Horse Eye Wash & Care - Human Medicine vs Equine -Part 2 - Rick Gore Horsemanship

07:01
http://www.thinklikeahorse.org/ In part 1, I talk about eyewash and different types. Here I will be actually putting it in the horse's eye. I talk about sand, dust, sun, hay and pollen that can irritate horse's eyes. This wash will help make your horse feel better and keep the eye healthy. DO NOT USE JUST WATER TO "OVER WASH" THE EYE. IDIOT WARNING NOTICE: Things like eye wash and other external medicines may be used on horses but NOT ALL human medicine work on horses. The comments have turned into a medical review, to why Walmart buys from China. As I say in many videos and on my release, DO NOT SUBSTITUTE MY OPINION FOR YOUR OWN. Your horse, your responsibility. I cannot cover ever example that seems important to every viewer. Here is link to Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdUxlw7NcNU There are hidden barn witches in this video, watch for the clue to where they are.

Ouch, What Bit Me? How to Identify Common Bug Bites and What To Do About It

02:52
Everyone’s been bitten by insects like mosquitoes, ticks, and bees. Sometimes, knowing what kind of insect bit us can be helpful, to know how to lessen the pain, swelling, and itchiness. With that in mind, we’re going to show you five of the most common insect bites, their symptoms, and how they should be treated. 1.Mosquito bites Normally the area around the bite turns red and swells. They can also cause minor irritation and become itchy. To relieve the urge to itch, put a little lotion or alcohol on the bite and massage the area. However, if you feel pain in your joints, fever, swollen lymph nodes or other more severe symptoms, you should see a doctor immediately. If that happens, you might've been bitten by a mosquito that was carrying a dangerous poison. 2. Flea Bites Normally fleas leave three or four red dots on your skin. These little bumps can be really itchy, so the first thing you should do is apply calamine lotion or coconut oil to help with that. Avoid scratching these areas so as not to damage your skin. 3. Bed bug bites These little bugs are crafty and their bite can have different effects on different people. Some people, for example, can be bitten and not feel anything. Others, however, may suffer from an allergic reaction and experience swelling, itchiness and dermatitis. You can wash the affected area with soap and water, but you should still make it a point to see a doctor. 4. Spider bites Technically spiders are not bugs (they’re arachnids) , but we decided to include them because spider bites are very common. Most of the time, spider bites are harmless, but there are some exceptions, such as the black widow or the brown recluse, whose bites can have serious consequences. If a spider bites you, wash the area with soap and water. Next, apply ice. If the swelling continues, see a doctor immediately. 5. Tick bites Ticks are also not insects. Just like spiders, ticks are arachnids. They’re normally found on horses, dogs, and cats. They are so dangerous that their bite could cause serious diseases, such as Lyme disease. Tick bites leave a large red ring on your skin. First, you must remove the tick with a pair of tweezers. Don't put any oil on the affected area and keep it away from heat. All you need to do is wash your skin with soap and water. Then go see a doctor to make sure you don’t have any major diseases. Conjunctivitis: Eye Discharge...Wait for it.....

If you're waking up with crust on your eyes and/or stringy discharge, you may have Conjunctivitis. A couple weeks of medication will take care of the problem. I was prescribed fluorometholone - http://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-12354-185/fluorometholone-ophthalmic/fluorometholone-suspension---ophthalmic/details . If you wear contacts as I do, you should wait at least 15 minutes after instilling one drop in each eye before putting your contacts in or you will have to throw them out and get a new pair. When Horses Attack

10:50
When horses attack - the dangers of a horse kicking! These terrifying incidents brought horse riders to the hospital. Subscribe for new videos: http://goo.gl/SaufF4 Follow us on Instagram: @theywillkillyou Voiceover by Carl Mason: carlito1705@icloud.com What is it? Equus ferus caballus or the common horse is a hoofed mammal, also known as an ungulate that belongs to the Equidae family. Horses are characterized by elongated heads, thick long necks that feature long-haired manes, muscular torsos, short body hair and long tails. They’re herbivores whose diet consists of grass and other plantlife. Male horses are known as stallions while female’s are known as mares. There’s over 400 breeds of horse in the world, from hoof to shoulder they can stand up to 6ft and weigh over 2000 pounds and reach speeds of between 20 to 35 miles per hour with the fastest recorded gallop over a short distance being 43.97 miles per hour. 4 Christopher Reeve Star of four Superman movies, actor Christopher Reeve became a quadriplegic following a horse riding accident that took place during an equestrian competition. Reeve first become involved with horse riding in 1985 after learning to ride for the film Anna Karenina. Despite being allergic to horses he soon overcame his allergy and by 1989 he was taking part in riding events. In 1995 he rode his thoroughbred horse, nicknamed ‘Buck’, in an event at Culpeper, Virginia. After placing fourth of 27 in dressage, Reeve entered the cross-country course. Where is it located? The evolution of the horse as we know it today began around 50 million years ago and they’ve been domesticated for at least 5,000 years. Throughout time they have been used in agriculture, transportation, sports and entertainment. The idea of wild horses refers to domesticated populations that live in the wild as feral horses. These feral specimens are not truly ‘wild’ as they’ve been previously domesticated. The endangered Przewalski's horse, another subspecies of the Equus genus, is the only remaining wild horse species. Because of domestication, horses are found on every continent around the world, with the exception of Antarctica. 3 Cassy Finch Having always had a passion for riding, 23-year-old Cassy Finch from Phoenix, USA, adopted a retired race horse in 2014 and named him Andretti, after racing driver Mario Andretti. She adopted the 6-year-old stallion. On the 16th of July, Ms. Finch took Andretti for a walk. He became startled when a jogger passed by, and, unfortunately, Ms. Finch held on to him and ended up in his blind spot. Andretti kicked out and struck Ms. Finch in the head which, according to her, sent her ‘flying’.A passer-by called the emergency services and Ms. Finch was taken to the hospital. The kick left Cassy with a fractured skull, brain swelling, a crushed sinus bone and a broken nose. Despite the many benefits that they bring us, horses are still big powerful animals. Horses have a blind spot behind them. Depending on where and the force of the kick, long term damage is possible. Kicks are not the only possible outcome of interactions between horses and people, as there’ve been cases of horses trampling people. 2 Jocelyne Campos 19-year-old Jocelyne Campos sustained multiple blunt force injuries as a result of the fall. The teen and her friends were riding near Echo Lake when something startled the horse causing it to throw Ms. Campos to the ground. A report from the Centers of Disease Control noted that her injuries were consistent with around 60% of fatalities from horse riding incidents. Most trainers would agree that respecting what the horse is capable of and understanding what an interaction with it implies are key elements towards ensuring a safe experience. The concepts that most trainers operate with are ‘respect’ and ‘control’. There are, however, tips that beginners may benefit from as well. You should always start working with a horse that is calm and quiet. Loud noises or sudden moves are not recommended as this may cause the horse to kick out or jump sideways. Leading a horse should be performed with a halter and lead rope and you should never tie yourself to the animal in any way. 1 Bonnie Armitage On the 2nd of April 2016, 9-year-old Bonnie Armitage was taking part in a trail while riding her Shetland pony. The schoolgirl was a competent and experienced rider and had reportedly first sat on a pony when she was six weeks old. She was equipped with a riding hat as well as a body and shoulder protector. She was also under the supervision of a family member. Around 50 riders took part in the event. Bonnie’s pony approached a bigger horse, ridden by circus boss Toti Gifford.

Here is a video that helps you check your horse's back and know what the points mean. knowing how to assess means to can either treat your own horse or know if the therapist that did was successful. But most importantly it brings you closer to understanding your horse. My name is Christian Langeder from http://thoroughperformance.com . I am an equine soft tissue therapist specialising in the physical care of performance horses. I have been treating animals since 1999.I work with horses in all manner of sport including Racing, Eventing, Dressage and Polo. After treating horses for many years I realised that not many owners knew if their horses were sore, they only knew that they felt "off". When speaking to my veterinary colleagues and trainers I found that they also weren't clear on how to simply assess a treatable soft tissue injury or restriction. I would like to share some of these with you in this video series. http://thoroughperformance.com http://www.facebook.com/ThoroughPerformance

Horse saved from slaughter treated for eye ulcer

00:49
We saved Everest and Romeo from slaughter in January. Recently Everest's right eye started weeping clear tears. There was no swelling, so we gave it a day to see if it was just allergies or something simple. Of course, if you own a horse, you know nothing is ever simple or inexpensive. The eye was fine the next day, then weeping again. No goop, no swelling. Every time we'd go to call the vet, it would dry up again. After about a week of tears and dry, tears and dry, he started squinting, so I called the vet. Sure enough, he had an ulcer. No idea what caused it and whatever it was, it was gone. We've been treating him with Bantamine, Atropine and Neomycin & Polymyxin Sulfates and bacitracin zinc ointment four times a day. This is the fifth day, and it appears to be clearing up. You can see how huge his pupil is from the Atropine drops. Everyone says it, and I should've listened, if it involves the eyes, call a vet. Yes, I was out $250, but it's better than having a horse dodge slaughter, just to go blind in one eye. Everest's life has already been hard enough. Thankfully, he'll be fine. Grass pollen is a major seasonal allergy trigger, which can make it hard to enjoy parks and even your own lawn. This year, you may be able to minimize the effects of grass pollen by following these seasonal allergy tips. Seasonal allergies can make lawn mowing and breezy weather miserable. There are hundreds of different types of grass, and while only a few species trigger allergies, these allergenic grasses are not uncommon. There are some basic things that you can do to help manage outdoor allergies, like being mindful of when there is a high pollen count, so that you can stay indoors and avoid some allergy symptoms. Over-the-counter medications can also provide you with relief. For example, Benadryl® Allergy products temporarily relieve the symptoms (sneezing, runny nose, itchy, watery eyes, itchy nose or throat) of upper respiratory allergies, such as hay fever. This may help you get back to maintaining your lawn or spending time in grassy parks. During the grass pollination season, there are some additional lifestyle changes you can make that may minimize your exposure to grass allergens (including modifications to your lawn design). Watch this video to learn more.

Understanding and Treating Canine Allergies

04:44
Over a lifetime, chronic allergies can make dogs irritable and depleted, with low-level infections constantly breaking out on their skin, feet, and in their ears; worn front teeth (from chewing themselves); and smelly, sparse coats. Chronic allergies can also deplete an owner's time and money - especially if the owner fails to take effective action. Nancy Kerns, Editor of the Whole Dog Journal discusses how to best understand canine allergies and effective measures a dog owner can take.

Horse-fly bites and wounds me: an experiment and explanation

01:53
Horse-fly bites and wounds me: an experiment and explanation - I allow a vampire-like horse-fly to bite my hand wounding me to show what can happen. I strongly recommend not performing this experiment because there are horse-flies in certain parts of the world that are carriers of disease. For those horse-flies that do not carry disease, though rare, it is still possible for certain individuals to suffer a case of life-threatening anaphylactic shock from what would otherwise be a "benign" bite. How to cure Pink Eye (conjunctivitis) at home

02:01
How to cure Pink Eye (conjunctivitis) at home Here is the definition of Pink Eye: "Classification can be either by cause or by extent of the inflamed area. By cause[edit] Allergic conjunctivitis, caused by allergens such as pollen, perfumes, cosmetics, smoke,[4] dust mites, Balsam of Peru (used in food and drink for flavoring, in perfumes and toiletries for fragrance, and in medicine and pharmaceutical items for healing properties),[5] and eye drops[6] A patch test is used to diagnose it and identify the causative allergen.[7] Bacterial conjunctivitis Viral conjunctivitis Chemical conjunctivitis Neonatal conjunctivitis is often defined separately due to different organisms Autoimmune By extent of involvement[edit] Blepharoconjunctivitis is the dual combination of conjunctivitis with blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids). Keratoconjunctivitis is the combination of conjunctivitis and keratitis (corneal inflammation). Signs and symptoms[edit] Red eye (hyperaemia), swelling of conjunctiva (chemosis) and watering (epiphora) of the eyes are symptoms common to all forms of conjunctivitis. However, the pupils should be normally reactive, and the visual acuity normal. Viral[edit] Viral conjunctivitis is often associated with an infection of the upper respiratory tract, a common cold, and/or a sore throat. Its symptoms include excessive watering and itching. The infection usually begins with one eye, but may spread easily to the other. Viral conjunctivitis shows a fine, diffuse pinkness of the conjunctiva, which is easily mistaken for the ciliary injection of iritis, but there are usually corroborative signs on microscopy, particularly numerous lymphoid follicles on the tarsal conjunctiva, and sometimes a punctate keratitis. Some other viruses that can infect the eye include Herpes simplex virus and Varicella zoster.[8] Allergic[edit] An eye with allergic conjunctivitis Allergic conjunctivitis is inflammation of the conjunctiva (the membrane covering the white part of the eye) due to allergy.[9] Allergens differ among patients. Symptoms consist of redness (mainly due to vasodilation of the peripheral small blood vessels), oedema (swelling) of the conjunctiva, itching, and increased lacrimation (production of tears). If this is combined with rhinitis, the condition is termed "allergic rhinoconjunctivitis". The symptoms are due to release of histamine and other active substances by mast cells, which stimulate dilation of blood vessels, irritate nerve endings, and increase secretion of tears." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conjunctivitis

AT. Breathing while lunged 5-14-13 (updated 4-2016)

06:45
A.T.'s condition was eventually determined to be a combination of 3 issues: 1. IAD 2. deviated septum - kicked in head by 1400# broodmare when young stud 3. intermittent soft palate displacement. IAD treated with FlexiNeb nebulizer with different solutions depending on allergies (saline soln, Dexamethasone, etc.) Deviated septum was determined NOT to contribute significantly to airway restriction after exam at UT Knoxville internationally known specialist, James Schumacher, DVM (greatly indebted to expert knowledge & excellent care by this fantastic vet and facility) Soft Palate Displacement was corrected with a tie-forward procedure that was a significant improvement and was successfully completed by Chad Baumwart, DVM (former student of Dr. Schumacher) - horse still has noisy breathing due his individual physiology but he can breath better so long as extreme collection is avoided On 5-12-13: This video shows A.T. still wheezing after 2-weeks treatment of Flovent through inhaler then 30-days treatment with Ventipulmin. He's snorting at other horses while he moves to show off, not coughing. After a 10-minute recovery period, his respiration is still rapid as the second video shows. There is a third video that also shows A.T.'s wheezing before any of the above mentioned treatments began. A.T. has allergies which make springtime and early summer very troublesome. In Spring of 2011, watery eyes from allergies led to eye rubbing to aa torn cornea where fungal infection led to abscess. Thankfully the eye was saved with a corneal fibrosis (white scar) remaining. A.T. develops hives in reaction to Banamine (injected and oral), certain vaccinations, sedative compounds (use only pure Dormosedan, very sedated at .6 mL) with no reversals.

Head Compression and Injury Attributes to Spookiness in Horses 1

00:55
Before Treatment: This video was taken of a horse who was brought to a Equine CranioSacral workshop in the UK to be treated. The horse would spook in open pastures and buck/rear. After doing the initial assessment before treatment, i noticed an old head injury to the left frontal bone..in this video we show the lack of response in the horse when waving the lead in front of the left eye and when rotating the head the eye does not move with the cranium! Very different response on the right side- the eye turns with the head! Many times spookiness is perceived as a behaviour issue however looking for compression in the bones can make all the difference!

Head shaking and spooking horses - Equine Cranial Sacral Issues DVD and classes

02:19
Please visit http://www.holistichorseworks.com/page5.php Also on my store page I have a 'Horses with Headaches" DVD to help you help your horse! Horses that are 'head shakers', hard to bridle, spooky, flighty, auto immune, Insulin Resistant, Cushings and especially Uveitis or moon blindness are all horses that have had a past head trauma or sever 'pull back' when tied issue. This is all reversable. Please please use a rope with stretch or tie to something that has some give like a tie block. So much damage is done to the cranial bones when the halter hooks on the back of the Occiput and the horse is struggling with all their strength and these bones are then compressed down and forward into the horses' brain cavity. This also compressed the Hypothalamus organ which tells the body what to do with extra calories and carbs. Uveitis is the Lacrimal bone has shifted compressing the nerve to the eye and lack of oxygen and blood flow to the organ causes throbbing when the horse is worked. Then the horse rubs their head on their foreleg where the toxic chemical fly spray is usually, putting toxins into an already unhealthy organ. We shift the bones back to place of origin and detox the eye and the Vets say the Uveitis symptoms have cleared up. Auburn CA Most horses are 'mis labeled' as horses with training or behavioral issues

Splash fed on Stance coconut meal and recovers from symptoms of PSSM

05:15
Splash is my 4yo Quarter Horse/ arab gelding who suffers PSSM1. Splash was asymptomatic until approx 6 months ago when he started showing symptoms due to a change in diet. As you know, I got some great information from one of your Powerstance team members on FB which led me to your Brisbane office. The attached photos show before and after. I'm sure I don't need to tell you which are the 'before' and which are the 'after', that is clear in the photos. I have also added a few photos of him BEFORE he ever started tying up. As you can see from those, he was in great condition prior to becoming symptomatic. His weight dropped off quickly over a matter of 6-8 weeks of regular PSSM related tying up episodes and I have no doubt this was due to the stress and pain involved. Thank you Sharon Dow Chairman ACTRA Brisbane
