Hear June, CAST Macmillan Young Carers Schools Coordinator, and young carers Ryan, Ellie, Jak, Rima and Siana discuss the challenges young carers face and the importance of getting support. http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Youngcarers They talk about some of the things they worried about when their loved one had cancer, the importance of school and friends and other help they received, including their local young carers service. ‘Things were very hard, obviously, when I first found out, but I had a lot of support from friends.’ - Rima, 16, cares for her father Many young carers do not see themselves as carers. But there are thousands of young people in the UK who help to look after someone with cancer. The signs of cancer in young people | A Diagnosis Poem

05:55
Subscribe to Trew Talks on YouTube for more videos and check out the @TrewTalks Facebook! We need to talk about cancer and learn how to spot common symptoms. 1/2 people diagnosed with cancer in the UK are diagnosed in later stages. When a cancer has spread it's harder to treat. Early diagnosis is essential in increasing survival rates. Sadly often symptoms of cancer aren't felt until the cancer has spread but when it comes to young people there are certain signs and symptoms that are most common. By learning these and being persistent we can hopefully save lives!! This is my story with diagnosis and isn't meant to scare people but just to spread a little message :)

Such a beautiful day The sun’s shining in a beautiful way gonna take a shower, brush my teeth and Life is ultimately meaningless ....Uhh (cough)... but I'll get out of the house Get on the road, top down, hands out Put on my favorite song and nod to the rhythm The planet’s being destroyed by your carbon emissions But I- I- , I’ll head to class try my best on every test til I pass and my grades are screaming in my face - Ayyyy 98 percent of what you learn is a waste. I get to hang out with all my friends My friends are the friendliest friends Can't think of a better way to spend my time Your brain is flawed and all your friends will die Nevermind! I’m alive in the greatest nation! So proud of- the exploitation of natives This graceful bird means freedom for all Tell that to the slaves and bald eagles aren't even bald I can live in the moment, milk every second at any time you could get clinical depression But I'll just be happy, no matter what’s in store it’s quite genetic and we have no cure uhh- at least (CHORUS ) We are young not for long Life is fun It only goes downhill We gotta make the most of it, Make the most of it or you'll regret it We are young For now Life is fun for some people We gotta make the most of it, Make the most of it Good luck Woo! I got a brand new job today! Doin stuff that'll help the economy I'll save money and buy things at the store Banks can crash and capitalism is flawed And it’s all because of my hard work And the thousand advantages you lucked into at birth I put a lotta effort in my resume! Good thing you don't have a black person’s name I'm proud to be a functioning member of society Finally, I can be the citizen I dream to be part of the community, contribute with my tax What could possibly stop me? The shrinking middle class I’ve at least got a nice stable job Until it’s outsourced to china or replaced by a robot OH GOD- Well then I could relax a bit You'll be empty with nothing to distract from it But man I'm a passionate graduate I can be different and I have a career paths to pick from I could be a rapper or an animator if I'm lucky Neither of those will make you happy, trust me I'm able to choose what I pursue You're a slave to people born richer than you Then screw it, I'll keep going in then I'll party on the weekend and sing Thanks to autotune (CHORUS ) Life is a wonder you’ll never know the answer Nature is a miracle natural disasters It’s good to be alive you could wake up with cancer But I'm healthy healthy people still get cancer I love this show it’s the last episode The sun is shining it’s going to explode Every species is beautiful and unique though Children have malaria thanks to mosquitoes I met a cute girl with a ponytail Statistically that relationship is going to fail I have a wonderful family, it’s like no other You're not special and one day you'll bury your mother No matter what happens I can find a home! We. Will. All. Die. Alone. There’s amazing potential in every human on earth There’s no escaping the heat death of the universe I don't have to live life based on negative parts No matter how bad they are, they're just thoughts Yeah that’s fair wait really? yeah that seems reasonable wait-wait-wait-wait but you were just telling me whatever man, I dunno, live your life how you want, I'm not forcing you to do anything, I'm just saying. Oh...Well in that case... (CHORUS )

10 Kids That Changed The World

05:25
The world's youngest people who made a difference in the world. Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg --------------------------------------------------------------- Description: When it comes to kids, most adults in our society don’t take them seriously. You can’t really blame these adults for feeling this way since kids are still developing socially and physically, working on becoming well-rounded adults in the future. But it seems that kids need to be taken more seriously nowadays, and they’re now showing a level of maturity that you can only find in educated mentors and older adults. So, perhaps these 10 kids are the exception to the general stereotype and it should signal the fact that kids have the power to change the world. Not only did they make an impact on the world, but they left a legacy that will survive long after they surpass adulthood. For, Jack Andraka managed to change the world of cancer detection at the age of 16. He patented a method that involves detecting a protein in urine that can help detect pancreatic, ovarian, and lung cancer. Not only is it ground breaking, but it is also very inexpensive. Malala Yousafzai miraculously survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban for trying to bring education to girls in the Middle East. Malala moved on to be the youngest person to earn a Nobel Peace Prize as well as speak to the United Nations on changing the world. She has surpassed others in character and maturity and has reached a level of eloquency that most of us can only dream of. Have you ever been friends with or related to someone who’s blind? You’ve probably seen them read braille. Guess what? A young blind teen by the name of Louis Braille, who devised a way to read while he was studying at a school for the blind in Paris. At the young age of 19, he was teaching braille to others and the practice took off. Then we have the tragic story of Iqbal Masih, who was sold into bonded child labor in the carpet industry. He managed to escape at 10 years old, when he joined the Bonded Labour Liberation Front of Pakistan and he helped free over 3000 children. Sadly, he was assassinated not too long after, and it was believed he was killed by the carpet mafia. Speaking of children who died too young, we all know the story of Anne Frank and her famous diary. While she and her family were hiding in her father’s office building for a few years, Anne eventually passed on at the concentration camp she was imprisoned in. Thanks to her diary, we are able to get a glimpse of what life was like in Nazi Germany. Just from the stories of these ten kids, you can easily see that age really is just a number. No matter how old you are, kids have the ability to impact the world in a positive way that can immortalize them in such a way that people will use their methods, inventions, and be inspired by their bravery. Their actions and contributions will end up surpassing their lifetimes and inspire other young people to make a difference. --------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheRichest.org Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheRichest_Com Instagram: http://instagram.com/therichest --------------------------------------------------------------- Featuring: Elif Bilgin Ann Makosinski Anne Frank Blaise Pascal Boyan Slat Claudette Colvin Iqbal Masih Jack Andraka Louis Braille Malala Yousafzai --------------------------------------------------------------- Music Track: In A Dark Space / Audionetwork.com --------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.therichest.com/

Down, Across & Up Behind the Scenes Slideshow

05:18
A look at Down, Across & Up, behind the scenes. On the 3rd of May 2007 we started our journey circumnavigating New Zealand armed with three horses, a cameraman, and a tent. We travelled over 5,000kms to fundraise for CanTeen (a charity that supports young people living with cancer) and film a documentary (Down, Across & Up). The journey took us exactly one year to complete as we finished on the 3rd of May 2008. It raised over $33,000 for CanTeen. These photos were taken during the trek The documentary was filmed in High Definition. All of the original music in both the documentary and our youtube clips is by Jamie Collier. We have also written a book about the journey which has been published by Random House. The documentary (produced by Purple Sheep Productions) and the book are available through our website and a percentage goes to the charity CanTeen. LIVESTRONG at School

08:37
Think K-12 students are too young to face cancer? Think again. With one in three people in the U.S. facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, children in classrooms everywhere are likely to be dealing with cancer right now—with a grandparent, parent, family member, friend or teacher. Research shows that 25 percent of cancer survivors in the U.S. have school-aged children. Also, siblings of children with cancer report that the support they receive at school is just as important as the support they receive at home. If you are an educator, help your students cope with and learn about cancer. The LIVESTRONG at School curriculum offers online lessons for grades K--12 to help you teach your students about cancer in a way that is age-appropriate, inspiring and empowering.
