Japanese love tub baths and we enjoy onsen (hotspring) quite often. If I'm at home all day, I'll take tub baths at least 5 times per day. By the way, every time I pronounce "bath", people think I'm saying "bus", but I don't love taking the bus. Anyway, by tub baths: - Relax muscle and mind - Improve blood circulation - Reduce fatigue - Strengthen the immune system It's funny that my boyfriend got this spa before he met me. He wanted to have a Japanese girlfriend long time and he knew that Japanese love bathing, so he made the tub even though he didn't have a Japanese girlfriend at that time! I do some stretches in the bath, because It's easier to stretch in hot water as your muscles are more flexible. After the hot bath, I take a cold bath. It's so cold especially after the hot bath. But by repeating hot and cold water baths several times, you can actually lose weight! I'm doing crazy here but have to something because it's too cold. There are 2 kinds of fat cells. Brown fat cells burn calories. White fat cells store calories. By alternating hot and cold, your brown fat cells are trained to work harder, resulting in burning more calories. MMA Fighters will do pretty much anything to gain a competitive advantage and they put their bodies through some brutal methods to do so. They manipulate their bodies days before the fight in order to weigh in at a much lower weight than they normally walk around at, to gain most of it back before entering the ring to try and slap the heads of each other. This is the fight before the fight and can break any fighter both mentally and physically while potentially mess up inner organs and cause serious damage if taken too far. So the average adult body actually consists of about 60 % water which is something the fighters use to their advantage when cutting weight. It’s that fluid they want to squeeze out and they dehydrate themselves to lose most of the weight. They are usually already in great shape and have low body fat percentages so they won’t really burn much fat of in the weight cutting process. It’s not calories in calories out here but more about manipulating your water and sodium levels and put your body in overdrive to flush that weight off. So to start of the weight cut on day 5, they will drink a shitload of water, and a shitload equals at least 2 gallons or 8 liters of water. Drinking a lot more water than usual will not necessarily make you gain weight but will put your body into overdrive and trigger it to excrete and flush out more water than you take in and you might actually burn some extra calories from bouncing to the bathroom about 20 times a day. They also cut their carbs out completely which means they only eat foods with proteins and fats along with their water. A popular diet is the ketogenic diet which also manipulates your body similarly to the water loading. So they hold carbs extremely low or skip it completely, eat about 70 % of their caloric intake in fat and the rest in protein and this diet is pretty easy to adhere to and is something they follow even when they don’t need to cut. When there is no carbs in the body, there is no glycogen or blood sugar to get energy from and the body instead turns to fat for energy which is super effective if you want to get ripped. Another huge benefit with this kind of diet is that 1 gram of carb pulls 2.7 grams of water, and getting rid of carbs will essentially flush even more water out. Ross Edgeley may become everyone’s new best friend after he recently demonstrated that gaining weight doesn’t have everything to do with fat. The 28-year-old sport scientist and writer did an experiment to prove that “your nutrition and self esteem shouldn’t be governed by the weighing scales if you’re on a diet. So many people are slaves to the scales and have their self-esteem and nutrition governed by them. I hope this experiment will create a healthier relationship between people and the weighing scales and people will realize weight can fluctuate based on many factors, not just fat”. The scientist’s extreme experiment had him trying to lose 14 kilograms in no more than 24 hours. Keep in mind that this was a dangerous experiment that was done under the doctors’ strict supervision, so DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. Edgeley’s main goal was that of losing as much water as possible. “As much as 50 per cent to 70 per cent of our body weight is made up of water. So weighing 95kg that means in theory 47.5kg of my body is water weight. Cutting too much water could be fatal since it’s needed for your vital organs to function and even maintain a healthy blood volume, but cutting a lot of water from the body through sweat suits, diuretics and not drinking any that day would dramatically reduce my weight”, he explains. To force the water out of his system, he began his 24-hour experiment by taking a very hot bath with Epsom salt baths. He drank a bit of water spiced with diuretics (vitamin C, dandelion root, caffeine), he didn’t include carbs nor salt in his diet (salt is known to retain water), he took saunas and went to the gym. By doing that, he managed to lose the 12 kilograms and feel a little light-headed as a result. Since the lost weight was just water, he put it back in just a couple of hours after he had reached his target.

So now let's explore the main differences: A Dry Sauna: - is typically at a humidity level of 5-30% - runs hotter than a steam room, between 70-100 degrees celsius - promotes sweating, as the dry environment allows sweat to evaporate from the skin, promoting more sweating and more removal of toxins through the skin - can be a difficult environment for some people to breathe in, such as those with asthma - Can be used for extended periods to further promote a "detoxification" process, as long as fluids and electrolytes are replenished both during, and after A Steam Room: - operates at 100% humidity - feels hotter, even though it operates at a lower temperature compared to a sauna (around 40 degrees celsius) - is very beneficial for those with breathing and or congestion issues, as the wet heat opens airways and mucous membranes - can be very hydrating for the skin Why does it feel hotter? Because the environment stays moist (100% humidity) the sweat doesn't evaporate from your skin. This creates a situation where your body could overheat if exposed to this environment for a prolonged time. It is the act of sweat evaporating from your skin that allows the body to regulate it's own temperature. That is why it is recommended to keep your steam room session to 10-15 minutes. What will steam rooms and saunas NOT do? They won't help you lose weight. While an extended session in a sauna will help you lose a few pounds, it will be in water weight (sweat). The verdict? Both have health benefits, and both have cautions to be aware of. If you have any kind of breathing/congestion issue, a steam room is probably best. If you are looking for more of a "detox" process for a longer (and hotter) period, then a sauna may be a better choice. At the end of the day, it's best to listen to your body. Try them both, and use what you like/feel is best for you! Recovery Afterwards: Drink lots of water and herbal tea to replace fluids lost through sweat. Electrolytes will need to be replaced. Fruit is a great choice. If doing an extended sauna session, weigh yourself before and after, and drink an additional litre of water for every pound of bodyweight lost. Make sure you spend some time stretching and hold the stretches for a minimum of 10 minute. Eat healthy, nourishing foods. Avoid high-fat (deep fried) and processed foods, as well as caffeine and alcohol, that will dehydrate you quickly. The second reason why this is very impractical is because you can only do so much in 24 hours to look great for the next day. After all people spend their whole lives getting into great shape, while you're trying to get it done by tomorrow. Nevertheless I do sympathize with someone looking to lose weight overnight because sometimes you will be caught off guard with an unexpected invitation to the beach or to a pool party or to something you just weren't expecting to have to look great for. So let's jump right in. #1 The area that you're going to be able to improve the most within one day in relation to your appearance is going to be your water weight. Within one day you can eat all the wrong things and get really bloated or there are also things you can do within a day to really turn water weight and bloating down. To have results overnight you will have to make sure that you eat perfectly to not add anymore water weight under your skin. Many of you may be like what the heck is a fat loss weight training workout. A fat loss weight training workout is set up in circuits. You're going to start with a lower body weight training exercise like barbell squats or weighted lunges and then follow up with a cardio vascular exercise like burpees or mountain climbers. The do another weight training exercise like Barbell clean and presses and follow up with another cardio vascular exercise like high knees. Take 4-6 of these exercises depending on how fit you are and perform them back to back with no break in between. Take a 2-3 minute break at the end and repeat for 4-5 sets. If you really want to challenge yourself and lose even more water weight and fat you can stay and do 30-45 minutes of steady state cardio directly after this workout. If you do all these things again that's eat a natural low carb, low sodium diet, sweat out water weight in a sauna or Epsom salt bath, start your day with cardio before breakfast, and do a fat loss weight training workout later on you're going to get the best results that you can get within a day. By creating a supposed toxin problem, detox marketers have capitalized on fear and ignorance, and have made and continue to make millions upon millions of dollars doing so. It is important to understand that basically anything can be toxic; Have you ever actually asked yourself, "does your body need help with detoxification to begin with." I mean you have to ask because this whole detox thing is a relatively new phenomenon. Your body is already very good at detoxifying your system on its own. You're body has natural ways to deal with toxins by itself can be summed up with the 4 p's peeing - You're kidneys will flush waste out of your system. Make sure you drink enough water and try to stay hydrated enough to keep your pee looking almost transparent. If you take vitamins your pee may look a little more yellow. pooping - Eat more fiber and drink more water to encourage more bowel movements. Eat beans and you'll be well on your way to detoxifying your system probably better than apple cider vinegar can. Perspiring - You're skin is the single largest organ of elimination. This is why I tell people you have to sweat. You're pores are most open to detoxing when you exercise and work up a sweat regularly. If you're too lazy to exercise you're in luck there are some alternatives. Using a sauna, steam room, or taking an Epsom salt bath will help you sweat and detoxify. Keep in mind though that when you exercise you end up getting many other benefits than just sweating Pranayama - People that are into yoga would explain this as regulating your breath. This is essentially deep breathing, Pranayama is a practice where you consciously try to take deeper breaths where you try to breathe deep into your belly. Now sitting there taking deep breaths may not be the best way to detoxify using your lungs. I promise you that if you do some intense exercising you won't be breathing like short shallow breaths, you're going to be breathing really really deep. Exercise is known to improve the power of your lungs.

A good night’s sleep recharges your system, lowers stress levels, promotes weight loss, and even makes you live longer. Some popular pre-bed habits most of us have can deprive you of all that. If you want to fall asleep easily and get enough of healthy sleep every night, you have to follow some simple but very effective rules. Even though we tend to think that working up a good sweat at the gym will only help us fall asleep faster, that’s not always the case. The trick here is to finish your workout 3-4 or even 6 hours before you go to bed. You can have some water in the evenings, you just need to experiment and find your perfect amount. The National Sleep Foundation states that, in general, most people sleep well through the night after just an 8 oz glass of water before bed. Try to limit naps to 20 minutes because longer naps require you to wake up from a deeper sleep. As a result, they'll only make you feel groggy afterwards instead of refreshed. Working late increases the chances of you spending the next few hours lying in bed thinking about all your tasks. Instead, clear your mind, create a plan for tomorrow, and write it down. You won't be at your best if don't get proper sleep, so put everything away and relax. Be extremely careful with pills, especially prescription meds, since they can have all kinds of effects on your sleep. Some cause drowsiness while others can make you super alert. This is especially true of antidepressants. Painkillers also don’t contribute to healthy sleep, so use precaution when taking them before bed. Many people think that a hot bath contributes to good sleep, but that's just one more popular myth. Exercise plays a far smaller part in your muscle and fat. Run on a treadmill for 30 minutes and you will burn off about 250 calories. Reward yourself a Snickers bar which is 280 calories, not only is all your hard work undone but you have actually gained an additional 30 calories. Of course exercise is beneficial for numerous reasons but if your goal is to lose fat then concentrate on what you put in your mouth and not what you do at the gym.
