Regular Use of Anti-Inflammatory Medications Can Be Dangerous -- Saint Thomas Health

02:21
If you have a fever, sore back or arthritis, it’s easy to reach into your medicine cabinet and grab a couple of ibuprofen to bring some pain relief. Millions of people do it, but Dr. Melissa Walton-Shirley says you should have full knowledge of all the side effects before taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s). Dr. Walton-Shirley, a cardiologist at Saint Thomas Heart in Nashville, says taking NSAID’s can increase your blood pressure and increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it over a long period of time or take it in high doses. These NSAID’s, which include ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, and Celebrex (just to name a few), can also cause ankle swelling, ulcers, or stomach bleeding Dr. Walton-Shirley advices if you’ve been placed on an anti-inflammatory for a sore knee or back, and now you’re feeling better, you should get off the medication immediately. Celebrex Safety Data Surprises Heart Experts

02:51
What is the safest anti-inflammatory drug? Is there one? Next Celebrex Safety Data Surprises Heart Experts But today, Dr. Steven Nissen, chairman of the department of cardiovascular medicine at Cleveland Clinic’s Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute and colleagues reported findings of a major 10-year study which found no such problems with Celebrex, offering reassurance to millions of patients and potentially changing the way doctors approach treating arthritis pain. For the study involving 24,081 heart patients and people at an increased risk for cardiovascular disease, the researchers compared celecoxib with the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs Naproxyn and Ibuprofen and found celecoxib no more dangerous to the heart than the two NSAIDs, which have been prescribed for decades. Celebrex was even safer when it came to certain side effects, like serious gastrointestinal problems. Nissen said it’s important for the public to understand that the researchers weren’t studying the occasional use of these drugs — instead they focused on patients with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis who take the drugs every day to control pain. Nissen said it was “very striking” that when it came to side effects, there was about a 50 percent lower risk of having a serious gastrointestinal complication from Celebrex compared to ibuprofen or naproxen. “Celebrex, unlike the other agents, does not have anti-platelet effects so is safer to combine with other blood thinners and can be taken peri-operatively — and even before the operation without increasing bleeding — to reduce post-operative pain, and also does not block the potent anti-platelet effects of aspirin. Comment: surprise… surprise.

Arthritis Drug Celebrex May Help Treat Depression

00:57
Researchers have found that the arthritis drug, often marketed as Celebrex, can help make anti-depression medication more effective. According to the study presented at the Fifth International Congress on Psychiatry and the Neurosciences in Athens, Greece, scientists say that pairing Celebrex with other drugs resulted in faster and more dramatic drops in depression scores in patients with bipolar disorder. The study's authors say the results suggest that the arthritis drug should be considered as an anti-depression treatment. Researchers also say that this combination helped patients recover faster. Usually anti-depressants could take 4-6 weeks to take effect. But with the new drug combination, patients reported seeing benefits to their treatment within the first week. http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2016/11/11/Arthritis-drug-Celebrex-may-help-treat-depression-researchers-say/8191478892349/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Use Turmeric Before Ever Swallowing Ibuprofen Again!

04:57
Use Turmeric Before Ever Swallowing Ibuprofen Again! Whether it is a headache, back pain, joint pain or almost any other body ache, millions of people turn to drugs such as Advil or Motrin to help ease the pain. Most of us probably start out with the recommended amount, but when it does not seem to support, popping a few more is common practice. So common, in fact, that the FDA has ramped up its warnings about the risk of these drugs and their role in causing heart attacks and strokes. Other drugs included in the warning were Celebrex, Aleve, Naprosyn, and Toredol. These drugs have some serious side effects, and it is estimated that they cause at least 16,000 deaths per year and send 100,000 people to the emergency room in the United States. The FDA cautions us to never take more than the recommended amount of non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). They also caution that no one should ever take two NSAIDs at the same time with the same active ingredients. The FDA is now requiring manufacturers of prescription NSAIDs to update their labels with more accurate information about heart attack and stroke risks. The most common problems these drugs cause are digestive ulcers and associated bleeding. Studies have also shown increased risk of other conditions, including atrial fibrillation, where the heart beats rapidly and becomes weak, kidney damage, and delayed healing of fractures and soft tissue injuries. Newer evidence, which led to these stronger warnings from the FDA, shows that even taking the drugs at their recommended doses for a short period of time can have serious side effects. These drugs do not sound like much of a solution anymore, do they? If only there were a way to treat aches and pains naturally, without all of the dangerous health risks associated with drugs. Here’s the good news: there is a much better, safer and more natural way to help relieve pain and inflammation, and you may already have it in your home. Turmeric has been known as a natural pain reliever for years and is effective without the serious side effects. The spice contains polyphenol, which has been shown to have hundreds of health benefits! A study published in the Alternative and Complementary Medicine Journal concluded that turmeric can be used as an effective alternative to ibuprofen for osteoarthritis. The spice has anti-inflammatory properties and modifies immune system responses. A supplemental study showed that turmeric was even more effective in preventing inflammation. Turmeric is not only safe, effective and natural, but it is also easily accessible and affordable. The list of uses for turmeric is almost endless. It can be used for arthritis, heartburn, stomach pain, diarrhea, gas, liver problems, gallbladder disorders and more. The anti-inflammatory power of turmeric comes from its main active ingredient, curcumin, which is a very potent antioxidant that helps to fight inflammation. The most effective way to take turmeric is through an extract, which simplifies the absorption process, but you can also use the root. The next time you are experiencing pain or find yourself with a pounding headache, skip the bottle of pills and reach for some turmeric instead. You’ll get the pain relief you need, without the possibility of experiencing side effects that are dangerous to your health. https://youtu.be/VB0v2k295lY

Customer Review. Stops 10 Years of Celebrex With Inflammation Formula From Desert Willow Botanicals

Customer Review. Stops 10 Year Use of Celebrex With Inflammation Formula From Desert Willow Botanicals Our Turmeric Anti-Inflammatory Formula provides natural pain relief as natural pain remedies. Desert Willow Botanicals extracts are technically tinctures, though they are stronger than many tinctures available on the market. A big difference in the production of our extracts is that we make sure our plants are harvested at the peak of their potency. For instance, if the root of a particular herb is what is being used, the best time to harvest the root is when the plant is dormant with no flowers or leaves visible. This is the time when all of the plant’s energy is in the root. With many herbs, this is what makes a big difference in the potency of the product. Our extensive knowledge in maximum potency harvesting times for each herb used in our extracts is very important. The herb is then ground and mixed with grain alcohol and distilled water and extracted for over a month. It is then pressed out, along with the concentrated extracted plant juices. No heat is used in the process. (602) 451-5252 To talk to a real person! DMARDs are not the only medication options for Rheumatoid Arthritis sufferers. While NSAIDS like include Ibuprofen and Naproxen are available over the counter, they’re also in prescription strength, and more powerfully prevent pain and inflammation. It is best to take NSAIDs with a meal in both the morning and evening to avoid gastrointestinal side effects. Other possible side effects of NSAIDs include liver or kidney damage, heart problems, ulcers, and intestinal bleeding. COXIBs, such as Celebrex, can also relieve pain with fewer gastrointestinal side effects than NSAIDs. Common Painkillers May Boost Blood Pressure In Arthritis Patients

01:18
A new study suggests that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, may raise blood pressure in patients with arthritis. NSAIDs are among the most widely used drugs in the world, with almost 19 percent of Americans routinely using at least one NSAID. Warnings on the labels of these drugs caution against possible increases in blood pressure, but there is little evidence on the effects of specific drugs. Meanwhile, 30 million Americans have osteoarthritis, and 40 percent of those people also have high blood pressure. Managing high blood pressure in patients with arthritis could prevent more than 70,000 deaths from stroke and 60,000 deaths from heart disease each year. To examine any link between specific NSAIDs and high blood pressure, the researchers compared the effects of Celebrex with the NSAIDs naproxen, the active drug in Aleve, and ibuprofen, which is found in Advil and Motrin. After four months, the researchers found that the Celebrex lowered the patients' average systolic blood pressure slightly, but ibuprofen and naproxen increased it. Further analysis revealed that the percentage of patients with normal blood pressure who developed high blood pressure was roughly 23 percent for ibuprofen, 19 percent for naproxen and about 10 percent for Celebrex. https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2017/08/30/Common-painkillers-may-boost-blood-pressure-in-arthritis-patients/9461504141315/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Chondroitin vs Celecoxib Knee OA Progression

03:40
What’s the best drug for delaying knee replacement… next Study finds best anti-inflammatory for delaying knee osteoarthritis’ progression Michael Johnsen writing for Drug Store News reported chondroitin sulfate is superior to an anti-inflammatory drug, celecoxib, for delaying the progression of knee osteoarthritis, according to a new study presented by Jean-Pierre Pelletier, from the University of Montreal (Canada), at the official press conference of the Annual meeting of the American College of Rheumatology. The study, named MOSAIC, was a multicenter, randomized, double blind, controlled and comparative study analyzing chondroitin sulfate and celecoxib. The study recruited 194 patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis with inflammation and moderate pain. Participants were divided into two groups: the first group received 1,200 mg of pharmaceutical grade chondroitin sulfate (made by Bioiberica) per day, while the second group received 200 mg of celecoxib per day, over a two-year period. The participants underwent three Quantitative Magnetic Resonance scans: one at the beginning of the study, a second one after one year, and a third one at the end of the study. The results revealed that the progression of knee osteoarthritis is slower in patients receiving chondroitin sulfate. More precisely, this group experienced a statistically significant lower loss of cartilage volume after the first year of treatment, in comparison with those patients who received the anti inflammatory drug. “This data proves that chondroitin sulfate may delay the advance of osteoarthritis in the long term, and that it had a disease-modifying effect,” affirmed Pelletier. The study also evaluated the effects of both drugs on pain, function, stiffness, joint efflux and swelling; concluding that both treatments were equally efficient across the entire study, reaching a clinically relevant symptom improvement of around 50%. “The study confirmed that both drugs are efficient for the treatment of osteoarthritis symptoms, although only chondroitin sulfate has the additional advantage of exerting a joint protection effect and a better safety profile,” Pelletier said. Comment: a neutriceutical that outperforms a pharmaceutical. Wow!! A very promising method for regenerating cartilage…

Commercial For CELEBREX

02:30
Celebrex is prescribed for acute pain, menstrual cramps, and the pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis (rheumatoid arthritis of the spine), and rheumatoid arthritis. It is a member of a new class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) called COX-2 inhibitors. Like older NSAIDs such as Motrin and Naprosyn, Celebrex is believed to fight pain and inflammation by inhibiting the effect of a natural enzyme called COX-2. Unlike the older medications, however, it does not interfere with a similar substance, called COX-1, which exerts a protective effect on the lining of the stomach. Therefore, Celebrex may be less likely to cause the bleeding and ulcers that sometimes accompany sustained use of the older NSAIDs.

PHARMACOLOGY; NON NARCOTIC ANALGESICS & NSAIDs by Professor Fink

57:23
In this Video Lecture, Professor Fink first reviews the dual nature of pain: pain perception and pain reaction. He describes the 2 pain pathways ["fast" (epicritic) pain involving Type A-delta noxiceptors and "slow" (protopathic) pain involving Type C noxiceptors]. He then describes factors affecting Pain Reaction. Professor Fink also identifies the differences between analgesics, local anesthetics and general anesthetics. Professor Fink next describes the formation and actions of prostaglandins, including the role of cyclo-oxygenase (COX). Professor Fink then presents the pharmacology of the Salicylate Non-Narcotic Analgesic & Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, including Aspirin (ASA), ibuprofen (Advil) and Celebrex (COX-2 Inhibitor). Professor Fink then presents the Paraminophenol Non-Narcotic Analgesic Drugs (acetaminophen; Tylenol), and final compares and contrasts Aspirin with acetominophen. Common NSAID Capable of Triggering Liver Cancer Cell Suicide

01:53
The anti-inflammatory drug celecoxib, commonly known under the brand name Celebrex, causes liver cancer cell death by interacting with a protein in a way that triggers those cells to commit suicide, according to research appearing in the journal Cancer Prevention Research. The study authors also found that the combination of celecoxib with two chemotherapy drugs killed more liver cells in culture, making combinations of those drugs more effective than either on their own.

Celecoxib Shows a Surprising Benefit in Breast Cancer

03:10
Charles Coombes, MD, professor of Medical Oncology, Imperial College London, discusses surprising results from a recent study examining celecoxib’s impact on breast cancer progression and relapse. The study involved more than 2,600 women with breast cancer who were randomized to receive celecoxib or a placebo for two years. Considering that celecoxib is an anti-inflammatory agent and inflammation has been known to play a role in disease progression, Coombes hypothesized that the women who received the drug would have an improvement on progression-free survival. However, there was no overall benefit observed, and about 20 percent of patients getting celecoxib faced relapse. However, some meaningful insight was still gained about the potential role of celecoxib in breast cancer treatment moving forward. First, researchers were expecting to see an increase in cardiac events, such as strokes, for patients randomized to the drug, but that did not happen. Also, patients who received celecoxib saw improvement in arthralgia, which is one of the most common side effects for patients on endocrine therapy. Finally, there was a disease-free survival benefit noticed in the 660 women who had celecoxib, but did not require further chemotherapy/ Overall, celecoxib was well-tolerated, and while the study did not reach its primary goal, it did open the door for future research on the drug’s use in treating patients with breast cancer.

Heart Risks From Pain Pills Reviewed by FDA

The health risks of common pain killers called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, are being reassessed by the United States Food and Drug Administration. The health risks of common pain killers called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, are being reassessed by the United States Food and Drug Administration. Health risks from taking naproxen, the active ingredient in Bayer's Aleve, were compared to other common over the counter pain killers like ibuprofen, which is sold under the brand name Advil and Motrin. The FDA's panel of experts reviewed an analysis from last year that looked at the results of over 700 studies involving the use of NSAIDs with around 350 thousand subjects. The Food and Drug Administration has required NSAIDs to be labeled with possible health risks since 2005. Victoria Richards, an assistant professor of medical sciences at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut is quoted as saying: "Research suggests that naproxen has a significantly lower risk of cardiovascular events than ibuprofen, although the dose of ibuprofen may be taken into consideration. This lower risk might be seen with low-dose ibuprofen." In the US, consumers reportedly purchased over 275 million boxes of over the counter pain killers which amounts to about 1 point 7 billion dollars in sales, while prescription NSAIDs like Celebrex reportedly had sales of 2 point 9 billion dollars.
