Fail-Safe Type B-52 Alerts: "Operation Headstart" 1959 US Air Force Strategic Air Command 14min

more at http://scitech.quickfound.net/aviation_news_and_search.html 'From U.S. Air Force index card: "Covers activities of ground and flight crews during a three-month test conducted at Loring Air Force Base, Maine, to demonstrate conclusively that an airborne alert force can be maintained successfully."' US Air Force Film FR-33 Public domain film slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Headstart Operation Head Start was a program by the United States Air Force where bombers were launched from Loring Air Force Base and loitered off of the coast of western Greenland and eastern Canada. It was operational from mid-September 1958 to mid-December of that same year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Chrome_Dome Operation Chrome Dome, initiated in 1960, was one of several United States Air Force Cold-War era airborne global alert duties or programs in which B-52 Stratofortress strategic bomber aircraft armed with thermonuclear weapons were assigned targets in the Soviet Union on schedules guaranteeing that a substantial number of them were flying and fueled for their missions at any given time. Background During the Cold War, B-52s performed airborne alert duty under code names such as Head Start, Chrome Dome, Hard Head, Round Robin, and Operation Giant Lance. Bombers loitered near points outside the Soviet Union to provide rapid first strike or retaliation capability in case of nuclear war. Primary mission A B-52D would leave Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas and fly across the United States to New England and head out to the Atlantic Ocean. The B-52 would refuel over the Atlantic heading north to and around Newfoundland. The bomber would change course and fly northwesterly over Baffin Bay towards Thule Air Base, Greenland. At this point it would fly west across Queen Elizabeth Islands of Canada. Continuing to Alaska, it would refuel over the Pacific Ocean again heading south-east and return to Sheppard AFB... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Thule_Air_Base_B-52_crash The 1968 Thule Air Base B-52 crash, Thule affair or Thule accident was an accident on January 21, 1968, involving a United States Air Force (USAF) B-52 bomber. The aircraft was carrying four hydrogen bombs on a Cold War "Chrome Dome" alert mission over Baffin Bay when a cabin fire forced the crew to abandon the aircraft before they could carry out an emergency landing at Thule Air Base. Six crew members ejected safely, but one who did not have an ejection seat was killed while trying to bail out. The bomber crashed onto sea ice in North Star Bay, Greenland, causing the nuclear payload to rupture and disperse, which resulted in widespread radioactive contamination. The United States and Denmark launched an intensive clean-up and recovery operation, but the secondary of one of the nuclear weapons could not be accounted for after the operation completed. USAF Strategic Air Command "Chrome Dome" operations were discontinued immediately after the incident, which highlighted the safety and political risks of the missions. Safety procedures were reviewed and more stable explosives were developed for use in nuclear weapons. In 1995, a political scandal resulted in Denmark after a report revealed the government had given tacit permission for nuclear weapons to be located in Greenland, in contravention of Denmark's 1957 nuclear-free zone policy. Workers involved in the clean-up program have been campaigning for compensation for radiation-related illnesses they experienced in the years after the incident. In March 2009, Time identified the accident as one of the world's worst nuclear disasters... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Giant_Lance Operation Giant Lance was a secret military operation by the United States that threatened a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union during the Cold War. On October 10, 1969, U.S. President Richard Nixon under the advisement of Henry Kissinger issued the order. Preparations were made to send a squadron of 18 B-52s of the 92d Strategic Aerospace Wing loaded with nuclear weapons to race toward the Soviet Union. It was hoped that this would convince the Soviets that Nixon was willing to resort to nuclear war in order to win the Vietnam War. The squadron took off on October 27 and flew towards the Soviet Union. Actions were designed to be detectable by the Soviets. Nixon cancelled the operation on October 30. The plan was part of Nixon's Madman theory, a concept based on game theory, and its details remained unknown to the public until Freedom of Information Act requests in the 2000s (decade) revealed documents about the operation...

Strategy Development Simplified: What Is Strategy & How To Develop One? ✓

✅Join me and 5,000 others at LIG so I can show you how you can transform your career. Registrations are now open again; https://goo.gl/Z95zVB Watch next: One Simple Talk That May Change Your Career and Life: https://youtu.be/R-PAfs_4un8 In this month's episode, I teach you various layers of strategy and how to use strategy tools. What I’d like to do in about 45 minutes to an hour is to give you a sense of what strategy is, what tools we use to develop strategy, and then teach you how to apply these corporate level tools to our day to day lives through developing strategic thinking abilities. So if you take this mini-course, by the end of it, you’ll very clearly learn what strategy is and its various levels such corporate strategy, business strategy, and functional strategies. You will no longer confuse it with tasks or goals, then you will learn about Strategy Canvas with value curves. It’s a tool that will help you see the bigger picture, help you with the positioning of your offerings and hence develop strategies to become… unique. And while I am teaching you these, I’ll run so many case studies to make it crystal clear for you. Then finally, the second half of the video will be the most useful part to you. Because in reality, you are probably not the strategy manager or the CEO of a large multinational company, you are probably not Coca Cola’s Chairman, so what I did at the 2nd half of the video is to customize strategy development so it can be applicable to your day to day lives. You will learn how to develop a strategic thinking that will apply to your work, apply to your family life, your school, in simple terms; your life. You’ll be a smarter person, because you’ll be more strategic in your thinking, you’ll have more success because you’ll be able to identify more opportunities, you’ll fail less because you’ll be able to identify risks even before they become apparent. And I’ll try my best to do the impossible and cover everything under 1 hour and make it super easy to understand. I’ll try but let’s see if I’ll succeed. So, what is strategy; Strategy is a word that gets used a lot and often in a wrong context. Most people confuse it with goals. Essentially, strategy is a roadmap to how we are going to win. Where you are is your “as-is” state, and where you want to go is your “to-be” state. How you are going to bridge that gap is your strategy. So, if I was to teach strategy to my children I’d say, you wanna reach the finish line first. You may walk straight to the finish line at 5 kms per hour, Or you may extend your route, take more time as you have to travel more distance, but collect the speed boost on the way so you go faster at the end at around 20 km per hour. Collecting that speed boost to win would be your strategy. now let’s get back to the adult world, in business, we have 3 major layers of strategy; We have Corporate Strategy We have Business Strategy And we have Functional strategy So, let’s start with corporate strategy;

How to Create an Action Plan in 5 Steps

03:59
More great content at http://www.authenticeducation.com.au/blog I regularly get asked by people in our community, "how do I put an action plan around a goal I want to achieve in my life?". The funny thing is, action plans are quite a simple thing to create. Step 1 - What do you actually want to create? You need to get clarity on your desired outcome by asking yourself this question. For example, you want to get your body fat down to 12% and look trim, tone and terrific. Step 2 - Create a timeline Get a piece of paper. On the left hand side write the letter A, on the right hand side write the letter B. Then simply draw a line from A to B. Now that you have this piece of paper with A on one side and B on the other, you are ready to start creating your timeline which will eventually become your action plan. Step 3 - Brain dump Brainstorm and write down every single action you think you might need to take in order to achieve your goal. In the 12% body fat example, this might be change my diet, go to the gym, do some sit-ups, drink more water, consult people I know who have an incredible physique that might want to share strategies on how to do that. Step 4 - Order the list Look down the list while looking for any things that are similar. This is to shorten the list down to the smallest number of actions you need to take to ensure you get your goal. Now you may be left with 6-8 steps. Step 5 - First essential step Ask yourself "what is the very first essential step that I need to take in order to move towards my outcome?". Once you know that first step, place it right next to the 'A' that you drew and that becomes the first step in your action plan. Ask yourself that question again. Place that answer next in the timeline. Pretty soon you have a full timeline going from A to B with every single step required in the correct order. Now you have an action plan. Action your action plan! The problem with action plans is you need to take actions to create one! So, if you haven't created an action plan before, my very first action for you is to create one now. I look forward to seeing you in action, achieving your dreams and living an inspired life. Until we meet again, share your life live your love and do whatever it takes to be your own best friend. I'll see you soon. Take some actions.

Youth and Family Services - South Dakota Reaps the Benefits of Document Management Software

02:55
Youth and Family Services, Rapid City, South Dakota has served children and families for 50 years. Operatvarious programs including 1) Girls Incorporated of Rapid City, providing after school services, 2)YFS Counseling Center, providing assessment, prevention and mental health counseling services, 3)YFS Child Development Center, providing licensed, quality, affordable childcare for children 4 weeks - 14 years, 4)YFS Nutrition Services, providing meals for children in our facilities and enrolled Family Child Care Homes in western SD, 5)Head Start and Early Head Start programs in 7 counties, 6)YFS Western Prevention Resource Center, providing drug and alcohol prevention resources and services, 7)Fatherhood First program, providing fatherhood education and case management. Our purpose and primary strategy for paperless and going green strategic plan was to use it as an archiving file system. We have several federal grants which require significant documentation on the children and families we serve. In addition, we have a large donor base and keep significant documentation on gifts and communication with the donors. All of our programs are utilizing efilecabinets to eliminate files and paper documentation. Our Human Resources Department uses different cabinets to retain original paperwork needed for personnel files. The Finance Department tracks all purchase order and vendor invoices thru efilecabinets. This system actually uses different cabinets, to create a process of combining approved purchase orders (using outlook) with invoices, approving the batches being processed, and after payment ending them archived in vendor drawers. The Finance Department also approves journal entries using efilecabinets, so that no paper printed is printed, but approval documentation is combined with the journal entries and is archived. We use comments to approve these documents. We use secure drawer for information for our Board or Directors and for auditors/reviewers. We also use secure drawer for planning with an outside agency, such as auditors. We have eliminated approximately 60 4-drawer file cabinets. This was essential as we were trying to create new office space for personnel and the elimination of file cabinets provided the space. We should be eliminating approximately an additional 60 4-drawer file when our child files can be destroyed. Due to the cost of scanning we have chosen to go backwards for financial and agency documentation, but go forwards for child files. This again will provide additional space that can be utilized by children or staff. The savings of paper has been substantial, as more and more we only print paperwork that require an outside of the agency signature or for children's activities. This type of savings is essential for an agency that is always asking for donations. It has helped us keep our administrative costs below 12%. By having a archiving system that allows information to be at your fingertips, we can allow more dollars to used directly for the children we serve as staff time is not needed to pull documentation. An example was at our Girls Inc. facility, due to the space restrictions all of our child files being down the hall, it was very time consuming to look at child documentation, such as a child release form. We are able to look at a data system for the details, but many times they were required to see the original document or prove documentation, such as a child release form. The same was true for the HR Department where we needed to look at an original document to verify some information and the files were spread across the building, thus wasting time. One last savings was the time it takes to be audited or reviewed. As we receive federal funding we are audited many times by many different federal and state agencies, (HHS, DOT, CANNS, DADA, Child Care Assistance, etc.), as well as our annual financial and retirement audit. By having the combination of efilecabinets and secure drawer, we can provide information to the auditors easily and in some cases the reviewers can be remote. This saves us time pulling and refiling the information, as well as, hauling large files from one site to the site the auditors are housed in. We also have surprise audits and it is so comforting to know how easily you can put information at their fingertips. We have been very pleased with efilecabinets and secure drawer. To decide on a software system and eliminate paper which for the older generation is extremely hard, can be traumatic. People can be crabby and opinionated. We have had a very successful, easy implementation of efilecabinets. Staff after using the efilecabinets have been very pleased. It is not complicated and staff can easily search or index. This allows the older generation and the younger generation to agree, as they can both utilize it the way they are most comfortable.

"Why should I hire you?" - Best Interview Questions and Answers

03:29
WHY SHOULD I HIRE YOU is often the last question you will be asked in an interview. Prepare for it. This is your chance to restate the skills you possess that are most relevant to the position and to summarize your other qualities that make you the perfect person for the job, and that's why they should hire you. Outline your answer before you go in, so that you can answer clearly, concisely, and with confidence. Your answer should be short and to the point. It should reflect your professional background as it relates to current needs and problems of the position. Review the job description and tell how you are the right person for the job by matching up your skill set with each bullet point of the job description. In formulating your answer as to why they should hire you, be sure to address these areas: 1. Determine their goals for the position. This should come up during your research into the company and the position. If possible, talk to others who work for the company. If you are unclear on this point, include it in the questions you ask at the interview and be prepared to incorporate it into your answer. 2. Show you have the skills needed for the job. Based on the goals you have identified in step one, determine how your skills and experience support those goals. If necessary, refer back to your list of skills. Early Start - Prof. Paul Chandler, Dean, Faculty of Education

01:40
The Federal Government today announced funding for a strategic teaching, research and community engagement initiative which, in a world first collaborative scheme, will deliver a new generation of graduates to work with young children aged from 0-12. The $44 million Early Start inter-disciplinary project, to be based in the Faculty of Education at the University of Wollongong (UOW), will receive $31 million in funding through the Federal Government's Education Investment Fund (EIF). The remaining funding is coming from a philanthropic gift of $7 million from a private donor -- representing the biggest single donation ever made to UOW with the University providing the balance. The donation has come from the Founder and Director of the Abbott Foundation, Mr Christopher Abbott, AM. In a supporting submission to the government for the project, Mr Abbott said that he has a "strong philosophical belief in the importance of encouraging children to develop an interest in learning at a very young age". He created the Abbott Foundation in 2009 with the express purpose of supporting ventures that provide learning opportunities for young children which will promote their interest and capabilities for further education. UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings described the government's decision as "fantastic news" as the project will radically transform educational, health and social outcomes for children in regional, rural and remote communities. Early Start will respond directly on the early years of life and the social and economic value of providing resources to disadvantaged children, their families and capacity build communities. "Early Start is the only concrete long term and sustainable proposal that can systemically break the cycle of educational disadvantage," Professor Wellings said. Professor Wellings paid special tribute to the Federal Government and its EIF Board for their recognition of the importance of this overall project and to Mr Abbott for his donation and support for the project. One Brooklyn-- Unveiling of Early Childhood Development Task Force Report

23:22
Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams and State Senator Daniel Squadron unveiled a report authored by their Early Childhood Development Task Force that showcases statistical evidence for a greater financial investment in early childhood development, in particular on growth between ages birth and three years. According to the New York City Department of City Planning (DCP), it was estimated that there were 161,571 children ages birth to three years in Brooklyn as of 2010. Standing with toddlers and teachers at Magical Years Early Childhood Development Center in Sunset Park, a nationally-accredited child care facility providing full-day, year-round support for families, they detailed the importance of early life intervention on school readiness, emotional and social development, family health, economic growth, and public safety. Borough President Adams and State Senator Squadron’s report, which can be accessed online at brooklyn-usa.org, emphasizes the importance of a child’s earliest days in their brain development, which can have direct impacts on their life through adulthood. Social and emotional interactions are also critical, with negative exposure creating a greater risk for cognitive impairment as well as adult conditions such as cardiovascular disease, depression, and obesity. Early childhood development programs such as center-based quality child care, Head Start, and early intervention have shown positive outcomes for children and their families. In addition, maternal, infant, and early childhood home visiting also provide expectant and new parents with the tools they need to care for and educate them. The task force’s report reviewed the effectiveness of four research-based home visiting programs operating in New York State, including Healthy Families New York (HFNY), Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP), Parents-as-Teachers (PAT), and The Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP). Overall, findings concluded that children engaged in early childhood development services show a reduction in language delays, increased readiness for pre-k and kindergarten, and increased test scores in grade school; conversely, at-risk youth without high-quality early childhood experiences are more likely to drop out of school and become teenage parents, while also less likely to attend college. Early childhood development programs were also linked to a decreased involvement in the criminal justice system and to significant increases in a mother’s employment rate and income. The Early Childhood Development Task Force, co-chaired by Borough President Adams and State Senator Squadron, made up of evidence-based practitioners as well as advocates, community stakeholders, and local hospitals, was formed in September 2015 with a focus on policies that address family risk factors for adversity that can impair early childhood development, such as illiteracy, mental illness, and poverty. In addition to NFP and PCHP, task force members include Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration; Council for a Strong America; New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS); New York Center for Child Development; New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH); New York University Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development; NYU Lutheran; The Brooklyn Hospital Center; SCO Family of Services, and University Settlement. Borough President Adams and State Senator Squadron’s task force released a series of recommendations as a result of their work. They called for increased support for evidence-based early childhood development programs, including funding increases recommended by the New York State Senate Democratic Policy Group as well as strategic partnerships with the New York City Children’s Cabinet to coordinate and integrate services in order to provide a continuum of care. Their report recommended expanding access to evidence-based early childhood development programs by empowering communities through increased information. To achieve this, the task force has committed to create and disseminate a resource guide of early childhood services available in Brooklyn; additionally, they suggested the City and State create online maps providing data on early childhood programs, including seat availability. Finally, the Early Childhood Development Task Force advocated for partnerships with community-based organizations and networks to increase awareness about the importance of early childhood programs and services. Borough President Adams and State Senator Squadron will convene a workshop specifically for Brooklyn clergy members to engage and educate leaders so they may circulate information throughout their congregations. Additionally, they encouraged the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) to create lending institutions for books, educational materials, puzzles, and toys for early childhood development programs.
