ADHD, Depression, & Anxiety: Serotonin & Dopamine Problems - Tutorial

If you miss 50% of the problem you're likely to miss it all. You can find Dr. Parker’s book "New ADHD Medication Rules: Brain Science & Common Sense" globally, by clicking on this link: http://geni.us/adhd 0:30 0:54 *How To Start ADHD Meds* Download: http://corepsych.com/start http://corepsych.com - More than 460 articles on psychiatric diagnosis and treatment. *Drug Interactions:* http://corepsych.com/2d6-video To see the connection between brain science and common sense: evidence matters. This is one of my top three recommended videos for starting ADHD/Executive Function treatment: http://www.corepsych.com/basic-3 The treatment for these two often comorbid conditions needs careful attention to both of these diagnostic issues: *Dopamine - ADHD - products don't correct serotonin imbalances, but, on the other hand, make them worse. *Serotonin - depression & anxiety - products don't treat ADHD effectively, and more often make ADHD much worse. Years of experience with my own incorrect diagnostic and dosing strategies strongly encourage more informed treatment strategies. http://youtu.be/Wsj219F9M2Q

Depression - 10 Conditions
10 Conditions that Feel Like Clinical Depression but Require Different Treatment Suppose that you go to your doctor and complain of fatigue, guilt, worthlessness, irritability, insomnia, decreased appetite, loss of interest in regular life activities, persistent sadness, anxiety, and thoughts of suicide, you would probably leave your doctor’s office with the diagnosis of depression, and a prescription for Zoloft, Prozac, or another anti-dpressant drug. But is this *always* the right diagnosis for such symptoms? The answer is: NO! Those same symptoms belong to a variety of other conditions that require treatments other than antidepressants and psychotherapy. They may certainly look and feel like clinical depression to the outsider, but they require a different way of treatment. Here are 10 conditions that might show the same symptoms as clinical depression: 1. Vitamin D deficiency 2. Hypothyroidism 3. Low blood sugar 4. Dehydration 5. Food intolerance 6. Caffeine withdrawal 7. Some medications 8. Iron deficiency 9. Lack of sleep 10. Help For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
http://www.dailyrxnews.com/ A new study from Yale University found that sertraline (brand name Zoloft) may help alleviate the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in some women. Sertraline is an antidepressant typically used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder and anxiety. For this study, a team of researchers led by Kimberly A. Yonkers, MD, a professor of psychiatry and epidemiology at Yale's School of Public Health, compared sertraline to a placebo in 252 women with PMDD. PMDD is a severe, sometimes debilitating disorder that occurs in some women between ovulation and menstruation. The most common symptoms of PMDD are severe depression, fatigue, irritability and tension. Although similar in some ways to premenstrual syndrome (PMS), these symptoms are typically much more severe. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), PMDD is estimated to affect around 8 percent of women. While its cause is still largely unknown, hormonal changes are suspected to play a role. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like sertraline have previously been found to be effective for some women with PMDD when taken daily or during the second half of the menstrual cycle. Dr. Yonkers and team wanted to determine whether sertraline was effective if taken when PMDD symptoms first began. These researchers divided the women into two groups. The first group took between 50 and 100 milligrams of sertraline at the first signs of PMDD. The second group took a placebo. The women kept records of their symptoms using several different tracking tools for six months. Those on sertraline showed improvement in symptom severity, and anger/irritability when compared to those on placebo.

Prozac: The Military's Secret Weapon
U.S. combat troops are taking daily doses of antidepressants to calm nerves strained by repeated and lengthy tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. The medicines are intended not only to help troops keep their cool but also to enable the already strapped Army to preserve its most precious resource: soldiers on the front lines. Data contained in the Army's fifth Mental Health Advisory Team report indicate that, according to an anonymous survey of U.S. troops taken last fall, about 12% of combat troops in Iraq and 17% of those in Afghanistan are taking prescription antidepressants or sleeping pills to help them cope. Escalating violence in Afghanistan and the more isolated mission have driven troops to rely more on medication there than in Iraq, military officials say. At a Pentagon that keeps statistics on just about everything, there is no central clearinghouse for this kind of data, and the Army hasn't consistently asked about prescription-drug use, which makes it difficult to track. Given the traditional stigma associated with soldiers seeking mental help, the survey, released in March, probably underestimates antidepressant use. But if the Army numbers reflect those of other services — the Army has by far the most troops deployed to the war zones — about 20,000 troops in Afghanistan and Iraq were on such medications last fall. The Army estimates that authorized drug use splits roughly fifty-fifty between troops taking antidepressants — largely the class of drugs that includes Prozac and Zoloft — and those taking prescription sleeping pills like Ambien. In some ways, the prescriptions may seem unremarkable. Generals, history shows, have plied their troops with medicinal palliatives at least since George Washington ordered rum rations at Valley Forge. During World War II, the Nazis fueled their blitzkrieg into France and Poland with the help of an amphetamine known as Pervitin. The U.S. Army also used amphetamines during the Vietnam War. The increase in the use of medication among U.S. troops suggests the heavy mental and psychological price being paid by soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Pentagon surveys show that while all soldiers deployed to a war zone will feel stressed, 70% will manage to bounce back to normalcy. But about 20% will suffer from what the military calls "temporary stress injuries," and 10% will be afflicted with "stress illnesses." Such ailments, according to briefings commanders get before deploying, begin with mild anxiety and irritability, difficulty sleeping, and growing feelings of apathy and pessimism. As the condition worsens, the feelings last longer and can come to include panic, rage, uncontrolled shaking and temporary paralysis. The symptoms often continue back home, playing a key role in broken marriages, suicides and psychiatric breakdowns. The mental trauma has become so common that the Pentagon may expand the list of "qualifying wounds" for a Purple Heart — historically limited to those physically injured on the battlefield — to include posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on May 2 that it's "clearly something" that needs to be considered, and the Pentagon is weighing the change. Which means that any drug that keeps a soldier deployed and fighting also saves money on training and deploying replacements. But there is a downside: the number of soldiers requiring long-term mental-health services soars with repeated deployments and lengthy combat tours. If troops do not get sufficient time away from combat — both while in theater and during the "dwell time" at home before they go back to war — it's possible that antidepressants and sleeping aids will be used to stretch an already taut force even tighter. "This is what happens when you try to fight a long war with an army that wasn't designed for a long war," says Lawrence Korb, Pentagon personnel chief during the Reagan Administration. http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1811858,00.html

It blocks some adrenergic auto and heteroreceptors, increasing serotonin release, and selectively antagonizes serotonin receptors in the central and peripheral nervous system. It also enhances serotonin neurotransmission and blocks the histaminergic and muscarinic receptors. Mirtazapine is not a serotonin or norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor but may increase serotonin and norepinephrine by other mechanisms of action. Side Effects: Constipation, dry mouth, weight gain, increase appetite, somnolence, sedation, sleepiness, weakness, distrurbance in thinking, peripheral edema, increased blood pressure. When Discontinuing Use: Mirtazapine and other antidepressants may cause a discontinuation syndrome upon cessation. A GRADUAL and SLOW reduction in dose is recommended. Effects of sudden cessation of treatment with mirtazapine may include depression, anxiety, panic attacks, vertigo, restlessness, irritability, decreased appetite, insomnia, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, flu-like symptoms such as allergies and pruritus, headaches and sometimes hypomania or mania. It can go so far as to cause suicidal thoughts, so please, be careful!! AKA not good!!! PLEASE always been under the care of a great doctor and NEVER stop taking a drug suddenly without guidance from your doctor. What Can You Do About Mood Swings From Menopause?
What Can You Do About Mood Swings From Menopause? - http://www.drpam.com - Very low-dose anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medications help with the emotional changes of peri-menopause and menopausal transition. My favorite drug in the world to use for this is a low dose of Prozac®. If you read the medical journals and textbooks, you always will see Effexor®, Paxil®, and Wellbutrin® discussed for menopause. I personally think that the doses that you have to start people on with these -drugs are too high. Prozac®, or fluoxetine, is approved for PMS by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), and it works great. Thank you to BetterHelp for sponsoring this video! Generalized Anxiety Disorder is when we have excessive worry or anxiety that last for at least 6 months. This anxiety and worry can lead us to feeling restless or on edge, easily fatigued, have difficulty concentrating, irritable, tense muscles, and struggle to get a good night sleep. This anxiety and worry can lead us to feeling restless or on edge, easily fatigued, have difficulty concentrating, irritable, tense muscles, and struggle to get a good night sleep. This anxiety and worry can lead us to feeling restless or on edge, easily fatigued, have difficulty concentrating, irritable, tense muscles, and struggle to get a good night sleep. In adults, this disorder tends to be focused around worry associated with health, finances, and everyday routine life circumstances. In children, this tends to present more as worry about competence (tests and assessments) and the quality of their performance (sports games, musical performances, etc). Although the median age of onset is 30 years old, those who they spoke to stated that they had felt anxious their entire lives. The good news is that there are many treatment options! First is talk therapy and more specifically CBT. This helps us challenge those automatic/faulty thoughts so that we can slowly get back to doing the things we used to do without worry or anxiety. This can take time and lots of therapy homework, but they find CBT to be the best therapy approach. Secondly, medication. I know not everyone is open to trying medication, but they find that CBT with medication gives us the best chance of recovery. Usually, SSRI's or SNRI's (otherwise known as anti-depressants) are used first. If those don't help at certain intense moments, they may prescribe a benzodiazepine to be used only in acute situations due to its habit forming tendencies. So please be careful if you are prescribed these and do not use them every day. Lastly, there are some lifestyle changes you can make. Eating regularly and from a well-balanced diet can help. Also, cutting back on coffee and alcohol can help us sleep more soundly and get rid of any symptoms that may feel like anxiety. Getting exercise and taking time to meditate can help us better manage any of the anxiety symptoms we struggle with. I hope you found this helpful! According to the FDA Cymbalta may treat depression, diabetic related nerve pain, anxiety, fibromyalgia and low back pain. Also known as Duloxetine, the quality of evidence supporting the medicine unfortunately remains of modest to low quality. Actually some studies indicate no benefit when compared to the SSRIs such as Prozac, Zoloft and Lexapro. Similarly effectiveness in fibromyalgia and diabetic neuropathy appears unimpressive. Discontinuing Cymbalta may lead to a peculiar Discontinuation Syndrome associated with headache, dizziness, irritability, sleeplessness, tremor and lack of energy. Some people experience electrical shock like sensations referred to as “brain zaps.”

Sertraline (Zoloft): What You Need To Know
Sertraline is an antidepressant in the SSRI class. It’s used for depression, anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, and a number of other conditions. After entering the market in the early 1990s, sertraline became one of the most popular antidepressants. The drug is used in adults, adolescents, and children. There might be greater concerns and lower efficacy in young people. Depression and Chronic Pain
Due to psychosomatic symptoms of mental illness, chronic pain can be caused by depression. Meaning that because of our depression we can feel like we are in pain all the time. Today I want to talk about how chronic pain (or being in pain for many weeks without a break) can lead to depression. Imagine if you are in pain more days then not, it would be really hard to sleep, you wouldn't want to be out with other people, and you may even struggle to concentrate. There can also be legal and financial issues associated with chronic pain as our medical bills pile up and we attempt to get disability. I only mention these issues so that you can grasp just how hard having chronic pain can be, and why it is so closely linked to depression. I also did a video on chronic illness with Hank Green where he talked about grieving the loss of what his life could have looked like. Click here for more: https://youtu.be/IXbAYg5pp9M He mentions how important it is that we try and focus on what we can do instead of focusing on the things that we can't do anymore. Shifting our thoughts to a more positive place is so helpful and I honestly believe can change our overall outlook on life. There are also treatment options available! Seeing a therapist who can work with you on processing the loss and grief that you may feel as well as helping you focus on what you can do will really help. They also mention how medication not only for your pain but also for your depression (ie. SSRIs, SNRIs, etc) can really help. Lastly, there are treatment centers that work to help us overcome both issues at the same time. The Mayo Clinic has a great one (link below) but if going into a treatment center like that doesn't work for you, you can also treat each issue separately through pain management and psychotherapy. The overall message I want you to hear is that help is available and it can get better. Even if the pain we feel doesn't go away, we can find ways to better manage our emotions around it and heal our relationships with ourselves and others. I hope you found this helpful! I know this is something many in our community struggle with, and that's why it's important to share this video and your experience in the comments so we can learn from each other and feel better. 5-HTP Review - Does 5-HTP Really Work? - Youtube
http://5-HTPFREEOFFER.COM Click Link to Left for a FREE Bottle of 5-HTP 5-HTP Review. Are you under a lot of Stress? Do you have trouble sleeping at night? Are you suffering from depression? Do you get headaches all the time? Do you have eating disorders? Are you gaining too much weight even if you don't eat too much? If you can relate to these, no need to worry for they can all go away with 5-HTP. What is 5-HTP? 5-Hydroxytryptophan also known as 5-HTP is a chemical by-product of the protein building block L-tryptophan. 5-HTP is produced using the seeds of the Griffonia simplicifolia which is known African plant. In other words, 5-HTP is an amino acid that functions in the central nervous system and brain by enhancing the making of the chemical known as serotonin. 5-HTP is essential to overall health. It is used to treat many conditions like depression, obesity, carbohydrate craving, bulimia, insomnia, narcolepsy, sleep apnea, migraine, headaches, and fibromyalgia. What is Serotonin? Scientifically, Serotonin is a hormone found in the pineal gland, digestive tract, blood platelets and brain. It works as a neurotransmitter that sends nerve signals between nerve cells. Normally, the body maintains a normal serotonin level, but there are times when the level of Serotonin drops. When this happens, you may experience various health conditions. A common cause of low- serotonin levels is prolonged stress. A poor diet can also cause serotonin levels to drop. Aside from that, hormonal changes may also contribute to low levels of serotonin. There are also studies that show that abuse of nicotine, alcohol and drugs may lead to a drop in the level of Serotonin in our body. 5-HTP Treats Depression People with depression have measurable 'imbalances' in the brain's neurotransmitters. Doctors believe that low levels of serotonin cause the condition. One of the many factors that contribute to depression is the low level of serotonin in the brain. Some studies indicate that 5-HTP is as effective in treating people who are experiencing moderate depression since it works as antidepressant drug. Aside from that, these studies have also revealed that it is effective in improving mood, anxiety, insomnia, and physical symptoms. 5-HTP Improves Sleep Problems People who suffer from sleeping problems are known to have low levels of serotonin. 5-HTP has been shown to improve the quality of sleep. Medical research indicates that taking 5-HTP before bedtime can induce sleepiness and delay wake times. 5-HTP Relieves Headaches If you often suffer from severe headaches including migraines, 5-HTp can reduce them. 5-HTP can be used by adults and even children who are suffering from headaches. 5-HTP is not only effective in relieving migraine, also tends to decrease the frequency and severity of migraine headaches with continued use. 5-HTP treats Obesity If your serotonin levels are low, you always crave for food. You may feel like you have to eat all the time. Eating can make you feel better temporarily but when all those calories wear off and eventually your serotonin levels drops. When that happens the pleasurable effect goes away, and the cravings return. When it does, it is also accompanied by anxiety, foggy thinking and irritability. This cycle cause you to gain a lot of weight and causes obesity. Consuming 5-HTP could be very beneficial for one's health, to find out more about this supplement you can visit http://www.wholehealth.com/vitamins-supplements/5-htp. Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) - causes, symptoms & treatment

For Menopausal Women, Rx May Up Fracture Risk
http://www.dailyrxnews.com/selective-serotonin-reuptake-inhibitors-treat-menopause-symptoms-may-raise-bone-fracture-risk Women going through menopause may take antidepressants to help treat mood swings and hot flashes. These medications, however, may up women's risk of injury. A new study found that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may increase the risk of bone fracture among middle-aged women going through menopause. Because this raised risk appears to last for several years, the authors of this study said a shorter course of SSRI treatment may be needed. Commonly prescribed to treat moderate to severe depression, SSRIs work primarily by affecting serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter (chemical messenger) in the brain. Some women have found that these antidepressants may reduce irritability, depression, moodiness and hot flashes that may result from menopause. Past research has also suggested that SSRIs may affect bone density. Matthew Miller, MD, with the Department of Health Science at Northeastern University in Boston, and colleagues conducted this study. “We find that SSRIs are associated with higher risks of fractures, an effect that first became evident several months after treatment initiation,” Dr. Miller and team wrote. “Our finding suggests that, if feasible, shorter duration of treatment might mitigate the risk of developing excess fractures.” They added that “Future efforts should examine whether this association pertains at lower doses.”

ABILIFY® Aripiprazole‎ 1 Week Review + Side Effects
Don't forget to leave a like! Note: What I meant to say in the video is LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR, BUT do NOT take his advice to heart. Listen to yourself, your body, and your mind. Tell your doctor what is happening and keep in mind that he gets paid a lot no matter what he says. Also always get a second opinion. The more opinions/advice you have, the easier it will be for you to decide what is right for you. Aripiprazole, sold under the brand name Abilify among others, is an atypical antipsychotic. It is recommended and primarily used in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.[5] Other uses include as an add-on treatment in major depressive disorder, tic disorders, and irritability associated with autism.[6] According to a Cochrane review, evidence for the oral form in schizophrenia is not sufficient to determine effects on general functioning.[7] Additionally, because many people dropped out of the medication trials before they were completed, the overall strength of the conclusions is low.[7] Side effects include neuroleptic malignant syndrome, a movement disorder known as tardive dyskinesia, and high blood sugar in those with diabetes.[5] In the elderly there is an increased risk of death.[5] It is thus not recommended for use in those with psychosis due to dementia.[5] It is pregnancy category C in the United States and category C in Australia, meaning there is possible evidence of harm to the fetus.[5][8] It is not recommended for women who are breastfeeding.[5] It is unclear whether it is safe or effective in people less than 18 years old.[5] It is a partial dopamine agonist. Aripiprazole was developed by Otsuka in Japan. In the United States, Otsuka America markets it jointly with Bristol-Myers Squibb. From April 2013 to March 2014, sales of Abilify amounted to almost $6.9 billion.[9] POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, excess saliva/drooling, blurred vision, weight gain, constipation, headache, and trouble sleeping may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Risperidone (Risperdal) REVIEW
I review the anti-anxiety, as well as anti-psychotic medication Risperidone, the generic for Risperdal. Risperidone is used to treat anxiety and for people with more intense problems, bi-polar disorder and even schizophrenia. I was taking Risperidone for anxiety. At the time this video was filmed I was on Risperdal over 10 years, and tell you all about my ups and downs during that time. I may have discontinued use of this medication and all medications at this point. Yet I do not like to say publicly what medications I am or am not taking. I was, however, on Risperidone for about 10 years, and these are my results. I do suggest to first and foremost see a psychiatrist or prescribing doctor and a psychologist or counsellor to diagnose you before starting any medications. In my opinion, and I am not a doctor or qualified medical professional in any way, I suggest to readjust your diet, consider if you are not getting enough nutrients at important times throughout the day (especially breakfast, if you are substituting morning meals for caffeine, which can deprive your brain of nutrients), as well as take a look at the privacy and well being of your current living situation, also your employment situation insofar as relationships at work or if it is a job that makes you happy. Also, I suggest that before starting medication to reevaluate your closest relationships in your life and if there is an imbalance that is causing you to have these problems or any possible outside influences that can be changed without the need for medication. Please consult a prescribing doctor, psychiatrist and psychologist to talk about this before deciding what treatment is right for you. Review of Zoloft (generic for Sertraline): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oU1GiqrGnF0 Review of Citalopram (generic for Celexa): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdEVgA7cd2c I cannot offer much advice, because I am not a doctor. However, if you have questions, please just watch the whole video and if you are interested my videos on Citalopram (Celexa) and Zoloft (Sertraline) at the above links. I offer insight to anyone taking this medicine or considering taking this medicine for anxiety, depression or other problems. I wish you the best and wish I had the time to help out everyone. All I can suggest is to actually hear all I have already said in the videos, which should answer your questions, as well as ask your psychiatrist. Here and there I try to help by responding to comments, but I have covered most of everything in the videos. Thanks for watching. Here is information copied directly from WIkipedia on Risperdal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risperidone): Risperidone, sold under the trade name Risperdal among others, is an antipsychotic medication.[1] It is mainly used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and irritability in people with autism. It is taken either by mouth or by injection into a muscle.[1] The injectable version is long acting and lasts for about two weeks.[2] Common side effects include movement problems, sleepiness, trouble seeing, constipation, and increased weight.[1][3] Serious side effects may include the potentially permanent movement disorder tardive dyskinesia, as well as neuroleptic malignant syndrome, an increased risk of suicide, and high blood sugar levels.[1][2] In older people with psychosis as a result of dementia it may increase the risk of dying. It is unclear if it is safe for use in pregnancy. Risperidone is an atypical antipsychotic. Its mechanism of action is not entirely clear but believed to be related to its ability as a dopamine antagonist.[1] Information, websites and links about me Watch now on Amazon instant video or buy my first feature film Crazy Animal on DVD at this link! Mental illness medications part 1 of 2
I describe my experience with medication management as part of my treatment for my mental illnesses from 2014 to present. THERE IS NO SHAME IN TAKING MEDICATION!!!!! Let me know if you have any questions or your experiences with meds! I am an open book! Hope this helps! *****SNRI's work on BOTH SEROTONIN AND NOREPINEPHRINE! I LIED! Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) Antidepressant SNRIs help relieve depression symptoms, such as irritability and sadness, but some are also used for anxiety disorders and nerve pain. Here's how they work and what side effects they may cause. By Mayo Clinic Staff Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are a class of medications that are effective in treating depression. SNRIs are also sometimes used to treat other conditions, such as anxiety disorders and long-term (chronic) pain, especially nerve pain. SNRIs may be helpful if you have chronic pain in addition to depression. How SNRIs work SNRIs ease depression by impacting chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) used to communicate between brain cells. Like most antidepressants, SNRIs work by ultimately effecting changes in brain chemistry and communication in brain nerve cell circuitry known to regulate mood, to help relieve depression. SNRIs block the reabsorption (reuptake) of the neurotransmitters serotonin (ser-o-TOE-nin) and norepinephrine (nor-ep-ih-NEF-rin) in the brain. SNRIs approved to treat depression The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved these SNRIs to treat depression: Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq, Khedezla) Duloxetine (Cymbalta) ― also approved to treat anxiety and certain types of chronic pain Levomilnacipran (Fetzima) Venlafaxine (Effexor XR) ― also approved to treat anxiety and panic disorder Side effects and cautions All SNRIs work in a similar way and generally can cause similar side effects, though some people may not experience any side effects. Side effects are usually mild and go away after the first few weeks of treatment. Taking your medication with food may reduce nausea. If you can't tolerate one SNRI, you may be able to tolerate a different one, as each SNRI varies in chemical makeup. The most common possible side effects of SNRIs include: Nausea Dry mouth Dizziness Headache Excessive sweating Other possible side effects may include: Tiredness Constipation Insomnia Changes in sexual function, such as reduced sexual desire, difficulty reaching orgasm or the inability to maintain an erection (erectile dysfunction) Loss of appetite Typically the benefits of antidepressants outweigh the possible side effects. Which antidepressant is best for you depends on a number of issues, such as your symptoms and any other health conditions you may have. Ask your doctor and pharmacist about the most common possible side effects for your specific SNRI and read the patient medication guide that comes with the prescription.

Difference between Clonazepam and Lorazepam Clonazepam VS Lorazepam
Clonazepam vs. Xanax Is There a Difference. Overview: Anxiety disorders can cause emotional and physical symptoms that can disrupt your everyday life. Emotional symptoms of anxiety disorders include feelings of fear, apprehension, and irritability. Among the physical symptoms are: *pounding heartbeat. *shortness of breath. *stomach and digestive problems. *headaches. *tremors and twitching. *numbness or tingling of the hands and feet. *sleep problems and fatigue. Anxiety disorders can be treated, though. Treatment usually requires a combination of methods, including medication. To treat your anxiety, your doctor may recommend clonazepam or Xanax. How they work: Clonazepam is a generic drug. It’s also sold as the brand-name drug Klonopin. Xanax, on the other hand, is a brand-name version of the drug alprazolam. Both clonazepam and Xanax are central nervous system (CNS) depressants and are classified as benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines affect gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a key chemical messenger in your brain. These drugs cause nerve impulses throughout your body to slow down, leading to a calming effect. What they treat: Both drugs treat anxiety disorders, including panic attacks in adults. Clonazepam also treats seizures in adults and children. The effectiveness and safety of Xanax has not been established in children, on the other hand. Cost: How much you’ll pay for a prescription drug can vary depending on where you live, your pharmacy, and your health insurance plan. Generally speaking, generic versions are significantly less expensive than brand name versions. That means clonazepam will likely be cheaper than Xanax. Side effects: There are a lot of potential side effects of benzodiazepines, but you’re unlikely to have more than a few. For most people, the side effects are mild and tolerable. They usually occur early on and subside as your body gets used to the drug. The most common side effects are light-headedness and drowsiness. These can impair your ability to drive. If you feel lightheaded or sleepy while taking either of these drugs, don’t drive or operate dangerous equipment. It’s possible to have an allergic reaction to both clonazepam and Xanax. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include hives, itching, or skin rash. If you develop swelling of the face, tongue, or throat or trouble breathing, seek medical attention immediately. Interactions: Taking other CNS depressants with clonazepam or Xanax can intensify their intended effects. Mixing these substances is dangerous and can cause loss of consciousness. In some cases, it can be fatal. Other CNS depressants include: *sedatives and sleeping pills. *tranquilizers and mood stabilizers. *muscle relaxants. *seizure medications. *prescription pain medications. *alcohol. *marijuana. *antihistamines. You can find detailed lists of interacting substances for both drugs in the interactions for Xanax and clonazepam. Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the medications you take, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, and ask about potentially dangerous interactions. Fetzima Medication Alternative 1-888-566-8774
Looking for a Fetzima Medication Alternative? https://ktcpartnership.com/ FETZIMA (levomilnacipran extended-release capsules) is a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) indicated for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adults. In the last decade, KETAMINE has been used to treat patients with major depression, bipolar depression, and postpartum depression with a greater than 70% success rate within hours to days (not weeks to months like most oral medications/pills). The most common side effects of FETZIMA include: • Nausea or vomiting, constipation, sweating, increased heart rate, erectile dysfunction, and palpitations • The most common sexual side effect was erectile dysfunction, which occurred in 6% of men who took FETZIMA in clinical studies. Fewer than 2% of FETZIMA-treated female MDD patients in placebo-controlled clinical studies reported side effects related to sexual function. FETZIMA may cause serious side effects, including: • Antidepressants (including FETZIMA) increased the risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior in children, teenagers, and young adults. In patients of all ages who are started on antidepressant therapy, watch closely for worsening depression and for suicidal thoughts and behaviors. • Seizures or convulsions • High blood pressure and/or increased heart rate • Abnormal bleeding: FETZIMA may increase your risk of bleeding or bruising, especially if you take blood thinners, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), or aspirin. • Visual problems: Eye pain, changes in vision, swelling or redness in or around the eye. • Trouble urinating • Hypomania (manic episodes) • Discontinuation symptoms: Do not stop FETZIMA without first talking to your healthcare provider. Stopping FETZIMA suddenly may cause serious symptoms, including: anxiety, irritability, high or low mood, feeling restless or sleepy, headache, sweating, nausea, dizziness, electric shock-like sensations, tremor, or confusion. • Low salt (sodium) levels in the blood: Symptoms may include headache, difficulty concentrating, memory changes, confusion, weakness, and unsteadiness on your feet. Severe or sudden cases may produce hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not real), fainting, seizures, and coma. If not treated, severe low sodium levels could cause death. Far and away the most common experience with KETAMINE infusions (at KETAMINE TREATMENT CENTERS) is to have NO SIDE EFFECTS in between treatments. ALL OF THE ABOVE INFORMATION REGARDING FETZIMA IS TAKEN VERBATIM FROM www.fetzima.com KETAMINE is a medicine developed more than 50 years ago for anesthesia during surgery, and has been used for that purpose since that time in children, adults, and animals. More recently, KETAMINE has been found to be a valuable and highly effective treatment for major depression, bipolar depression, postpartum depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and certain pain disorders such as fibromyalgia. KETAMINE TREATMENT CENTERS offers infusions as a simple outpatient procedure. Following a consultation to determine the appropriateness and safety of this treatment, patients are guided each step of the way with the help of a clinical coordinator to ensure a smooth, supportive process. Because the effects of a single infusion are short-lived, patients who show response (70%) will receive a series of infusions over a 2-3 week period. This is an off-label use of KETAMINE, meaning that the FDA has not approved this medication for this use. However, its safety and effectiveness have been demonstrated in multiple research studies, and off-label prescribing is a common and necessary practice in all fields of medicine. KETAMINE TREATMENT CENTERS was founded in 2011 by Dr. Steven P. Levine. Though he is a psychiatrist who places great emphasis on the importance of psychotherapy, medication is often a necessary component of treatment, and he was dissatisfied with the relatively ineffective available options with burdensome side effects. Dr. Levine pioneered a protocol for the clinical use of KETAMINE infusions, has directly supervised many thousands of infusions, and has helped establish similar programs across the country and around the world. Dr. Levine has partnered with Dr. Anand Dugar, a board-certified anesthesiologist, combining the expertise of both psychiatry and anesthesia to provide unrivaled, world-class care for the treatment of major depression, bipolar depression, postpartum depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), fibromyalgia, and pain syndromes. Today, we are proud to have a growing network of KETAMINE TREATMENT CENTERS around the country bringing this important treatment closer to home for millions more.
