Help find a Cure for Cancer and donate today! http://kayyow.com/donate We are all touched by cancer in some way. Through her fights with cancer, Coach Kay Yow continually encouraged us to focus on what really matters in life. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is doing that on a daily basis. Since its inception in 2007, the Fund has allocated millions of dollars to research, grants, and programs that serve the under-served - all in a quest to find a cure for cancer and improve the quality of life for those living with the disease. Play4Kay is the largest fundraiser for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. This national sporting initiative honors survivors, increases awareness and raises money to further the cause. Former North Carolina Basketball Coach and Founder of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund Kay Yow used to say, 'Don't let the urgent get in the way of the important. Remember what really counts in the end.' Having fought cancer three times over a twenty year period, Coach Yow knew what she was talking about. We've featured Kay Yow along with our Executive Director, Stephanie Glance encouraging you to donate to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. We need you to be a part of finding the answer, finding the cure. Remembering Coach Kay Yow

03:46
Ladies and gentlemen, as you all know, the Wolfpack Family lost one of our own this past weekend as our head coach, Kay Yow passed away. She is and always will be the face of NC State: the University she loved with all her heart. If you only know her basketball record, which speaks for itself, you know very little about her. She had a drive and passion for people. She was a teacher, but not only on the hardwood. She was a gentile spirit, yet a fierce competitor. She had a servants heart, with a desire to serve and give back but was a leader of leaders. She could motivate, create enthusiasm, was extremely creative, and had the heart of an angel. Her family was NC Stateothers in the athletic department and across campus, the Wolfpack Club, the fans, the cheerleaders, pep band, dance team and of course Mr. And Ms. Wuf. Her greatest passion was her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ - and next to that came her love for HER players and former players. She loved, respected, protected, and always stood at the ready to go to battle with them and for them. As they still do for her. You may have seen media reports about Coach Yow losing her battle with Cancer. They are wrong. Every battle comes to an end, whether you win or lose. If Cancer had won in 1987, she would not have coached the USA to a Gold Medal in the Olympics in 1988. If Cancer had won in 1987, she would only have had 12 seasons at NC State, instead of 34, she would have only 348 career wins instead of 737, and she would not have coached a team in the final four. Cancer lost the battle long ago. But it tried a second time in 2004. Coach Yows response? 5 more seasons, A trip to the sweet 16, An ESPY award, Creating Hoops 4 Hope, And establishing another legacy with the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund She won more basketball games AFTER her initial diagnosis of breast cancer than she did before. Not because of the Cancer, but despite it. We are so fortunate to have had her as one of ours....She is NC States OWN, Coach Kay Yow.

Honoring Kay Yow: #Play4Kay Fighting Women's Cancers

01:35
Honoring Kay Yow: Kay Yow used her platform in the sport of women's basketball to influence people far beyond the hardwood. Through the Kay Yow cancer fund and #Play4Kay initiative she demonstrated a deep desire and capacity to care for others, and created a legacy which lives on even today. Two of today's leaders in women's basketball and close friends of Kay Yow, Nora Lynn Finch and Debbie Antonelli, reflect on the coaching legend's lasting impact. Presented by New York Life. SUBSCRIBE: http://bit.ly/Oqg3iE The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is a collegiate athletic conference in the United States in which its fifteen member universities compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA's) Division I, with its football teams competing in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), the highest levels for athletic competition in US-based collegiate sports. The ACC sponsors competition in twenty-five sports with many of its member institutions' athletic programs held in high regard nationally. ACC teams and athletes have claimed dozens of national championships in multiple sports throughout the conference's history. Generally, the ACC's top athletes and teams in any particular sport in a given year are considered to be among the top collegiate competitors in the nation. The ACC is considered to be one of the six collegiate power conferences, all of which enjoy extensive media coverage and automatic qualifying for their football champion into the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). With the advent of the College Football Playoff in 2014, the ACC will be one of five conferences with a contractual tie-in to an "access bowl", the successors to the BCS. Founded in 1953 in Greensboro, North Carolina, by seven universities located in the South Atlantic States, the conference added additional members in late 1953, 1979, 1991, 2004, and 2013. The 2004 and 2013 additions extended the conference's footprint into the Northeast and Midwest. The most recent expansion in 2013 saw the additions of the University of Notre Dame, the University of Pittsburgh, and Syracuse University. In 2012, the University of Maryland's Board of Regents voted to withdraw from the ACC to join the Big Ten Conference. On November 28, 2012, the ACC's Council of Presidents voted unanimously to invite the University of Louisville as a full member, replacing Maryland. Fighting Breast Cancer through Mobile Mammography

03:51
Learn more about the Fund: http://kayyow.com/ Coach Kay Yow's passion for helping fight breast cancer can be seen in the digital mammography equipment on two mobile units funded by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. These two units travel to over 15 different counties in North Carolina to provide mammogram screenings for 5,000 or more women a year. Wendy Avery, Clinic Coordinator for Rex Mobile Mammography says that many of the areas the units travel to are in remote areas where mammography areas simply don't exist or aren't easily accessible. In addition, Jade Watta, a mammographer on the unit, says that they also service corporate sites, giving breast cancer screenings to women who otherwise might not take the time to take care of themselves. 69 year old Lenora Woods is a breast cancer survivor who was originally diagnosed with a mobile screening on one of the units with equipment funded by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. With the benefit of early detection, Lenora was able to gain early medical intervention and treatment and is currently in full remission and active in her church and community. For Lenora, early detection was a lifesaver. Alliance Medical Ministry is a clinic that benefits from a visit from the mobile mammography unit once a month. Dr. Jaqueline Hicks, an Osteopathic Physician with the clinic, says that many of her patients who come into establish care have never had a screening mammogram, nor could they afford one, without this service. Early detection equals early treatment, she states. Because mammography is not a revenue producing modality, Wendy Avery says that funds from their partnership with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund are critical to their survival. Stephanie Glance, our Executive Director at the Fund, thinks these mobile units are right in line with Kay's mission to reach out to women who couldn't afford treatment, and Coach Yow's heart for the under-served. If you'd like to learn more about the Rex Mobile Mammography Units visiting a site near you, call 919-784-4210 or make a request here at: https://www.rexhealth.com/rh/care-treatment/imaging-radiology/mammography/r… To support programs like the mobile mammography units or research in the fight against cancer, please contact the Kay Yow Cancer fund at www.kayyow.com

Learn more about the Kay Yow Cancer Fund by visiting www.kayyow.com. Ellen Newman was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer at age 73. Dr. Hyman Muss of UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center has worked extensively with cancer in aging women. Dr. Muss' research in geriatric oncology helps fill the gaps in knowledge about the side effects of chemotherapy in older patients. The study that was funded by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's $1 million grant essentially asks patients to walk 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. The grant is to determine whether keeping lean muscle mass high during treatment can help reduce side-effects. Coach Kay Yow had a 22- year battle with cancer. Her goal was to provide clinical trials that would give women a better quality of life during their battle. The grant from the Kay Yow Cancer Fund looks at older women who are potentially curable and improving their lives while they undergo chemotherapy.
