This is where the Gonstead Technique is the difference that changes lives. The most common comment after the initial exam and consultation is "I have never had such a thorough exam!". We don't mess around with your health and everything we do is uniqueto you and your history. Your health is NOT just another case to us. We examine your history and study films taken of your spine to decide the course of action (unique to you) needed to get you out of pain quickly. We take the time to measure the nerve compression with a scope and manually palpate the spineous process to reveal tenderness or swelling in the spinal joints. We adjust the spine accurately and precisely to move the joint and decompress the nerve allowing healing to begin within your body. We educate you how to change your lifestyle so that you can continue on the path of living well and being well. Chiropractic is Safe, Effective and Economical At Hackbart Chiropractic we are driven to provide THE BEST chiropractic care by utilizing the Gonstead Technique. Precise and effective adjusting eliminates nerve pressure on the spinal cord. Nerves that affect posture, muscles, back, neck, limbs....as well as, breathing, digestion and immunity. We have patient testimonials ranging from help with back/neck pain, shoulder/hip problems, carpal tunnel and bunions to relief from allergies, fibromyalgia, ear infections, ulcers, headaches and even fertility issues. The nervous system is an amazing machine and it's source of information is wrapped up within the spinal cord which runs along your spinal column. We are hard on our bodies and sometimes something as small as a sneeze can throw your spine out of joint or flare up an old injury that has gone unnoticed until pressure on the nerve sends a shooting pain down the arm. Small things can trigger nerve interference in a way that can effect every day life as every organ, muscle and nerve originates within the spinal cord. We focus on health through a well functioning nervous system by aligning your spine properly and helping it stay in alignment if you so choose through maintenance care. Relieving pressure on nerves can produce amazing results in many people leading to living well and being well. When your body is functioning properly you get sick less, have fewer injuries, decreased use of medication and possible surgeries and as a result many of our patients have experienced fewer medical bills and expenses. Chiropractic is not just about back pain....it's about total well-being and finding hope, healing and health in the bodies own God-given power to heal. Stop in and find out more! We are willing to discuss any of your concerns or issues you may have concerning chiropractic and your journey to health.

Alpha-gal Syndrome: What Is the Incurable Meat Allergy Spread by Ticks?

05:52
For many Americans, the warmer summer months mean heading outdoors to hike, fish and fire up the barbecue. But experts warn that in some parts of the country this means risking coming into contact with a tick that can cause an incurable meat allergy. The culprit is the lone star tick, which can cause alpha-gal syndrome with a single bite. The condition is named after the molecule galactose-alpha-1, 3-galactose, which is found in mammals like cows and pigs and spreads when the bug bites an animal and then tucks into a human, mixing their blood. The exact number of Americans with the meat allergy is unknown. However, the condition is not uncommon, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI).The bug is found predominantly across the Southeast, from Texas to Iowa and into New England, according to ACAAI. And thanks to the warmer climate, experts believe that the tick could be spreading further north. Alpha-gal can also trigger stomach problems such as cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, as well as sneezing, headaches, and asthma. And unlike other allergies where symptoms occur immediately,  an alpha-gal reaction can take hours to appear. Medics can diagnose the syndrome with a blood test. There is no known cure for alpha-gal syndrome, and the effects need to be managed with lifestyle changes such as avoiding meat, taking medicines such as antihistamines and corticosteroids and injecting epinephrine to reverse severe reactions.Madison Berryhill from Oklahoma City is among those to encounter the lone star tick. She told News9.com that as she spent a lot of time outdoors she was unfazed by tick bites. But she knew something was up when her hands and feet started itching, turning red and breaking out in hives. After eating a steak, her hives were so severe that she had to visit ER. An allergist was later able to diagnose her with alpha-gal syndrome.Dr. Lacy Anderson, MD told News9.com that some people with alpha-gal are forced to carry antihistamines in case they have an allergic reaction to meat.“It’s typically not the type of allergy that would close off the throat, but it’s enough to scare you and make you miserable,” she said.Ticks are most common between April and September. They lurk in wooded and brushy areas with high grass, which therefore should be avoi

11 Most Deadly Things in America

06:02
Don't get too comfortable when there are killer bees with lethal stings and terrifying venomous spiders lurking in your home! Subscribe to American Eye http://goo.gl/GBphkv 7. The USA and Australia have the most sharks infested waters in the world. The United States is the shark attack capital of the world accounting for almost half of the reported attacks globally. All of the “big three” shark species can be found off the coast of North America; the great white, tiger shark and bull shark are all native to the waters there and have all made some lethal attacks. Texas and North and Carolina on the list of deadly shark attacks and if you include Hawaii in the North American figures, then this has a high number of attacks which are all attributed to tiger sharks. 6. The most deadly snakes in North America are called “pit vipers” which are the rattlesnake, copperhead, and cottonmouth. The western diamondback is the most fatal of the rattlesnakes it is liable for a great amount of snakebites in the US. It is a very hostile snake that will attack soon after shaking its rattle. Ignore the sound and you will be sorry. The cottonmouth is mostly found near lakes and streams. Although presumed to be ill-tempered, the snake prefers to run away if threatened or to resort to threat displays of threatening behavior or discharge a foul-smelling odor. The copperhead can be found in forests and has its threatening reaction. It will stay still and “freeze” when it feels threatened instead of gliding away. Regrettably, most people don’t do not notice when the snake does this and accidently step on it, which inevitably results in a snake bite. 5. From 2001 to 2007, twelve people were killed by American alligators, three of which were located in Florida and only just hours apart. The American alligator is close to extinction and flourishes in the lakes and swamps of the southeastern United States. The alligator is an incredibly powerful swimmer but enjoys going on land to relax in the sun. Sometimes the alligator can even be found up in trees! It is a cunning and opportunistic predator and will eat just about anything even humans. 4. “Killer bees” are called killer for an excellent reason. Why? Because the bees can be very defensive and very aggressive. If they believe that there is even the slightest danger to their hive, for instance, the noise coming from a vehicle, they will attack in swarms by chasing the menace for a quarter of a mile (or half a kilometer) and will remain agitated for approximately 24 hours after the threat has vanished. They also will hold grudges. Their venom from one stinger is not that potent, but since the whole swarm will sting you, you can expect severe pain, numbness, and swelling. You could die if you have an allergy to bee venom. Forty to fifty people die every year from allergic reactions to the stings of killer bees, which have grown in population in the United States. 3. You can find the Arizona bark scorpion in the Sonora desert in the state of Arizona. The scorpion is only about 3 inches long, and it is dreaded and feared for good reason. The venom causes severe pain, partial paralysis, and breathing problems it is the most venomous scorpion in North America. The scorpion can be found in homes since because it does not burrow, every year thousands of people in Arizona are believed to be stung by this Scorpion. Luckily, the people who are hurt rarely die but those who do are usually children, the elderly and individuals who are ill. 2. The brown recluse spider is a venomous spider that is commonly found in the southern United States. The spider will spin erratically shaped webs, but can also be found inside cold, tight spaces. This is where we commonly encounter them and get bitten. The bite of a brown recluse is not painful in the beginning; it can take as little as 2 to 8 hours before it will become painful, irritating, and itchy. The bite can also cause harm to the skin around the bite and deteriorate. In worst cases damage will be done to a person’s muscles and blood vessels. 1. The Center of Disease Control releases national statistics every year regards to the leading causes of death in America and anyone who has gotten the flu or pneumonia has felt like death. There is reason that your doctor stresses to you every year that you should get a flu shot because the virus can kill you and others that you expose. In 2014, the CDC reported that 55,227 died from flu and pneumonia. Complications of the viruses can include bacterial pneumonia, sinus infections, dehydration, ear infections and worsening of chronic medical conditions, like heart failure, diabetes, and asthma. The best way to help prevent yourself from getting the virus is to get a vaccine every year.

Hotze, M.D. and founder of the Hotze Health & Wellness Center, compares and contrast having a cold versus having allergies and how to tell the difference between the two. Mold & Allergies After Hurricane Harvey

38:26
Particularly for those who endured flooding throughout their homes, mold will grow in hundreds of thousands of houses across Southeast Texas. Mold grows in your house and gives off spores that will be inhaled, and for those of you with allergy problems, it will exacerbate that problem even more. Pollen can be carried hundreds and hundreds of miles, and on top of your normal seasonal allergies, the effects will be compounded because of Hurricane Harvey. The allergy load on your immune system will increase massively. If you are in a flooded home, you cannot wait to salvage your home: Mold spreads. It gets behind and within the walls, in the air filters, everywhere. And, of course, there's a massive increase in overall stress that all of of this destruction and devastation has caused victims and families of victims all throughout Texas and Louisiana. Vitamin C and Magnesium are two examples of vitamins and minerals you can increase taking to strengthen your immune system. Heart Attacks: Women Faring Better

Compared with men their age, young and middle-aged women tend to have higher mortality and complication rates after a heart attack. However, the gap today is not as bad as it once was, possibly due to recent pushes to increase awareness of heart disease and heart attacks in women. It's fall and, for many, that means allergies

00:58
KFDM News - September 22 was the first official day of fall, and that fact combined with the recent rains means one thing for many Southeast Texans: Allergies.Sinus headaches, sneezing and stuffy noses. You can probably blame fall allergies for a lot of those symptoms. For example, ragweed is the most common one. Doctors say the rain usually washes away a lot of the ragweed, but it brings in another problem -- mold. It sticks around with humidity and once the ragweed comes back, it gives people who suffer from allergies a double dose of suffering.Doctors recommend over the counter antihistamines and nasal sprays.Typically, the peak of the fall allergy season in Texas comes in early October. By December, cedar is back in the area. Then, trees start to pollinate in February.

Choosing a hospital for children

01:17
Choosing a hospital for your children could be the most important decision you ever make. Brian Berman, M.D., pediatrician-in-chief for Beaumont Children's Hospital near Detroit recognizes, "Parents want and deserve the best for their children, even beyond what they want for themselves." Dr. Berman believes the technology available at a children's hospital is important, but perhaps just as important is seeking out a hospital that takes a "family-centric approach to medicine." He encourages parents to look for an environment that is supportive, comforting, empathetic and compassionate where all staff members are driven by the desire to do what is best for the care of the patient. Beaumont Children's Hospital provides comprehensive services for children from specialized care for premature babies through an entire range of pediatric subspecialty services. Beaumont's Pediatric care includes immunizations and well-child care, allergy care, surgery, treatment for children with learning disabilities, heart disease, blood disorders, cancer, gastrointestinal disorders, asthma, diabetes, genetic disorders, infections and emergency care. Beaumont is an associate member of the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions and the only Children's Miracle Network Hospitals affiliate in Southeast Michigan. Jamison Talalay Latex Bed I Best mattress for muscle tension back pain and neck pain

02:34
Talalay Latex Pressure relieving comfort We use only Talalay Latex, which is the finest in the world. Features exceptional durability, supportive, breathable, and uniquely healthy. It is ideal for allergy sufferers, naturally hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant, for the non-disturbing healthy night's sleep. Talalay Latex is the only material in the industry that is 2 dimensional -- offering uplifting support while providing pressure relieving comfort. Mattress Collections within Talalay Latex: TLC Lift, Relax, and Relieve TLC-Collection-Page Lift, Relax, and Relieve. Mattresses of the TLC Collection perfectly cradle the body and are a breathable, healthy, and naturally hypo-allergenic alternative for buyers. These beds are 3 times more breathable than the leading memory foam mattress for improved climate control and comfort. With multiple layers of 100 percent Talalay latex or a premium Marriott core offering different levels of support, TLC Collection bedding provides maximum comfort and durability. Talalay Latex is 7 times more breathable than memory foam, with the enhanced benefits of comfort and support. Less pressure on your body -- Memory foam mattresses require a support layer beneath all that softness, negating many of the benefits of a mattress that conforms to your shape. Latex works differently, it provides natural buoyancy that relieves 33% more pressure. Talalay Latex conforms to your shape and supports you, all without a hard layer than can lead to misalignment. A healthier sleeping environment -- Derived from rubber using renewable resources and biodegradable ingredients, Talalay latex is hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant, and blocks the growth of mold and mildew. If you suffer from asthma or allergies, latex is one of the best possible solutions for deterring irritants and avoiding symptom flare-ups. No harmful gasses -- Memory foam mattresses can release chemical residue and gasses, but not Talalay. Talalay Latex's natural materials go through a gentle manufacturing process with minimal chemicals. The latex is washed with gentle soap and transformed into foam with a special sequence of mixing, freezing, and baking, after which the material is washed with fresh water. With Talalay Latex you will experience a toxin free night's rest. Durability you can count on -- Cornell Indentation and ASTM quality tests show that Talalay Latex is 20 times more durable than Memory Foam. In durability tests, memory foam wears out long before Talalay Latex. Each and every latex core undergoes a nine point firmness consistency test before it leaves the factory. When you choose a Jamison Talalay mattress, you know you have made a sound investment. How to Make Healthy Eating Fun for Kids

02:55
http://www.QualityCateringforKids.com Teaching your kids to eat healthy might feel like a losing battle. These tips are brought to you by Quality Catering for Kids, and we're on your side, ready to support you and make it easy for you to teach your kids about nutritious food. Your children see their friends wolfing down junk food like bags of empty-calorie chips, soft drinks loaded with sugar and calories, ice cream, and oversized hamburgers. Then, they sit in front of the TV where commercials bombard them with marketing messages for unhealthy cereals that are coated with high-fructose corn syrup or other sweeteners. Those breakfast cereals offer little if any nutritional benefits. Studies have shown that children are able to recall many of the commercials they see on TV, and they can even sing the songs! What they don't know is that bad eating habits can cause health problems like osteoporosis, childhood diabetes, asthma, high cholesterol, allergies, obesity, bad teeth and gums, weak bones and even depression. What can you do when kids cry, whine, nag, scream and cajole you to buy the junk food they want to eat? One of the best things you can do is to start teaching good eating habits early, when they are toddlers. At a young age, involve your children in meal planning, shopping and food preparation. Give them a choice of two healthy vegetables and let them pick which one they want for lunch or dinner. Take them shopping with you and look for that vegetable in the supermarket. If they chose a big red pepper, let the child pick the pepper out of the bin and place it in the shopping cart. When you get home, they can help you wash it. You can handle the knife and cut the pepper into strips. Another way to involve children is to teach two lessons at the same time: how to be a smart shopper and also eat healthy. Show them how to clip food coupons from newspapers and magazines, with an emphasis on nutritious foods that are high in fiber, low in fat and calories, and have a minimum of food additives and preservatives. You might even have a favorite website where you can access cents-off coupons for tasty snacks for kids like fat-free yogurt and natural cheese. Many of the mommy blogs will give you lots of other ideas on where to find these coupons. Ask your kids to help you look for healthy kid-tested recipes for nutritious sandwiches, hot vegetables, fresh salads loaded with fruits and vegetables they love, and high-fiber muffins and other snacks. If your kids take their lunch to school, look for items you can make for healthy, low-fat and tasty bag lunches. Kids love turkey sandwiches on whole-grain bread, fresh fruit like Delicious Apples, and fresh vegetables like carrot sticks and broccoli with a low-cal dipping sauce. Introduce children to foods that might be unfamiliar to them. Ask them to try a mango or guava. Explain to them the health benefits of kiwis, and show them our video on "Healthy Kids' Snack Ideas for Vitamin C" at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBM06R1O58I. This is an excellent educational video that will show them all the ways fruits like oranges, mangoes, fresh berries, cantaloupe and watermelon will make them strong and help ward off illness. You can also read to them lots of fun facts about various types of fruits that are rich in Vitamin C, which you'll find in the description below the video. Ask them if they want any of those foods in their bag lunch or as a healthy after-school snack. Keep washed, ready-to-grab fruits and vegetables in a handy location, like the bottom drawer of the refrigerator, so they can eat them whenever they're hungry. Another way to teach children about healthy eating is to take them to the library and look at books about childhood nutrition. Take the books home and read them. Keep asking your children to suggest foods they want to try. If your children like to color, introduce them to our "Healthy Heroes" at our website at http://qualitycateringforkids.com/kids.php. They can meet Abraham Apple, Bridget Banana, Owen Orange, Priscilla Pear, Carol Carrot, Ben Broccoli and others. Each "hero" offers a short explanation of what makes them such a nutritious food choice for children. Ask your kids to choose their favorite hero and draw a picture. Your kids might also like our Nutrition Education Lesson Plan Stories at http://qualitycateringforkids.com/lessons.php. Our registered Dietetic Technician approved them, and even though we suggest that teachers use them, parents can too. Each of the 12 stories takes about five minutes. The stories will make it easy for you to help your kids develop lifelong healthy eating habits. Happy eating! P.S. We cater more than 15,000 nutritious breakfasts, hot lunches and sack lunches each year for day care centers and pre-schools in northern Illinois and southeast Wisconsin. So we know what kinds of foods kids love!

4th Annual SOT Research Conference - SOT, OFT, and CMRT - Treating the Canine and Equine

Thompson JE, Bockhold H, Blum CL. Sacro Occipital Technique: Occipital Fiber Technique and CMRT for Treatment of Canine Fecal Incontinence. 4th Annual Sacro Occipital Technique Research Conference Proceedings: Atlanta, GA. 2012: 101-106. Introduction: This study investigated whether the occipital fiber technique (OFT) could be found in canines and whether a treatment based on OFT would yield any response. Case History: A 12-year-old neutered male German Shepard mix with daily fecal incontinence which was unresponsive to prior interventions presented for chiropractic care. Methods/Intervention: Occipital fiber analysis and treatment was performed by a chiropractor trained in SOT and veterinary chiropractic care on the canine in a standing position with his head slightly flexed for analysis. L5 was treated with spinal manipulative therapy and chiropractic manipulative reflex technique (CMRT) was performed after neutralization of the occipital fiber. Results: During the days that followed the treatment the dog's fecal incontinence was reduced to eight times in 20 days after the first treatment, and then two times a month for the next three months. Prior to this treatment the dog had not any sustained relief from any other modality, including traditional chiropractic care. Conclusion: The owner's interpretation of the dog's response before and after treatment, concurred that a significant positive change had occurred. Due to these findings further investigation into the use of OFT and CMRT for canines and possibly other animals is warranted. [This abbreviated abstract is from one of the 3 invited commentaries and 15 full text abstracts relating to topics such as SOT, cranial techniques, chiropractic manipulative reflex technique, occipital fiber diagnosis, and dental chiropractic co-treatment of TMD. Over 130 pages. http://www.sotousa.com/wp/?p=442] Thompson JE, Bockhold H, Blum CL. Sacro Occipital Technique: Occipital Fiber Technique (OFT) on Equine with Shortness of Breath and Chronic Sinusitis. 4th Annual Sacro Occipital Technique Research Conference Proceedings: Atlanta, GA. 2012: 101-106. Introduction: This study investigated whether the OFT could be found in equines and whether a treatment based on OFT would yield any response. Case History: AB, a 12-year-old Dutch Warm Blood began having shortness of breath during work as a level-3 Dressage competitor. She was diagnosed with a sinus infection and for months as treated multiple times with a variety of antibiotics which only provide short periods of relief. She could not perform due to her condition and euthanasia was considered. Methods/Intervention: Occipital Fiber analysis and treatment was performed while the horse was standing for analysis. Occipital Fiber 2, line 2, was found and corresponded to a tender Thoracic-3 nodule. T3 was adjusted and chiropractic manipulative reflex technique (CMRT) was performed after neutralization of the occipital fiber. Results: 30-hours post treatment the horse threw her head one more time and a large amount of dark thick mucus came out of her mouth and nose and 5-days later the horse was able to return to work as a level-3 Dressage competitor. Conclusion: Due to these findings it is reasonable to assume that further investigation into the use of OFT and CMRT for equines and possibly other animals is warranted.
