If your cat has a food allergy, it will be important to keep her needs in mind when picking out her food. Figuring out what diet works best for your cat may be a bit of a trial and error process, but there are some techniques you can employ to make the process more streamlined. If your cat is having an allergic reaction right now, take her to the vet right away. Fortunately, both food intolerances and allergies can be eliminated with a diet free from offending agents. In cats, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) occurs when large amounts of inflammatory cells invade the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. These cells release harmful toxins, causing damage that leads to the chronic vomiting and diarrhea seen with IBD. Although the exact cause of feline IBD is not known, one potential cause is food allergies. How to Treat Seasonal Allergies in Cats | Cat Allergies: Symptoms, Causes, Treatments

05:27
Allergy season can be hard on our feline friends. Pollen, dust, mold, and other common allergens can be tough to handle for both cats and homeowners. The best treatment for feline allergies is simply to avoid all points of contact between your pet and the causes of their allergies. You may need to keep a watchful eye on pollen counts in your city and be especially mindful about tracking pollens into your house. If your cat escapes for a stroll through the neighborhood, you may want to rinse off any pollen they may have trapped in their fur. If itching and inflammation is very bad this season, you may want to consider changes in diet alongside medications like antihistamines, cyclosporine or corticosteroids. Cat Skin Allergies Symptoms and Treatment

01:40
In this video from the Cat Health Guide on cat skin allergies, Dr. Patrick McHale, DVM describes the steps a veterinarian will take when diagnosing and treating a cat skin allergy problem (see http://www.cat-health-guide.org/feline-skin-allergies.html for more information). With skin allergies in cats, the first step is to check for a flea problem. A veterinarian will look for signs such as black specks or "flea dirt." If this is the case then steps will be taken to kill the fleas and provide a preventative. If the cat is already on flea treatment, then the vet will look at feline skin allergy due to inhaled allergens or a food allergy. Any food component or ingredient can be the cause of an allergic skin reaction in a cat or kitten including something as common as fish. First a veterinarian will experiment with an elimination diet which seeks to identify the ingredient causing the problem. If it cannot be identified, then a hypoallergenic diet can be considered.

How To Diagnose And Treat Bacterial Skin Infections In Cats

05:08
Bacterial skin infections in cats, also known as pyoderma, can be caused by either environmental or internal factors. The staph infection is the most common cause of bacterial skin infections.[1] At home, you may be able to diagnose your cat’s symptoms by examining its skin for lesions, pustules, and sores. Your doctor will be able to confirm or disconfirm your diagnosis with examinations, cultures, and blood tests. Treatment depends on the severity of the infection. If it is a mild infection, topical antibiotics and medicated shampoos may be prescribed. If it is more serious, oral antibiotics in addition to topical ones will be prescribed. CATS CAN HAVE ALLERGIES TOO

10:06
SVEN HAS FOOD ALLERGIES!! Sven has been exhibiting some symptoms for a few months now and his symptoms has escalated in the past few weeks. He had inflammation and fur loss around the corner of his left eye and had daily asthmatic-like attacks. Also, he has been back to the vet yearly for a reoccurring eye ulcer/infection. Given all these symptoms, the vet suggested us to do a blood allergy test. Thankfully he has no environmental allergies, BUT it turns out he is allergic to milk, beef, and liver! At least it is something we can control. It is so easily forgotten that cats have an immune system, just like humans, and can have allergies. I hope this video is somewhat informative as to how to diagnose and treat a cat with food allergies. Symptoms of allergies: 1. Excessive itching/scratching (especially face and ears) 2. Excessive sneezing 3. Snoring 4. Asthmatic attacks (Cat is low to the ground, the neck is extended, and the cat is wheezing/coughing. May sound like a hairball coming up.) Diet changes and supplements will help your pets. http://AskAriel.com Allergies affect many pets but some pet owners may not know that allergies are the underlying cause of their pet's health problems. Cat coughing-the cause could be very simple

01:00
My cat was coughing frequently, multiple times throughout the day for a few months. I got worried and took her to the vet. After an evaluation, it was determined that it was an allergy. I decided to change the wet cat food and started purchasing Iams exclusively. My Demi stopped coughing completely after a few days since I eliminated a cheaper cat food from her diet. Some ingredients in it must have been irritating her stomach and/or esophagus. It was a great lesson for me to spend more money on cat food than putting my cat under health risk now and in the future. Also the vet recommended to try mixing Claritin RediTabs 5 mg every 24 hours with her wet food, but I never really had to. Below is a link to Iams cat food that all of my 3 cats highly enjoy and that does not give any food allergies. How to Feed a Feline Cancer Patient | Feeding the Cat with Cancer

06:20
As cats get older, their risk of developing cancer increases. Like humans, cats can get many different types of cancer, which may result in a variety of complications. It is common for feline cancer patients to have trouble getting proper nutrition, either because of the cancer itself or as a side effect of some of the common treatments for cancer (such as surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy). You can ensure that your cat gets the best nutrition possible by feeding your cat a diet tailored to their needs, stimulating your cat’s appetite, and helping them eat if they need extra assistance or are unable to do so on their own.
