Bipolar Meds: The Side Effects + What I'm On :) | Lithium. Lamictal. Prozac. Duloxetine, etc.

These are all the psychiatric drugs I've taken for Depression and Bipolar Disorder. The side effects going onto each drug and increasing the dosage are really awful and made me sick all the time. But I LOVE the result and it's worth fighting through all the acne, exhaustion, flu-like symptoms, dehydration, etc. I have Bipolar 2 and experience mostly depressive episodes with lighter hypomanic times. DEPRESSION SCREENING TEST: http://healingfromdepression.com/depression-screening-test.htm My Story My name is Noah and on May 18 2011, I had a rare reaction to a vaccine called VIVITROL and consequently spiraled into a major, agitated, suicidal depression with depersonalization. I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and was in full panic or near panic for 8 weeks straight mixed with the darkest most painful depression I cold have ever imagined. I immediately could not work and had to move in with my parents who along with many siblings and friends had to watch me 24/7 as I was so suicidal. I was eventually hospitalized. Getting through each day seemed truly unbearable and I knew I would surely die. I have been put on many many different SSRI's SNRI's Tricyclics, Mood stabilizers, anti psychotics, holistic meds, acupuncture and even a form of shock therapy called RTMS. I barely saw any improvement in my condition for a full year. It was decided I had treatment resistant depression and I spent nearly every moment in tears. Weeks after starting my newest round of medications (Seroquel & Nortryptaline) as a last ditch effort, I had my blood drawn for possible hormone imbalances and my Testosterone levels came back 200 ng/Dl and 150 ng/Dl. The average 25 year old male has 750 ng/Dl. With this discovery I for the first time had any type of possible explanation as to why I was not getting better and why I might be so so sick. The symptoms of such Low T are very similar to those of major depression. I started Testosterone replacement therapy soon after and have been checking in with the world and documenting my experience with treatment as well as giving my insight and perspective on various topics of mental health. I am blessed to say that I have slowly, over the last year and 10 months, been improving and becoming more stable which I never thought to be possible. My low T manifested itself in the form of Major depression, anxiety, and depersonalization/ derealization for over a year. Gaining some mental stability back is nothing short of a miracle as I was near death for what felt like forever. I do not consider myself to be totally healed yet but I am closer now then ever before and aim to use what I have been through to help or at least offer support to others in need I was able to successfully come off my Seroquel and Pamelor. I work out all the time as a part of my mental health recovery!!! Weight training and all kinds of cardio rule much of my free time!

Seroquel Serious Side Effects

08:58
I was prescribed Seroquel for Anxiety as well as a possible mood disorder. I had HORRIBLE side effects from Seroquel. I gained over 10 pounds in a week, felt like I had the flu constantly, had horrible headaches, felt like my blood sugar was out of whack, super sleepy but couldn't sleep still, joint pain and swelling, and numbness with tingling in my feet. Then, I woke up to find my face swollen along with 3+ pitting edema in both legs. The Doctor had me stop the Seroquel instantly without weaning down and didn't have me on anything for 3.5 weeks. I felt crazier than I have ever felt in my entire life. I keep on fighting and I know that any of you going through any sort of mental illness can do so too!

I am still in a state of shock that he suggested lithium however my doctor is very cautious and caring and i know for a fact he would only want whats best for me and i can genuinely say that. So yeah lots to think about!! Any personal experiences from you guys would be appreciated if you feel up for sharing. I will admit i am scared! - Jessy x

Why I won't continue with this medication for my bipolar after only taking 2 doses (in addition to Lamictal which HAS proven to work well for me with an antidepressant). I don't say nobody should take it, because not everything works the same for everyone, but this is DEFINITELY not for me. I work three jobs - honestly, do I look fit to work at even ONE job like this?

Have Bipolar Disorder? You're Screwed Whether You Take Meds Or Not

14:01
So I talked to my psychiatrist today... I am seriously considering going off meds but it's scary. The meds / no meds thing is such a hotly debated topic, and I don't see a lot of role models on the no-medication side, and a LOT of people I don't want to be like, so I am angsty and freaked out about it... Trigeminal Neuralgia Zombie Pain Sickness

00:52
Trigeminal Neuralgia is a pain affliction that causes nearly insufferable devastation to its victims. It can come on without warning, and make daily tasks a nightmare. Things like applying sunscreen, washing your face, even a small breeze or simply brushing your teeth can awaken the beast of the trigeminal nerve. The pain ranges from stabbing, burning, throbbing to aching and electric shocks. It may last seconds or hours. It may come and go for days, weeks, months or years and then disappear for a time, only to resurface at some later date. In this video, I've used effects to illustrate how this pain feels to me. Of course there are options for treatment, everything from medications to brain surgery to injections, gamma knife and more. For now I choose to live through it best that I can, using coping tools gained from a university pain clinic. I've certainly tried the pills, but the side effects left me unable to perform basic math or speak the right words for objects right in front of me. And then there were the tremors...so like I said, I plan to just get through this. My heart goes out to others who are struggling with this or other difficult conditions. I want you to know you're not alone.

6 yrs psych drug free: How I made it through the darkest times of protracted withdrawal syndrome

12:17
For more see the post on Beyond Meds: http://beyondmeds.com/2016/02/09/6years-off/ Today is my anniversary off a huge psych drug cocktail I'd been on for 20 years. Below the video I made for this occasion is a cut and paste collection of the now 6 years documented since the also six year withdrawal process. http://beyondmeds.com/2010/01/10/recap-6-drugs-6-years-2/ In the video I speak to the inner resources that kept me going. I want to add here that I also was privileged to have a safe home and 24/7 hour care when I was bedridden and unable to leave the house for anything at all. Both the home and the care were provided for me by my husband. No one else in my life, including most of my close family had a clue what we were dealing with. I have to believe if they did they would have done more. The fact is there is nothing in society to help those who love us to understand what we are going through. There is a general denial by the medical establishment that this can even happen. This is something I’ve mostly been able to forgive but I don’t necessarily feel ready to spend much time with most of my family either. My mother is an exception here…she stayed in touch with my husband throughout the whole thing and was willing to do what she could. Indeed she often helped us stay afloat financially, which was, of course, critically important to staying alive. (I couldn’t speak very well for a couple of years so communicating by phone was out) So, my husband and I came through this together. There were many times I would have preferred to be alone given how heinously isolating this experience was simply by nature of the fact that no one can even begin to fathom what we are going through… This fact was painful for both me and Paul in different ways. For more info see: The isolation and sense of abandonment many people deal with when sick with protracted withdrawal illness. http://wp.me/P5nnb-3xy Those of us who have experienced protracted psychiatric drug withdrawal syndromes will always be the only ones who can give each other that acknowledgment. And it’s likely we will continue to freak out pretty much everyone around us when it’s at it’s worst. Anyway, the fact is I would be dead without Paul’s care and so that needs to be made clear as well. He has a deep trust and faith in life too and I wouldn’t have made it without his unusual ability to maintain that in the face of what I went through. Most people would have had me institutionalized, where I certainly would have died. It is a miracle that my husband could hold this space for me. Seriously a miracle. Most folks who come off these drugs don’t become as totally disabled as I did and can still leave the house etc. Not so for me and so, yes, my husband literally kept me alive and provided the space for me to literally disintegrate so that I could come back together again as well. One other person was a visitor during those darkest times. A woman who has become my dear friend. Sent to me from a volunteer organization to give me reiki, she could stand being with me as a witness when no one else could. Mary Joy had spent time as a chaplain in hospice and so knew how to be with people in pain. She told me once that she hadn’t seen another human being in all her time as chaplain who had to go through such an ordeal. She was completely serious. Having myself worked in hospice I know this to be true as well. It wasn’t something I would ever have concluded on my own, but since she said it and it rings true (I’ve worked in hospice too), I share it here now. April 21, 2004 Seizures, Convulsions, Brain Body Damage pt11

10:34
these ones hard to see because of white light, sheets and top - this was non-stop for months eveyday. I was brain/body damaged repeatedly in 2003 from prescribed medications. I had severe withdrawls for months, I had been on 1 since prior 1993 Imovane at high doses. I have CFIDS and FM and was repeatedly misdiagnised and over medicated. I went through severe withdrawls for many months, with seizures and myoclonic convulsions everyday until I paralize if they were not brought under control fast enough. As seizure medications were involved in the brain damage, lamictal, valproic acid, tegrotel, as well as other medications, they could not give these to me again, they caused too much pressure on my brain and my muscles and ligaments would stiffen and shorten drastically again. My brain, body damage was not put on my medical records until possibly some of it in 2005, I am not sure how much or what, my left side of body is weak and drags around on and off, this happened while coming off the drugs and my speech was affected for a 2nd time the first after the lamictal. It still flucates drastically. After positive light test for seizures disappeared from medical records, and this was just after being released from hosptial they refused to stablize them and left like this for month after month, still have them, and muscle ligament damage has worsend,, did drastically much more after this very quickly, it varies depending if on anything to relax them, dyskenisa has spread throughout my body face, hands, feet, neck, drug induced parkinsons, myocolinic convulsions I wake up to every day as well, sometimes I can not hold my head up. I can not lift very much or walk far in home, use wheelchair sometimes, not wheelchair accessable, looking at this I wondering what I am on that my walking looks so good and fluid not stiff as a board, maybe the saline pumped up with and the meds at the time, think mention them

Vid 2 Benzodiazepines Started Withdrawal at Doctor's Orders Day 5 of 4mg to 3mg, Not Well

04:42
September 24, 2017 Hi friends, I am much too sick to type out much at all. It's all in the video. Actually, I'll just type it with my voice. I don't know what to do because I don't have enough medication to titrate down properly. This right here what you see is exactly what my doctor has ordered for me. To go from from 4mg of Klonopin in 1 month to 3 mg the next month and then to 2mg the next month. It is much too fast and I will not be able to make it through this. He pretty much just laughed at me when I gave him the paperwork from Doctor Heather Ashton. I only gave him like 4 pages which was basic information on how to withdraw a person safely so that they do not die. And the dangers of doing it too fast, etc. Not the entire manual. He first told me he would not read it and that it is his decision to do this to me. Then I asked once the appointment was over if he would please come up please read what I gave him. He said in front of the social worker that he would read. Would appreciate prayers and any advice about how to get a doctor to get me stabilized back at the 4 mg where I was doing just fine. Thank you, Tam XO

Small Pills (a poem)

01:46
*I posted this earlier as part of my Honesty and Psychiatry post, but I had a suggestion to post this by itself, so "you wouldn't have to get to the end of that other post to get the candy". Small Pills Take this small pill, it will make you feel good I call it Paxil , in two weeks you'll feel like you should Whats that you say? You're flaccid and tired Zonked out for twelve hours and still feel expired Now try this Zoloft, it's sure to help you Just take a pill in the morning and then next week take two You read the warning and now you're fearful? Don't be, my boy Zoloft will make you cheerful Ten days later and you're feeling manic? All frantically panicking up in your attic I tell you what, lets try something old This Prozac pill will make you feel bold I'll add some Neurontin and Ativan to boot These three together are one certain route You'll be feeling better in no time at all Happy and Dandy, like you're eleven feet tall It's not addictive, I promise you true Not many street drugs can say that to you Not quite the way? Is that what you say? Ok, ok, we'll try something different today Try this new pill, I call it Risperdone You don't like this either cause you feel like a drone? Listen, my boy, you're sick and you're ill you've got to be eating some kind of pill Lithium, Lamictal, Adderall, Zyprexa Pramipexole, Scopolamine and then there's Celexa You've run out of options I give up on you stop complaining and crying and saying boo hoo Admit that you're sick and need medication just think of it as part of your daily ration So you give up and tell me "no more" You'll be back, I know it, I'm sure You won't survive, you surely won't thrive in fact, I'll be surprised if next year you're alive Small pills I've got, they will make you feel good happy and cheerful, like everyone should

My Neurontin (Rehab Wheel) from Pathways

04:40
This is a little we wrote to the tune of Wagon Wheel while in our rehab inpatient stay at Pathways in Annapolis, Maryland. It was a fun way to pass the time as a group of the patients came together and decided to write this and it pretty much became our little group anthem by the time we graduated our program. The lyrics are listen below: Verse 1: Headed down to Pathways, I lost my mind, Stumblin' my way through the ol' lunch line. Starin' at the steps and pray to God I get high. I made it up the steps in 17 hours, I need to ask the nurse for some soap for the shower. And I was hopin' for Valium so I could see my ankles tonight. Chorus: So help me nurses so I can heal, Find me Suboxone that I can steal, Hey my Neurontin. Help me nurses to stop the pain, I know in driving you all insane. Hey my Neurontin. Verse 2: Sleeping through the groups up in the men's room, Afraid I'll miss my break if I don't get up soon. I don't think I'll get far without my drugs now. Tryin' to keep my head up when everyone's around. I owed my dope dealer money so I had to leave town. But I won't call him up, I ain't paying him no more. Chorus: So help me nurses so I can heal, Find me Suboxone that I can steal, Hey my Neurontin. Help me nurses to stop the pain, I know in driving you all insane. Hey my Neurontin. Verse 3: Walkin' in the cold to have another smoke. Sick and tired of being the brunt of everyone's joke. I'm doing my best but I'm still out of wack. I'm feelin' shitty, I cannot see But I gotta get to AT but I can't run. Mark's callin' my name, glad he doesn't own a gun. But if I die in AT, at least I will die clean. Chorus: So help me nurses so I can heal, Find me Suboxone that I can steal, Hey my Neurontin. Help me nurses to stop the pain, I know in driving you all insane. Hey my Neurontin. So help me nurses so I can heal, Find me Suboxone that I can steal, Hey, I'm sorry I'm rotten. (I'm rotten, I'm rotten, I'm rotten) Help me nurses to stop the pain, I know in driving you all insane. Hey, I'm sorry I'm rotten. (I'm rotten, I'm rotten, I'm rotting away).

After being on a ton of harmful medication for over a year (gabapentin), this patient is free. Even the doctors were amazed at her results that could not be done through the current medical systems approach. Now she is getting better not with drugs, but with proper functioning of her body. Please contact me below, and I will find a real doctor in your area who will lead and guide you or that one you love to the true life and hope they were created for. The goal is to spread the message and the mission to release people from the chains of sickness, disease, surgeries, and medications. To allow people to see that they were created and born from an amazing creator with the absolute most magnificent ability to heal , function, and be well, as long as you are working with the essentials and laws of the body and never against it. Skeptic or not, proof and hundreds of people changed don't lie. My mission and vision is this: Over the next year or more, each testimony will relate to someone you know or yourself personally. Please forward the video to someone you know to share with others they know all over the world. Then contact me, so I can find the write person to take care of the special person in your life, friend, family member, so they can get well, and start living according to the design of the body and not against it. Whatever The F##K It Takes!

I officially know enough to know that I DON'T KNOW SHIT when it comes to staying sober. In this video I discuss my commitment to doing whatever is required to stop drinking and how I will spend my 4th of July. Thank you.

Whats so negative about Gabapentin?

08:05
Why is it that when I made a podcast a few months ago, I received more that a few reports stating that Gabapentin was terrible, the worst thing you could take, avoid it at all costs and much more. Tell me, what would be the alternative? Not being able to join the workforce? Not being able to go out visiting and enjoying life? Not being able to go to the social functions that you used to enjoy like you Church, Weddings, Graduations, Birthday parties? Not being able to walk for more than just a few minutes before disabling pain forced you to go back home and not get any kind of exercise? I am very curios as to what drugs out there work better than Gabapentin? If there is one, let me know and I will do a follow up podcast on it and tell all of my viewers that I was completely wrong, but for me, Gabapentin has given me mobility, strength, social activities, my own business and more.
