Vitamin-C is probably one of the most talked about vitamins around, yet almost one third of Americans aren’t consuming enough! A potent antioxidant, Vitamin-C known to fight free radicals in the body and plays a vital role in overall health. Concerned you might be Vitamin-C deficient? Here are some signs you should be watching for: 1.Slow Wound Healing If you notice your cuts and scrapes are slow to heal, have a closer look at your diet. As Vitamin-C is essential to the formation of collagen in the skin – a new connective tissue that binds a healing wound, a lack will lead to slow healing. Along with playing a role in collagen formation in healing wounds, Vitamin-C acts as a powerful antioxidant and immune-system booster – both of which encourage faster healing. 2.Dry or Splitting Hair and Nails A shiny head of hair and strong nails can often be a good indicator of a balanced-diet. Likewise, a lackluster mane that is dry and splitting may highlight a problem. Because hair is a non-essential tissue, nutrients such as Vitamin-C are sent to more important organs and tissues first, before making their way to the hair. So if you have less than ideal levels of the vitamin, you may find your hair is suffering. Furthermore, Vitamin-C is vital for the absorption of iron – a deficiency of which can cause chronic hair loss and slow hair growth, along with brittle and concave nails. 3.Swollen and Painful Joints Pain and swelling of the joints caused by inflammatory arthritis may be another sign you need to overhaul your diet. A 2004 study, conducted in Great-Britain, found that people who had low levels of Vitamin-C were 3-times more likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis than those whose diets included foods rich in the vitamin. 4.Swollen, Bleeding or Inflamed Gums Oral-health problems, like swollen or bleeding gums or recurrent mouth ulcers, are often linked to suboptimal levels of Vitamin-C. Again, collagen is important as it supports the gums. It’s estimated that gums turn over at least 20% of their collagen every day, meaning regular hits of Vitamin-C are vital for good teeth and gums. Low levels of the vitamin are linked with an increased risk of gum-disease which can range from simple gum inflammation to major soft tissue damage! 5.Poor Immune Function The immune-system, our body’s protection against infection and disease, is strongly influenced by the intake of nutrients, particularly Vitamin-C. Several cells in our immune-system need the vitamin to perform their tasks so naturally a deficiency leads to a reduced resistance against certain pathogens. Getting enough Vitamin-C means that our immune system will be in tip-top shape to reduce the risk, severity and duration of certain infectious diseases. The National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements recommends that men over the age of 18 get 90-mg of Vitamin-C a day from their diet, while women need 75-mg. Foods contain high levels of Vitamin-C are Sweet red pepper, Orange juice, Grapefruit juice, Kiwifruit, broccoli And strawberries. In certain studies, Americans has been found to be the #1 population in vitamin D deficiency. Some of the main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are a weakened immune system, candida or bacterial overgrowth, emotional ups and downs, hormone imbalance, trouble putting on muscle or losing weight, weakened bones or teeth, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Vitamin D supports having a healthy immune response, digestive health, hormone balance, and more. The biggest causes of vitamin D deficiency are not getting enough sunlight, certain chemicals from plastic bottles (bpa), and toxicity. Try to get outside everyday for about 20-30 minutes of natural sunlight. Certain foods that are sources of vitamin D are wild caught fish, raw fermented milk, mushrooms, and eggs. However, there are small amounts in the food you eat. For a good supplement, I would recommend a high quality vitamin D supplement. You don’t want to take vitamin D2, but you do want to take vitamin D3. For supplementation, take about 2000-5000 IUs a day. However, if you have a severe deficiency, then for 1-2 months, you may take 5000 IUs twice daily. Lastly, you want to take your vitamin D3 with some form of fat like coconut oil or avocado to help absorption in your body. So, should you take a multi-vitamin OR individual vitamins/minerals? Well, the answer depends… (doesn't it always??) Yet, I do have some general guidelines to help you, plus I'm sharing what I do. **The Question: Should You Take A Multi-Vitamin Or Individual Vitamins & Supplements To Meet Nutritional Deficiencies? Danielle T. asked, "Is it sufficient to take a multivitamin or is it better dial in on specific nutrients that you need and take multiple, individual supplements?" **My Answer: First, I have to say… We are what we eat. If we eat healthy, we increase our health. If we eat poorly, our health suffers. If we do everything else right (sleep and exercise and reduce stress) yet still eat poorly, we won’t attain the health we could have. Food is utterly redemptive and healing! So, it's important to begin my answer today by saying this: Supplements are not the same as food. You can't out-supplement a poor diet. Sure, there is a time and place for supplements — like when we have an elevated need for a certain nutrient (such as iron or magnesium). However, the more we can meet our nutrition needs through real, whole foods, the better off we’ll be. Whole foods contain much more than any single nutrient we’re after. Often, whole foods contain hundreds more nutrients (some we haven’t even identified!) that all work together to help us better assimilate their nutrition. When we isolate to make supplements, we lose that synergy. I always prefer to seek out whole foods first, and then supplement where a deficit exists. And we do Traditional Cooking here, which takes extra care (but not with extra time if you're already cooking with whole foods) to prepare foods so they are as nutritious and digestible as possible… If you'd like an intro to Traditional Cooking, make sure to sign up for our FREE Traditional Cooking Video Series: http://tradcookschool.com/freevids Having said that… our soils are so depleted and our foods are not as nutrient-dense as they used to be. It's actually hard to get all our nutrients from foods. **So… Many of us reach the point where we find that we have vitamin and mineral deficiencies. I don't see anything wrong with choosing a good multi-vitamin and taking it to cover all the bases. (We do.) However, if you have a severe deficiency, a multi-vitamin usually won't give you enough of what you need. That's where the individual supplements come in. I take magnesium and iron. As well as cod liver oil for Vitamin D3. **Bottom Line It's hard for me to give a “do this” answer for everyone because every situation is a little different. You really can't make a confident decision about what you should do without knowing what your specific deficiencies are. Start with that and work up. Here are two possible scenarios and what you might consider doing: *You have severe deficiencies and don't feel well — Eat well, rest well, drink pure water and consider taking a multi-vitamin to cover the bases as well as individual supplements to work on more extreme deficiencies. *You feel generally well but maybe not as well as you could — Eat well, rest well, drink pure water and consider taking a multi-vitamin to cover the bases, and then see how you feel. If further deficiencies are uncovered in the future, add supplementation (or foods) for those. Some people have food intolerance(s) that rule out certain formulations. This Is What Happens When You Drink a Coffee on an Empty Stomach

You might think drinking coffee in the morning is a great idea. You may even think it’s a great way to get yourself going in the morning. But you’d be surprised to learn that drinking coffee first thing in the morning- especially on an empty stomach- is a terrible idea. Why? Let’s take a look at a few reasons. 1. Stomach Acid Your stomach has hydrochloric acid, which, at the right level, helps your body digest food properly. When your stomach is empty, this acid doesn’t have much to work with, so it can slosh around and hurt your stomach. Drinking a cup of coffee on that empty stomach adds to the problem by putting more acid in your body. Always having too much stomach acid will harm your stomach and digestive tract, leading to problems like heartburn, irritable bowel syndrome, and stomach ulcers. 2. Bad Digestion Having caffeine on an empty stomach ruins digestion, leading to a bloated feeling and other signs of irritable bowel syndrome, like pain and irregularity. How? Caffeine acts like your adrenal glands, which create stress hormones called cortisol and adrenaline. When these hormones flood your body, they raise your heart rate and blood pressure, and your liver starts letting out blood sugar to give energy to muscles so that you can run away. Your digestive system also shuts down to send energy to where it is needed most. 3. Anxiety When you go through your morning on an empty stomach, you lower your brain’s power to properly break down serotonin. Serotonin is the “happy, calm hormone”. When your brain is unable to break down this hormone properly, it causes anxiety and depression. Throwing a cup of coffee on top of that empty stomach causes anxiety by boosting your body’s cortisol and adrenaline levels. That will leave you feeling shaky, nervous, and weak. 4. Dehydration Drinking coffee on empty stomach raises the amount of fluid that your body passes, and can cause dehydration. If you’re like most people, you’ll likely answer to that dehydration by reaching for yet another cup of coffee, making things even worse for yourself. 5. Low Levels of Serotonin Very few people know about this, but coffee will make you feel less hungry. People who drink coffee right away in the morning sometimes end up skipping breakfast. Skipping your first meal of the day can ruin your body’s power to make serotonin, a neurotransmitter in charge of making you feel happy and calm. Also, serotonin is very important for a good night’s sleep. Your body changes serotonin into melatonin at night. Low levels of melatonin usually lead to insomnia problems. If you like drinking coffee, make sure to always have it after breakfast. Most fatigue problems and adrenal insufficiency come from issues with the adrenal glands. About 80% of the population deals with this common problem. There are several warning signs that indicate you may have adrenal fatigue. If you struggle with fatigue, are stressed, anxious, have trouble with concentration, poor memory, thyroid issues, or gained mysterious weight, you may have adrenal fatigue. There are three steps you will want to take to get rid of adrenal fatigue for good. The first starts with your diet. Foods to get out of your diet are caffeine, sugar, and hydrogenated oils. Foods that are high in vitamin B12 and magnesium are going to support your adrenal glands and blood sugar levels, so you will want to add these foods into your diet. Foods like coconut oil, coconut milk, coconut, olives, olive oil, raw dairy products, grass-fed butter, organic meats, loads of vegetables, and seaweed are all crucial to your diet as well. Secondly, you will want to support your adrenals by taking supplements like adaptogenic herbs (such as ashwagandha, holy basil, and licorice root), which will help your body adapt and deal with stress. Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar Before Bedtime Will Change Your Life For Good

Although Apple Cider Vinegar has an overpowering acidic taste, you don’t have to drink it straight to benefit from its amazing properties. Some of those properties include raw enzymes and the promotion of good bacteria in the digestive tract. In order to avoid the taste, some people will substitute Apple Cider Vinegar for regular vinegar when pickling their favorite vegetables, or pair it with olive oil to make a salad dressing with a little kick. However, by simply diluting Apple Cider Vinegar or adding it to tea before bedtime you can significantly improve several areas of your health. Consider a few ways that ACV helps if you take it before bedtime: 1. Halitosis You know that awful taste in your mouth that you wake up with in the morning? It’s probably due to too much bacteria in your mouth. Drinking one tablespoon with eight ounces of water and a slice of lemon before bed, will keep that bacteria at bay and let you wake up more refreshed. 2. Lower Blood Sugar Some people have difficulties sleeping because of a peak in their blood sugar level at night. It’s one of the leading causes of insomnia, and it also impedes the body from burning fat. Apple Cider Vinegar lowers blood sugar levels because it increases insulin sensitivity. If you aren’t already on blood sugar medicine, try taking two teaspoons of Apple Cider Vinegar right before bed each evening and see if you don’t have a more restful night. If you are taking prescription medication for diabetes, please speak with your doctor before using this natural remedy. 3. Hiccups This nice trick overrides nerves in your throat that are responsible for hiccups. If these nerves have to deal with powerful taste in Apple Cider Vinegar, hiccups become less of an issue. What is Alcoholic Wet Brain? http://alcoholmastery.com/what-is-alcoholic-wet-brain/ Today, I just want to do a quick video on wet brain. What is alcoholic wet brain? We often hear this being talked about in the forums and wherever there are people looking for information about how to quit drinking, or about alcoholism in general. They want to know information about this so I’m going to do this video. What is alcoholic wet brain? They are basically a combination of two different disorders. The first one is Wernicke’s encephalopathy and the second one is Korsakoff’s psychosis. These two can occur together or separately. They result from a deficiency of vitamin B1, Thiamine. A lot of the time, people who drink a lot can be short on this. The more alcohol you drink, the more your body will get to a stage where it can’t absorb the vitamin B1 so you can be deficient in that way. The more alcohol you put into your body, the less likely you are to give a shit about your health, give a shit about what you’re putting into your mouth. I’m speaking from experience here. All the drinkers I’ve ever known who go out and get plastered, the last thing they think about is ‘’will I have to cook a healthy meal?’’ Maybe the next day or the day after when their hangovers wore off but not in the moment and certainly not while they’re drinking. It’s always convenience over quality. That’s where it comes from, basically. The deficiency of vitamin B1. Either you’re not getting it anymore into your diet or your body is not capable of absorbing Thiamine. They call it alcoholic wet brain but in reality, you don’t have to be a drinker to get this. It’s not exclusive for heavy drinkers. People who are just not taking it enough in their diet can get this. It’s a long-term condition but it happens very quickly. This is a brain condition. Once you get wet brain syndrome, regardless of what it’s caused by, it’s irreversible. You can’t do anything about it. It’s part of what’s known as alcoholic dementia. They reckon that between 10 and 24% of all dementias are caused by alcohol. That’s another figure that is staggering, and yet we still don’t call this fucking thing a drug. 'Oh no it’s just a beverage. It’s only if you keep drinking loads of it that you do any damage', that’s what the experts say. The experts are quick to point out that -if I say it’s a poison, it’s a toxin for your system, they’ll say ‘so is war! War is toxic for your system. If you drink too much war, you can kill yourself’. And you can as well. But that’s not the fucking point. I’ve tried this before, I’ve gone out with my friends when I stopped drinking. I stopped drinking and I carried on going to the pub, and decided that all I was going to do all night was drink water. Apart from the boredom factor – I was bored out of my brain by not drinking, by the belch that was coming out of my friends’ gobs when they were drunk-, that wasn’t very sensible to me, but I tried to stick it out. But I couldn’t drink the water. These lads were downing pint after pint, which is exactly what I did when I was still drinking, and I could maybe get through a pint of water for every 4 of their pints. I just couldn’t get it down me. So, to say if you drink a lot of water, if you drink too much water then you can get poisoned by it, that’s true but you have to drink a lot of water and it’s very difficult to do that. Water is a beverage. Beer, wine, spirits, alcohol - that’s a drug. The reason you can drink so much of this stuff is because a) it can act as a diuretic so it makes you want to piss more. It turns off that survival mechanism inside your body to retain water as long as you can; and b) you need more of the drug as you go along. So when you start drinking alcohol, you can only drink 2 or 3 pints, and it makes you vomit. It makes the whole world go spinning around. Drink 3 pints of water and it makes you hydrated. It’s something good for you. Drink 3 pints of even weak beer when you’re not used to it, and it will make you sick, drunk and make you have the same symptoms as if you’re having a stroke. ► Signs Of Vitamin B12 Deficiency That Should Never Be Ignored As we grow older, our body’s ability to absorb vitamin B12 slows down. Vitamin B12 is responsible for helping make the red blood cells and DNA. Since the human body is incapable of making vitamin B12, it’s essential that we get it from supplements or animal-based foods. But some people do not take this vitamin seriously. Because of this, they end up suffering from vitamin B12 deficiency. According to statistics, about 40% of North Americans suffer from vitamin B12 deficiency. Also, those who suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia also suffer from vitamin B12 deficiency. If you are suffering from vitamin B12 deficiency, you will experience the following signs. You Can’t Stay Awake: One of the biggest telltale signs of vitamin B12 deficiency is fatigue. This is not normal fatigue though. If you constantly get at least eight hours of sleep and are still tired, you might be suffering from vitamin B12 deficiency. The human body relies on this vitamin to produce red blood cells. The more red blood cells that are created, the more oxygen is carried through the body. One thing to remember is that fatigue is only one symptom, so don’t assume you’re vitamin B12 deficient. You’re Muscles Are Weak: To keep your muscles strong, they need oxygen. The red blood cells that deploy oxygen to the muscles rely on vitamin B12. So if you are vitamin B12 deficient, your muscles will feel weak. Memory Loss: This sign is often mistaken for Alzheimer’s and dementia. But vitamin B12 deficiency can also be to blame. As I have mentioned already, vitamin B12 helps create red blood cells. If there are not a sufficient amount of red blood cells, your brain won’t receive much oxygen. If your brain isn’t receiving enough oxygen, it will not properly function the way you’re used to. This could lead to foggy memory. Pale Skin: If you notice that your complexion looks yellowish, you may be vitamin B12 deficient. It’s when the red blood cells are broken that causes the release of bilirubin. This gives the skin a yellowish color. You may also be suffering from Jaundice, so speak with your doctor if you experience this. Red, Smooth Tongue: The little bumps that are present on your tongue are called papillae. People who suffer from B12 deficiency lose the papillae on their tongue. Research has also indicated that people complain of pain on the back of the tongue. Most of the papillae on the tongue contain taste buds. If you lose most of it, your food will not taste good. Eye Issues: In severe cases, vitamin B12 deficiency can damage the optic nerve. It can also plug up the blood vessels directly in the retina. This can cause double vision, blurry vision, and even vision loss. Thankfully, removing the chlorine from your tap water is super easy. All you have to do is have a water rotation system. After 24 hours, most of the chlorine should have naturally evaporated and your water should be perfectly safe to drink, unless of course, something else has been added other than chlorine. Check with your local water provider to make sure there hasn't been added any fluoride or chloramine (not chlorine), as they don't go away over time!
