Your lips and mouth might start to itch, burn, or puff up slightly the moment you touch the stuff, or you might get blisters in the back of your throat. Someone looking at you won't notice this happening, but you'll definitely feel it. The minute the milk hits your stomach, you might get stomach spasms (yes, spasms) and/or searing heartburn, which REALLY HURTS, and unless you're doubled over in pain or spitting up-- which you may or may not be, depending on the day-- you can't really explain it to people, so you start to think maybe its just normal to feel this way. Within 24 hours, you might start to get rough, scaly patches of skin on your face or body. If you're a baby, your butt might turn flaming red. If you're lucky, these will resemble rashes, and someone will say "food allergy." If you're NOT lucky, the doctor will say you have eczema and prescribe something, or your parents will waste money on every brand of diaper and cream on the market, trying to get rid of your red butt... which comes and goes, by the way, so good luck problem solving it. The milk protein may trigger a migraine, with pain and nausea, but you're a baby, and doctors don't even know if you can GET a migraine yet, so you deal with it. Within 1-3 days your eyes and/or sinuses may get red, itchy, inflamed, and mucous-y. The doctor will say you have allergies and prescribe a pill... well, they're half right, but the pills won't help, so you'll just start to think you get sick a lot, or you'll blame it on daycare, or teething. As the milk works its way through you colon, it might trigger an inflammatory response, and you might feel raw/achy, as if you had a "head cold" down there, accompanied by sharp stabbing pains, when two inflamed parts get pushed against each other.Read more ›.
