First I marked out and cut the pieces I would need for each shelf. For this cabinet there are 8. Seven actual shelves and the top. After I had the proper length cut for each one, I headed over to the table saw and ripped each piece down ¼ inch shorter than each of the sides would be to allow for the back panel later on. Using a circular saw, I cut some off the side of each board that would be the side to bring it down to the dimension I wanted. I also cut them to length on the miter saw. Once I had everything cut for the shell of the cabinet, I started the task of drilling all of the pocket holes. I laid these out with equal spacing so they would look somewhat nice when the cabinet was opened, especially since I wasn't planing on filling in the holes. After all the holes were drilled I did the most exciting part of the project. I only sanded the side opposite of the pocket holes though. It saved both time and my sanity. I also hit the front edges as well. The next step was to mark out where each shelf would go. This is fairly quick work of you measure out each shelf and then pencil your lines on with a square. Now that all the holes are drilled and the marks are drawn you can start screwing the shelves to the sides. I started out by attaching all the shelves to one side. After I had all of those attached, I moved what I had assembled, flipped it and sat it back down on the opposite side. Since both sides are marked the same, this makes it incredibly easy to line up. Next, I flipped the cabinet on its face and added a ¼ inch deep rabbet around the inside edge of each side to allow it to receive the back panels. The back panels I used were some ¼ inch thick harboard panels that I had gotten from an old building I recently helped renovate. Before nailing them down, I measured to make sure everything was square and then fastened them down with some brads. Since these did come from an old building, I sanded down the back of the panels to remove some of the coal dust that was caked into the fibers. I also made two pieces for the front of the cabinet that would set above and below the doors. To make them look a little nicer, I put chamfer on the edges. Then I glued and nailed them in place. The last thing to construct was the cabinet doors. The doors I settled on were simple and were assembled with butt joints, glue and you guessed it, more pocket screws. So they would match the top and bottom plates of the cabinet, I added the same chamfer around the outside edges of the doors, but I left the inside edges how they were. … read more about this project on our website. Giving kitchen cabinet doors a new look by changing them to glass doors
this is something we get asked to do often, you can add mullions but I find that if you don't line the shelves up with them it don't look too good,so just a single pane look seems to work best for displaying whatever you want in your kitchen. thank you for watching My videos are for entertainment only. Woodworking can be dangerous. The methods I use are my methods, and are not necessarily correct or safe! If in doubt, DON'T DO IT, it is best to learn more before you start. And always remember to read, understand and follow, all the manufacturers instructions that come with your tools. The 16" drawer slides shown in the video ended up being too long so I used 14" ones and they work great (cabinet is about 15" wide). Build It | Salvaged Door Shadow Box
Watch the full episode: https://www.thisoldhouse.com/watch/ask-toh-water-softener-app-shadow-box Ask This Old House general contractor Tom Silva and host Kevin O’Connor build a shadow box using wood recycled from an old door Click here to SUBSCRIBE to the official This Old House YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=thisoldhouse Time: 5-6 hours Cost: $100 Skill Level: Moderate Tools List for Building a Shadow Box: Table saw Circular saw Palm sander Miter saw Glass cutter and oil Marker Spray bottle Brad nailer Strap clamp Shopping List: Old wooden door Safety glasses Hearing protection Work gloves P95 or higher rated mask 60-80-100 grit sandpaper for palm sander Wood glue Glass Clear glue Brad nails Steps: 1. Older doors may contain lead paint. Use a test kit from a home center to verify if lead is present, and if it is, you may want to have the door stripped by a professional. 2. Cut the door down to pieces using the circular saw. Use the stiles and rails as a rough guide for where to make the cuts. 3. True up the sides of the boards using the table saw. 4. Shave off the stain using the table saw. Do two passes through the saw on both sides of each board. Since this was an old door, use a P95 or higher rated mask to protect yourself from the sawdust. Once the stain is removed, the mask can be removed. 5. Use the table saw to make a rabbet cut on the edge of one of the stiles to hold the back panel. On the other side of the same stile, make a dado cut to hold the glass. 6. Sand down the back panel of the door to use as a backer for the shadow box. 7. Fill in any holes with homemade wood filler made from wood glue saw dust left over from making previous cuts. You may need to install scrap fillers into larger holes before adding the wood putty. Sand the stile and the backer with medium grit sandpaper. 8. Apply a Danish oil finish to the stile now to prevent oil from getting on the face of the miters. Dispose of oiled rags in a bucket of water to prevent spontaneous combustion. 9. Once the finish dries, cut the boards to desired length in four pieces using the miter saw. The ends can then be cut at 45 degrees. 10. Using the measurements from the boards, the backer can be cut to size with the table saw. 11. Lay the backer on top of the glass. Using the marker, trace the edges of the backer onto the glass. 12. Wearing glove, dip the tip of the glass cutter into oil, then roll the cutter along the line on the glass in one pass. 13. Turn the glass over so the traced line falls just over the edge of your work bench. Lift the glass up, then snap it down onto the table. The glass should break along the line. 14. Polyurethane glue is water activated, so dampen the miters and secure three of the four pieces together using polyurethane glue, ensuring the dado cut lines up on all three sides. Before the glue sets, finish securing the pieces with brad nails. Do not secure the fourth side yet. 15. Spray the angled cuts and apply the glue to the fourth side. Slide the glass through the dado cuts, then secure the fourth side to the rest of the frame. 16. Use a strap clamp around the box to keep it tight until the glue dries. 17. Screw the back panel to the frame with small wood screws through the rabbeted section of the frame. Resources: Most of the tools used for this project including safety gear, plate glass, glass cutters, and sandpaper can be purchased at a home center. Tom made his own wood filler using Gorilla Wood Glue and sawdust. He held the box together with Clear Gorilla Glue. Both of these are manufactured by Gorilla Glue (http://www.gorillatough.com) For a finish, Tom and Kevin applied a rub on Danish oil manufactured by Watco, a division of Rustoleum (http://www.rustoleum.com). This project was intended to be made with an already owned, extra door in a house, but antique doors can also be purchased from reclaimed lumber yards. Remove current door from its hinges by popping up the pins with a hammer and nailset. 2. Remove the old jamb and casing with a pry bar. 3. To level the jamb, place a piece of poplar on the floor and make it level. Set your scribes the overall width of the filler and drag the scribes along the piece of poplar. 4. After marking the poplar, cut it with the circular saw, following the scribe line you traced. 5. Using wood glue, glue the poplar filler piece to the underside of the doorjamb to fill the gap. 6. Repeat the same steps to fill the back side of the jamb. 7. Move the jamb from the door kit into place. Using a 6-foot level, check that it’s plumb; if it needs adjusting, place shims between the jamb and the wall studs until the jamb is plumb. Drill through the jamb and shims, and secure with screws. 8. Using a utility knife and a hammer, remove the excess shims on either side. 9. Lift up the bookshelf and place in the pre-fashioned pivot-point pinholes on the top and bottom of the jamb. 10. Glue trim to the jamb and secure with finishing nails. How to Build a Simple Built in Wardrobe
We are going to show you how to build a simple DIY built in wardrobe using plasterboard and a steel framing system which will look like it's always been there. This built in wardrobe is one of my favorite projects. It really does improve the functionality of the room. And it blends perfectly. The great thing about using steel framing and plasterboard is that it is cheap, light, simple to cut so the whole job is fast and easy. The metal door frame is also a simple way to hang the doors. Much easier than building you own door frame. http://nutsandboltsdiy.com/how-to-build-a-simple-built-in-wardrobe/

Glass Cabinet Doors - How They Are Made & Cabinet Door Styles
Learn more about our Cabinet Doors Styles, including our Glass Cabinet Doors and how they are made https://www.cabinetdoors.com/pages/glass-cabinet-doors.html or https://www.cabinetdoor.com/glass-cabinet-doors This video will cover the types of Glass Kitchen Cabinet Doors and how glass cabinet doors are made. We’ll show both Mitered and Cope & Stick designs and how they are modified to accept glass in the place of raised or recessed panels. Hi, my name’s Brady, and I’ll explain how we make Glass Cabinet Doors, and walk through the various design choices. First I’ll show the frame components for Cope & Stick doors. The picture above-right shows the Cope & Stick stiles and rails as they are machined to secure a raised or recessed panel. The arrow is pointing at the lip on the back of the frame pieces. Panel doors are assembled with the panel edge sliding into the groove in the frame. The back lip then locks the panel in place. Now look at the picture at lower right. These Cope & Stick rails don’t have the lip. Mitered Glass Doors use the same assembly methods as the Cope & Stick designs. The picture at top right shows the stiles and rails for a Mitered Panel Door. Again, notice the lip which locks the panel in place. Now see the picture at bottom right. These Mitered frame components have the lip removed. Wonder why we don’t assemble glass doors with the glass held in place by the lip, like we do with panel doors? There are a few reasons. The first is the possibility of damage as the assembled door passes through several very large edging and sanding machines. Then there is the increased possibility of shipping damage. But the most important reason for shipping glass doors without the lip is the ability for the end user to install the glass after the door is painted or stained. Installing the glass into the glass door is easy. Simply place the glass into the frame from the back, and secure with a bead of silicone caulk. If you ever need to replace the glass just cut-away the silicone caulk, replace the glass, and re-apply the caulk. We’ve produced lots of How-To Videos, like this one.
