to both prevent and treat a candidiasis infection. CANDIDA HAS BEEN BLAMED FOR HUNDREDS OF DISEASES AND CONDITIONS INCLUDING:-  Chronic headaches  Sinus problems  Depression  Chronic fatigue syndrome  Fibromyalgia  Skin issues like eczema or dermatitis  Sexual dysfunction  All types of cancer  Autoimmune disease Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by yeasts that belong to the genus candida. There are over 20 species of candida yeasts that can cause infection in humans, the most common of which is candida albicans. Candida yeasts normally live on the skin and mucous membrances without causing infection and however overgrowth of these organisms can cause symptoms develop. Other causes of fungal infections is even though you’re staying in the hospital to get better, it’s possible to get an infection while you’re there. How antibiotics work , Part 2 - Everything You Need To Know - Dr. Nabil Ebraheim

13:27
Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes how the antibiotic works. •Cell wall: 1.Penicillins 2.Cephalosporins 3.vancomycin Inhibit the cell wall synthesis by blocking the cross-linking. The penicillin-binding protein enzymes are involved in the cross-linking. Beta-lactams have a ring that binds to the enzyme and prevents the cell wall synthesis. When beta-lactam inhibits the cell wall synthesis, this will cause damage to the bacterial cell. If you are allergic to penicillin or cephalosporins, you may be given clindamycin or vancomycin. Vancomycin may be given if methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is suspected or encountered (vancomycin is essential in the treatment of MRSA). Patients allergic to clindamycin may be given Cipro. The penicillin-binding protein is involved. mecA gene allows a bacterium to be resistant to antibiotics. This is how MRSA develops. The bacteria produce an altered penicillin-binding protein that can do the cross-linking but has no affinity to Beta-lactam antibiotics. It renders the bacteria resistant to the effects of penicillin and cephalosporins. Vancomycin is used in these cases. The transformation from one bacteria to another. Plasmid. Three main mechanisms by which resistant genes can be transferred: 1.Conjugation: the bacteria may conjugate their DNA from one bacteria to the other through transformation via a sex pilus. 2.Transformation 3.Transduction There is another mechanism which produces an enzyme that will inactivate the drugs before it reaches the bacteria. This is beta-lactamase which is capable of destroying the beta-lactam antibiotics. The bata-lactam ring of the antibiotics is destroyed and will not be able to bind to the wall. •Cell membrane: polymyxin. Polymyxin will increase the cell wall permeability. •Folic acid synthesis: sulfonamides, trimethoprim. •Nucleic acid synthesis: •DNA synthesis inhibitors: 1- Fluoroquinolones: ciprofloxacin (gyrase). DNA gyrase is responsible for removing the superhelical twist so that DNA replication can proceed. The fluoroquinolones inhibit the DNA gyrase. Using cirpo may contribute to the condition of Achilles tendon rupture. 2- Metronidazole (direct effect on DNA). Bacteriocidal that creates free oxygen radicals that are metabolic bi-products which disrupt the DNA. Can be used to treat pseudomembranous colitis c.diff. RNA polymerase inhibitors: rifampin. RNA polymerase is an enzyme that produces messenger RNA. The synthesis of messenger RNA is called transcription. Messenger RNA is DNA dependant and uses it as a template. Rifampin targets and inactivates the RNA polymerase bacterial enzyme. Rifampin works against staph infection and the Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB). Staphylococcus aureus that is phagocytosed by the macrophages causes them to become intracellular (antibiotics cannot reach). 30S: 1.tetracyclines (doxycycline): avoided in children less than 12 years (impaired growth, and teeth discoloration) may be used to treat Lyme disease. 2.aminoglycosides (gentamycin): possible problems with ears or kidneys. It is used to treat ope fractures type III. 50S: 1.Clindamycin: may cause pseudomembranous colitis (c.diff). monitor patients who are taking warfarin (Coumadin). It can wipe out the bacteria flora from the gut (intestinal bacteria secrete vitamin K). usually used if the patient is allergic to penicillins or Ancef. Clindamycin creates C/diff that is helped by antibiotics. Use cirpo if allergy to clindamycin or flagyl if c.diff is created. Clindamycin will achieve the highest concentration in bone. 2.macrolides (erythromycin): be aware of Coumadin interaction. 3.Zyvox (linezolid): used in resistant gram-positive bacteria 4.chloramphenicol: watch out for anaplastic anemia. Other points of interest •When you add antibiotics to the cement, the maximum effect occurs at 2 weeks and there will be no effect at 8 weeks. •Panton-Valentine Leukocidin (PVL) is a cytotoxin produced by Staphylococcus aureus and this toxin may cause necrotizing fasciitis or necrosis of the tissues. It is usually found in the community-acquired cases of MRSA. There will be more complex infection. More incidence of DVT and PE. Candida Case Study 6: Aaron Antibiotics and Acne

05:54
http://www.canxida.com/ The most distressing thing for me is seeing this young man who has developed a chronic illness as a result of antibiotics prescribed for three years continually for facial acne. His mother took him to a doctor when he was just 15 years of age because he had a severe case of acne vulgaris. The doctor recommended low dose tetracycline, an antibiotic. Initially, Aaron noticed an improvement and his mother was happy. But after 12 months, the acne did not clear up, so the doctor just increased the dosage. Not once was Aaron instructed in any facial hygiene protocols, lifestyle or dietary changes. He was just recommended to take the antibiotics. After having been on these drugs for three years, his father brought him to see me because his mother does not believe in natural medicine. She just believes in the doctor. Aaron is feeling very terrible at this stage. He had a lot of tummy problems, so dad brought him in to see me. After we ran some tests, we discovered that his liver enzymes were significantly elevated as a result of the antibiotics. These drugs were basically poisoning his liver. The doctor never tested his liver enzymes, just kept him on the drugs. Besides, Aaron had developed a large rather severe case of jock itch and athlete's foot. The doctor prescribed an antifungal cream for the jock itch and ignored the athlete's foot. But most incredibly, he maintained Aaron on the antibiotics stating that the jock itch and athlete's foot were very unlikely to be related to the antibiotic. My initial recommendation was for Aaron to throw the drugs in the garbage can and began instructing him to stop all the soda drinks he was consuming and concentrate on a fresh food diet. We began him on a regime of antioxidants and an intensive, natural facial cleansing regime. It took six months before we got rid of his chronic yeast infection, but we eventually got rid of it. In Aaron's case, the initiating cause, of course, was the antibiotics, and the maintaining cause was the soda pop and the poor crappy diet. What do you think of that case? I saw a young man yesterday also, but he was 16, also a lot of facial acne. Now this mother did believe in natural medicine, so she brought this guy into see me. A very nice young man and a lot of acne around the face here and also on the back. What's his favorite food? Potato chips. He's eating potato chips every day when he comes home from school. Mother and father are separated. Father gives him soda pop and crap foods, and mother has a pantry full of potato chips, so we had a good long talk about the diet. I know that his father is a fan of conventional medicines, so I've said to the mom, “Please keep this boy away from antibiotics and please keep him away from drugs like Accutane or Isotretinoin, which is a synthetic retinoid of Vitamin A. This drug stuffs people up. It wrecks people's digestive systems. It makes them very, very sick indeed.” I hate kids taking drugs. I hate it. I can't stand it. None of my four children was ever introduced to any vaccines or antibiotics. I'm completely against these drugs. What you do with your kids is your call, but I'm pleased to say that my four children have grown up to be very strong, healthy people. They've never had any illnesses at all. When my child had an ear infection, I got him off cow's milk. We treated him with homeopathy, natural medicines; he cleared up within a week. I'm no fan of antibiotics. I feel that antibiotics have a place in an absolute minority of cases of life threatening diseases that are of bacterial origin. In cases of meningitis, you're crazy not to give them. Even if you don't know if it's bacterial or viral meningitis, you just give these damn antibiotics. But in cases of a little cut finger or a child steps on a thumb tack or a child has acne, these damn doctors put kids on drugs for two or three weeks. It's crazy. I've got absolutely no interest in this kind of treatment at all. Think about the word “antibiosis.” It's anti-life. Why would you give anti-life treatment to someone that you want to promote his or her health? It's just insanity. The truth is stranger than the fiction. And common sense isn't very common in medicine. If the doctors could only understand that these kids need to change their lifestyle, eat better food, and also there are natural medicines that have significant effect on improving acne like giving 30 milligrams of zinc twice per day. Recommending some B vitamins. We can also use different creams like oxalic acid cream. We can use tea tree oil preparations. There are many natural nice essential oils that can be used on the face. But to resort to antibiotics to me is madness because as soon as you compromise and wreck that gut, you're opening the gate for yeast infections and bacterial problems. You can set that person up for life for being sick for many, many years by starting them on this wicked course of antibiotics.

Is Tinnitus Connected To Candida? (Updated)

03:45
You can get my product canxida at http://www.canxida.com/ I'm convinced there is a connection between digestive issues and tinnitus. Candida may or may not be involved, it may also be a lack of beneficial bacteria or even SIBO. This is an updated version to this topic, I have completed a Tinnitus and Candida video in January 2016. Well, since I posted that video, I've had a lot of people contact me with tinnitus. An interesting thing is stool testing has shown some remarkable things with a lot of these patients. Lack of beneficial bacteria, very bad bacteria like Citrobacter, multiple Candida strains, and in some cases, parasites. Inflammation in the bowel I've also seen with tinnitus. I can tell you now, I'm almost certain there's a link between tinnitus and either Candida or low levels of beneficial bacteria, bad bacteria, or parasite or some type of a bug. There's a big connection between the small intestine and different parts of the brain. Now we know this through a major nerve called the vagus nerve that connects parts of the brain and different little nerves, small branches of nerves that innovate parts of the brain, even the oracular nerve that affects the ear is connected up to the vagus nerve, which is connected up to the gut. Hello? It makes sense when you think about. If your digestion is being affected and the brain is affected and there's some telephone cable between both of them. Maybe there's something wrong with the telephone cable or the connection on either end. Makes sense to me. Remember what the saying is I always use. "Common sense is not common today." We tend to think that tinnitus is some sort of problem in the head. But, of course, we're not talking about Meniere's disease. We're not talking about decalcification of small bones in the inner ear because the smallest bone in your body is in the ear. We're not talking about industrial deafness. We're not talking about your wife or your husband screaming at you all the time and creating what I call "selective deafness" or your teenager is driving you crazy or your dog or in my case, the parrot screaming all the time. We're not talking about noise here. We're talking about tinnitus. We're talking about fluttering sounds or crazy sounds in the ear. My mom had tinnitus for years. I notice it's a condition a little bit like Meniere's disease like the dizziness that some people get. It seems to affect a lot of people in their 50s and 60s. An interesting fact also is many people with tinnitus have got gut issues. If you're watching this video now and you've got some kind of digestive issues like burping, bloating, gas, flatulence, constipation or difficult bowel motions or loose bowel motions, anything like that. If you're a person watching this now who's been on an antibiotic, particularly something like tetracycline, for example, that's linked definitely with tinnitus. If you're a person who's been on a medication long term, my recommendation is to get your gut checked out. If in doubt, treat it out. Just treat it for Candida or bad bacteria and take maybe a good probiotic enzyme formula. See what happens. You've got nothing to lose. It's definitely worth a shot. As I mentioned, it's been a year since I've done this video. I've almost certainly noticed a connection between tinnitus and digestive disorders. Please look at some of my other videos on Candida. Familiarize yourself with this. Treat for Candida or treat for dysbiosis and see what comes out of it. You've got nothing to lose. Thanks for tuning in.

Your basic homemade medicines 10 tinctures to keep in stock

03:43
https://www.naturalnews.com/2018-03-01-homemade-medicines-10-tinctures-to-keep-in-stock.html Your basic homemade medicines: 10 tinctures to keep in stock Tinctures are liquid extracts from herbs soaked in alcohol or apple cider vinegar. These extracts can be used to make tea or salves or be used for other purposes. Tinctures are a great way to store your herbs for long periods of time while maintaining their medicinal properties. According to Survivopedia.com, vodka is a great alcohol base for herbal tinctures “because it has a high enough alcohol content to draw out and preserve the medicinal properties but it doesn’t have any flavor.” Below are some herbs that make for great homemade tinctures for use against a variety of health conditions. Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) – Bloodroot tincture is an effective herbal treatment for respiratory issues such as colds, cough, sore throat, sinus conditions, bronchial infection and pneumonia. It is also great for joint pains and swelling such as those caused by arthritis and rheumatism. Herbpathy.com cautions that pregnant and lactating mothers should not use bloodroot, as it can be highly toxic in large doses. Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) – Chamomile is widely used for medicinal purposes, most notably as a calming tea that reduces pain and stress. Because of its delicate aroma, it is a great tincture for kids who may be sensitive to strong scents. In addition, chamomile has been known to settle the stomach and reduce gas and colic in infants. Coneflower (Echinacea) and Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) – Echinacea and goldenseal together can greatly enhance immune system function. Individually, species of echinacea have been used in herbal medicine against a variety of infections, such as ear infection, yeast infection, and even herpes, while goldenseal is a known astringent and antiseptic. Garlic (Allium sativum) – Aside from being an excellent ingredient in pasta dishes, garlic is a known antibiotic that functions similarly to penicillin or tetracycline. Ginger (Zingiber officinale) – Much like garlic, ginger is a favorite ingredient in many dishes, but its most notable use is in herbal medicine thanks to its powerful antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is particularly helpful with digestive issues such as nausea and upset stomach. Plantain (Musa) – Plantain leaves are used in alternative medicine to take the pain out of insect bites and stings, and even plants, such as poison ivy. Plantains are also used as natural remedies for skin problems such as eczema, boils, ulcers wounds, and burns. Shepherd’s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) – Shepherd’s purse is typically used as a remedy for menstrual cramps, heavy periods, bladder infections, kidney issues, and diarrhea. It is also a diuretic, which means it can increase the production of urine. St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) – The bright yellow flowers of this plant can be made into tea or pressed for oils and have been known as an effective antidepressant, soothing anxiety and seasonal affective disorder, as well as sleeping problems. It is also antispasmodic; it helps relax muscle spasms, and soothe menstrual cramps and spasmodic coughing. (Related: Make your own elderberry tincture and cough syrup to fight the flu.) Valerian root (Valeriana officinalis) – This herb is typically used to aid with sleeping problems, especially with children. According to Mommypotamus.com, it’s called “nature’s Valium” without the potential adverse side effects of the commercial medication used against anxiety disorders. White willow (Salix alba) – If Valerian root is nature’s Valium, the white willow herb is considered nature’s aspirin, thanks to its high salicin content, which is found in commercial aspirin that allows it to provide relief from pain and inflammation. When To Use Antibiotic in PICU and Antibiotic Stewardship

Dr Ira Shah explains to us the rational use of Antibiotics in PICU and Antibiotic Stewardship. Is the choice of antibiotics correct? What should be given in this child? SUBSCRIBE TO YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/user/pediatriconcallvideo FOLLOW US ON: https://www.facebook.com/PediatricOncall/ https://twitter.com/pediatriconcall https://plus.google.com/+Pediatriconcall/posts For the seven major classes of known antibiotics, resistance has developed within 1-4 years from the clinical introduction of the drug. Timeline of antibiotic resistance and antibiotic deployment. This is the kind of organism that we say Antibiotic resistance- Bad Bugs in ICU SUMMARY: • Multi-drug resistant pathogens are becoming more common everywhere • New antibiotics with novel mechanisms of action are not being produced • Rational use of antibiotics is required This is for the major problem in USA-Bad Bugs, No Drugs: In july 2004,IDSA sent a white paper to Capitol Hill stressing the rapidly growing public health crisis in the emergence of bacteria that were resistant to many, if not all, antibiotics that typically had activity against them. What is SB 739? • By 1/1/2008, California department of public health(CDPH) required that all general acute care hospitals -evaluate their antibiotic use -create an oversight committee to monitor responsibilities for this issue • CDPH responsible for implementing a program for the statewide surveillance and prevention of HAI in acute care Antibiotic stewardship • What is it? - Program to monitor use of antibiotics - Coordinated effort between pharmacist, microbiologist, infectious disease specialist and medical team • Minimizing consequence of antibiotic use -Toxicity -Selection of resistance -selection of virulent organisms -Clostridium dificile • Combine with comprehensive infection control to limit emergence and transmission of resistance • Reduce healthcare costs without adversely impacting care Guidelines to develop an institutional Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) • Antimicrobial stewardship committee • Computer surveillance and decision support • Proactive microbiology lab • Monitoring of process and outcomes measures Antibiotic stewardship-How? • Identify patient risk Factors: patient age, previous hospitalizations, previous antibiotics, where they live; Co-morbid conditions - cancer, organ transplantation, HIV,ESRD - risk of developing a MNR organism increases as ICU LOS increases • know the hospital antibiogram • Review previous lab results and susceptibilities • Consult with your pharmacist • Monitor drug levels when appropriate • Collaborate with an infectious disease specialist Treatment guidelines for Antimicrobials in ICU • Must be timely: do not start too late • Appropriate: • Administered at adequate dose and intervals consistent with pK/pD parameters • Escalate or de-escalate based on microbiological data • Prompt discontinuation when practical What is the important of acquired resistance-plasmid mediated • Resistance genes encoding inactivating enzymes for beta-lactam agents(including extended- spectrum beta-lactamases),macrolides, aminoglycosides, and chloramphenicol; • Efflux genes for macrolides and tetracyclines; • Altered targets for sulfonamides Tests to determine drug resistance • MIC • Disk diffusion method • Molecular tests Risk factors to develop antibiotic resistance • Use of broad spectrum antibiotics: antibiotic exposure can increases the bioburden of MDR bacteria in a patient through suppression of normal flora, allowing multiplication of the MDR bacteria. This increased bioburden makes the patient more likely to contaminate the environment, staff and other patients • Biofilm formation Rational use of antibiotics in PICU • Is it a bacterial infection ? - Fever - Temperature instability - CRP/procalcitonin • Community or hospital acquired infection(HAI)? • Site of infection? • What are likely pathogens? • Antimicrobial susceptibility Common infections in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) • Ventilator associated pneumonia • CVC related sepsis • MRSA is uncommon in PICU Venfilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) Bundle • Elevation of the head of the bed 30-45 • Use 15-30 for neonates and small infants, • Daily sedation vacations • Daily assessment of readiness to extubate • Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) prophylaxis Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase(ESBL) Risk Factors • Long hospital stay • Presence of catheters: urinary, cvcs, arterial • Abdominal surgery • Gut colonization • Jejunostomy or gastrostomy tube • Prior antibiotics • Mechanical ventilation -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Dr. Rakesh Kumar : About India's Vaccine Scenario | pediatric Oncall " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVn6k5moI2s -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

cheston cold tablet सर्दी खांसी जुकाम और उनका सही इलाज cheston cold tablet uses and how to use Your nose is running, you've got a cough, and your throat is raw. Is it a cold, allergies, or the flu? There are similarities to all three, but a few telltale signs can help you tell them apart. The Start of a Cold It usually begins with a sore throat, and before you know it, you've also got these symptoms: Runny nose (clear and watery) Sneezing Fatigue Cough You usually don't get a fever with a cold. If you do, it may be a sign you've got the flu or an infection with a bacteria. For the first few days that you're sick, your runny nose will be watery, but it turns thicker and darker after that. You may also get a mild cough that can last into the second week of your cold. Since a cold can make your asthma worse, check with your doctor to see if you need to change your regular treatment plan. Sometimes you might mistake cold symptoms for hay fever. If they begin quickly and are over in 1 to 2 weeks, chances are it's not an allergy. Allergies are caused by an overactive immune system, your defense against germs. Your body overreacts to things like dust or pollen. It then releases chemicals like histamine. This causes the passageways in your nose to swell, leading to a runny nose, coughing, and sneezing. Hay fever isn't contagious, but some people may inherit a tendency to get it. See your doctor if your cold symptoms are severe and you aren't getting better. He'll likely check your throat and ears, and listen to your lungs. He may take a throat culture by brushing your throat with a long cotton-tipped swab. This will show whether you have an infection that needs treatment with antibiotics. Call your doctor if you have: An earache Pain around the nose and eyes (sinuses) for more than a week Fever above 102 degrees F. If your child is younger than 3 months and has a temperature of 100.4 degrees F or higher, call your doctor right away. Fever that lasts more than a day in a child under 2, or more than 3 days in a child age 2 or older Cough up mucus for more than a week Shortness of breath Worsening symptoms Symptoms that last longer than 2 weeks Trouble swallowing. A sore throat for more than 5 days Pain or pressure in the chest or belly A stiff neck or sensitivity to bright lights Also see your doctor if: You are pregnant or breastfeeding and get a cold Your newborn or infant gets symptoms Your cold worsens after the third day

how to remove pimples I 6 Simple ways I

01:36
how to remove pimples I 6 Simple ways I A pimple, zit or spot is a kind of comedo and one of the many results of excess oil getting trapped in the pores. Some of the varieties are pustules or papules Pimples can be treated by various acne medications prescribed by a physician, or purchased at a pharmacy with a wide variety of treatments. Inside the pore are sebaceous glands which produce sebum. When the outer layers of skin shed (as they do continuously), the dead skin cells left behind may become "glued" together by the sebum. This causes a blockage in the pore, especially when the skin becomes thicker at puberty.[2] The sebaceous glands produce more sebum which builds up behind the blockage, and this sebum allows bacteria to grow, including the species Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes, which causes inflammation and infection. Severe acne usually indicates the necessity of prescription medication to treat the pimples. Prescription medications used to treat acne and pimples include isotretinoin, which is a retinoid. Historically, antibiotics such as tetracyclines and erythromycin were prescribed. While they were more effective than topical applications of benzoyl peroxide, the bacteria eventually grew resistant to the antibiotics and the treatments became less and less effective. Also, antibiotics had more side effects than topical applications, such as stomach cramps and severe discoloration of teeth. Common antibiotics prescribed by dermatologists include doxycycline and minocycline.[6] For more severe cases of acne dermatologists might recommend accutane, a retinoid that is the most potent of acne treatments. However, accutane can cause various side effects including vomiting, diarrhea, and birth defects if taken during pregnancy.
