Well if abused, they do puff, just like a lipo, but after I spent some time trying to resuscitate a puffed LiFe transmitter battery, I eventually decided to subject it to significant electrical and physical insult -- to see if I could make it vent flame and smoke like lipos do. As you can see in the video, although two of the cells were charged and significant current was forced into the faulty cell, it did not ignite -- although the wiring did burn for a short while. Perhaps not totally conclusive but a pretty good indicator that LiFe packs are safer than lipos -- although the number of lipo-related transmitter fires remains very, very small.

Here’s an example, using a 10Ah 5C rated battery. 10Ah – 5C. 10 Amps (Ah capacity) x 5 (C-rating) = 50 amps continuous discharge. This means that you can safely draw up to 50 amps continuously from that 36V 10Ah 5C battery without doing damage to your battery. Dr. Wang said that the Government sponsored Project 863 has groups working on two different chemistries for batteries: maganese and iron phosphate. I first heard of Project 863 in 2004 at a Challenge Bibendum event. Even then they were working on green vehicles for the Olympics. At the Olympics there were more than 300 electric vehicles. China is not yet beholden to the internal combustion engine. China has recently started setting fuel-economy rules and looking for ways to clean the air and lessen the dependence on oil. China has a program called the 863 program. It is a five year program with a budget of $108 million for electric vehicle research and development. The Institute of Automobile Electronic Technology is undertaking research under the National 863 program of China. Some of the development issues they are working on are: *The Development of the QR Pure Electric Car. My Nickel Iron Battery Solar Setup...

This is my nickel iron solar setup... its a 12v 10 cell array using a normal 300w panel and a mppt charger to lead acid battery... but that's powering a dc to dc charger turning a 12v supply to a 14v battery charge voltage... this a completely temporary setup... I would be getting a outback inverter charger to set the correct battery voltages and possible solar mppt charger (outback version as they seem to allow you to set charging voltages up to 17v) In theory I could use a dc to dc converter to turn the 30 plus Volts from the solar panel to a charging voltage of 14.5v but I made the mistake of buying a boost converter... There are many different dc to dc converters and I brought the wrong one... Make sure to buy a buck converter or dc to dc step down converter, to step down 30v to a usable 14.5 battery charge voltage... More available to the market. Lots of regulatory controls driving demand. Legislating to restrict fossil fuels. All of these factors are fantastic for Kodal Minerals. There is however a large supply gap. The main suppliers of Lithium Ion are Chile (Brine deposits) and Australia (hard deposits).   Their project in Mali is a high grade, hard rock project. Mainly an outcropping at the moment, but showing continuous mineralisation. Kodal have a strong chance to move quickly to an open pit scenario. They are very fortunate at the moment, and have demonstrated great continuity.   They have kicked off a large drilling programme. Bernard expects to be drilling until march, but it is likely it could last until June/July. This will give a huge insight in to the extent of the deposit. They are currently doing a bulk shipment of the deposit send to china for testing. This will give a big insight in to processing plant and quality of the deposit. Bernard cannot say when they will start the open pit; but they are doing a lot of work now to reduce lead time in the future.   They recently added a new addition to the share holder listing in Suay Chin International Pte. They are now well funded for exactly what they need to do. The new shareholder is a Singapore based company with great contacts in the Chinese Lithium Carbonate market.
