10 Most WARNING Signs of Gluten Intolerance

09:00
Gluten intolerance, also called gluten sensitivity or Celiac Disease- when it’s in its most severe form- can have symptoms that range from no symptoms to life threatening or debilitating chronic health problems and anywhere in between. Often, these symptoms are not consistent from person to person and this is part of what makes gluten testing or Diagnosing Gluten Sensitivity so difficult for medical professionals. Gluten sensitivity and intolerance can manifest as much more than just IBS-like symptoms and stomach problems. That’s why doctors are more likely to dismiss the idea that you even have this because if they don’t hear about digestive problems as your chief complaint, then it must be something else. More than 55 diseases have been linked to gluten, the protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. It's estimated that 99% of the people who have either gluten intolerance or celiac disease are never diagnosed. But how can you tell if you really are gluten intolerant? For some, eating this mainly wheat-derived protein is just fine, while others experience a full range of symptoms, some of which can make life nightmarish. If you have experienced at least 7 of these 10 symptoms after eating foods containing gluten, it might be time to think about modyfying your diet. Food Allergies | When to Worry | Parents

01:35
Watch as Parents Magazine shows when to worry about food allergies! Ninety percent of food allergy symptoms are caused by milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, or soy. Within a few minutes to an hour of eating a specific food, your baby could experience the side effects of food allergies. However, it could take days, especially if your breastfeeding baby has a reaction to a food you have eaten. These are the three symptoms to watch for. A skin rash, such as hives, will produce itchy bumps as a classic allergic reaction. Eczema is another common symptom. Consistent diarrhea or vomiting after eating a particular food may mean your baby has a food allergy, but it could also be a sign of an intolerance, which is less serious. Blood-streaked stool is a common indicator of a cow's milk allergy, or lactose intolerance. Lastly, circulation and breathing issues are very serious signs of allergic reactions. Call 911 immediately if he is experiencing anaphylaxis, the most serious food allergy symptom. Luckily, more than 80 percent of allergies to eggs, milk, wheat, and soy fade by age five. Mom Of Formerly Autistic Child Explains Gluten Free Casein Free Diet - Holly Riley

09:26
Holly Riley is the parent of a fully recovered autistic child, her son Quinn. Quinn was diagnosed with Autism around the age of two and yet in a just a few short years, through the use of dietary change, biomedical treatment and traditional autism therapies, Quinn was able to come out of the Autism fog. In this video Holly shares what she did to adopt the gluten free casein free diet, which was central to reversing Quinn's Autism. In this video, Holly shares: • That dietary intervention was one of the most important steps to Quinn's recovery. • Once all dairy and gluten was stopped, Quinn became more connected to his surroundings and his health dramatically improved. • She used biomedical treatment which also helped recover her son. • All Defeat Autism Now Doctors recommend changing the diet of an Autistic child. • Behavior improves and health improves when dairy and gluten are removed. • A great resource is the Talk About Curing Autism website. • Rice milk replaced Quinn's cow milk. • Replace dairy with water or a grain beverage. • Start with one meal at a time, such as with breakfast first. • Gluten and casein are proteins. • Fruit and vegetables are better snacks than processed foods. • Avoid soy because the protein in gluten and casein is similar to soy protein. • The best milk substitute is clean water. • Read all labels on all foods and make sure the products are free of malt, sugar, food starch, gluten or dairy. Buy vegan products. • Do basic cooking; cooking from scratch with whole foods (not processed foods, like pasta). • The crock-pot can be very useful for cooking. • Prepare gluten free cupcakes in advance and freeze them and then they are available for special occasions. • Shop at health food stores to avoid foods with chemicals in them and to get highly nutritious organic food. A lot of people don't understand that birds can be cuddly and sweet and fun to hold too. I don't think they necessarily think, "Oh bird, cuddly." They usually think cat, dog, fuzzy little pet. But many, many birds are very, very sweet. I'd say the top of that list is probably the cockatoo. Cockatoos are very social. They love to snuggle. There are some other birds too. Even African Greys. Even little birds like cockatiels can snuggle. Really, if you put the time in and you work with the bird they will come to you, they will sit with you. They'll be your companion. But there are certain cautions we have to take when we work with birds and we encourage them to snuggle because we can get into some problems. Right Sarah? Sarah: Yes. Some behavioral problems can actually develop from snuggling. Once birds actually reach sexual maturity, the problem that we can reach is that the bird thinks that you are its mate, rather than its flock mate. And past that point that's when we, unfortunately, have to maybe move away from the snuggling and just head petting. No body petting. No under the wings. Because unfortunately the birds get very confused and that's where we run into the egg laying and possible serious behavioral issues related to reproductive problems. Doctor Hess: Right. We don't want to send our birds mixed messages. So we will stick to petting the head. We will not let them think that we're going to mate with them. And we can interact with our birds in many different ways, giving them treats giving them toys, even verbal praise. All of those things are nice. But, pretending to be your bird's mate when really you're just your bird's friend, that's, you know, what can get a little confusing for some birds. So we just have to make sure they understand who we are, where we are and what we're doing.

Nutrition - Knowing & Managing Your Food Allergies

02:53
Nutrition - Knowing & Managing Your Food Allergies - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. An elimination diet is a really good way to look at, something you can do at home, if you have a suspicion you might have sensitivity or an allergy to a certain food. This is something that I recommend for parents in particular when they are dealing with a child who might have some kind of behavioral problem or they might have some kind of fuzzy thinking problem around school work, or you find that the child is falling asleep in the middle of the day. There are a lot of things to watch for. You can do this yourself, of course, and it is really helpful with adults, as well, but this is a good place to start when you have a suspicion. The basics are this: You take that sensitive food, or the food that you think you are sensitive to, and you pull it out of the diet for about two weeks. Give it at least 10 days. And you want to really, if it is something like wheat, you have to be really careful because you will find it hidden in a lot of things. So, you need to read those food labels and really look for anything that might be related to wheat. If you have something that is like an egg, same thing. It is not just the egg that you find in your refrigerator or hard boiled, you are going to have to look at the ingredients lists on foods to make sure there are not eggs, or egg protein, or egg whites in something. So, once you can do that, you make sure that you take that out for two weeks, pay attention to how you feel. You might want to keep a journal or write on your calendar, "Feeling great today. Wow! Had no bad dreams. Oh my goodness, you know, 3:00 in the afternoon came and it went, and I did not even notice." So, really important to understand that you have to pay attention, because otherwise you would not know if there is a difference by the time you get to the other end. The end of that 10 days or two weeks, the challenge portion of the elimination diet, is that you take that food that you thought you were sensitive to and you add it back, and you add it back a bunch. So, if you are looking at wheat, then you have French toast for breakfast, you have the Dagwood sandwich for lunch, you have pasta for dinner, and you really pay attention to how you feel. You pay attention to, "Does my tummy feel bloated? Do I feel sluggish? Have I run out of energy? Can I not put a whole sentence together? Is my poo really sticky?" There are lots of ways that your body will change and will give you a signal other than just like gut-wrenching diarrhea or vomiting or hives; that is a full-blown allergic reaction. But there are a lot of people that are a lot of people that are in that middle range of sensitivity, and that elimination challenge diet, which you can do at home, is a way that you can do the experiment yourself. Then take those results to your nutritionist or your primary care physician and say, "I have this suspicion, and I have done this, and this was the result. Can you help me get the test to actually confirm this?" An elimination diet is a really great place to start.

ADD/ADHD Behavioral Disorder and Natural Approaches in Boca Raton

07:18
Children that have behavioral disorders can be helped naturally by looking at some key health factors. Food sensitivities to egg, corn, soy, gluten and dairy can be adversely affecting your child's immune system and thereby contributing to the problem. Immune compromised children need strengthened gastro-intestinal systems, which can be facilitated by natural supplements like probiotics and digestive enzymes. Lastly control blood sugar levels evenly throughout the day by not missing a breakfast, eating healthy foods such as protein, carb and fat with each meal, and not letting more then 3-4 hours past without eating something can go a long way. Coping with your toddlers food allergies - Part 1

03:44
For young children in the toddler years, one of the most common allergens that can have the biggest impact on a child’s nutritional status is an allergy to cow’s milk proteins. For toddlers the milk and dairy food group provides a significant percentage of protein, energy fat and calcium. Eliminating this food group without providing suitable alternatives can put a child at risk of poor growth and micro-nutrient deficiencies. We Were Going to Quit Homesteading. Then This happened...

01:10:00
On this episode of Homesteady, Aunt, Kendra, and the family update us on the changes on the farm throughout 2017. A year ago, Aust and Kendra were going to sell the farm and go on a road trip. Instead, they have had the most productive year on the homestead yet! They updated with major infrastructure improvements and even got a cow. What happened? With small children who don't travel well, and a re-discovered appreciation for their home in Connecticut, Aust and Kendra decided staying at their current homestead was the best choice. Kendra set a goal for the homestead to be NEAT and ORDERLY. 2017 was the year of form and function. Every change, every innovation, had a purpose. Improving the infrastructure on the farm was the number one priority. Our YouTube Video shows the giant machine that made a road to the barn in just one day! An improved, more accessible barn opens many possibilities for Aust and Kendra, and increased efficiency for all barn related tasks. Have a new barn? How about getting pigs earlier, as they can be easily cared for and sheltered in the new barn? Aust and Kendra were able to buy their pigs in April, a whole month earlier than they usually do. The combination of an early start, mild weather, and Stone House Grain led to pigs that were 100 pounds heavier than their previous heaviest batch of pigs. Heavier pigs allowed Aust and Kendra to create more flavors of bacon and sausages with their pigs. Who doesn't like sausages? This year, the farm raised 50 Cornish Cross and 25 Ranger Chickens, plus seventeen new egg layers. This was the first year of raising two different types of chickens, and Just was very impressed with the rangers. Pro Tip from Kendra: Keep the two breeds separate, as the rangers were found to be aggressive towards the Cornish Cross! Raising turkeys seemed like an excellent idea for the oldest Martin child to expand his existing egg selling farm business. However, a shipment of turkeys arrived in very poor health. The two surviving turkeys imprinted on the family as their own flock. With some adventures in turkey behavior notwithstanding, the turkeys have survived the holiday season (so far). Stay tuned... Raising ducks is something that has been done on the homestead before. However, during the at-home butchering process, a few things went awry... SHOUT OUT TO NATHAN: In 2016, Nathan let us know that he had an allergy to duck eggs. Aust does too, and was able to recognize the symptoms thanks to his letter. Between the egg allergy and not wanting to butcher ducks on the homestead, ducks are going to be a "decoration animal" on the farm from this point forward. The biggest adventure? Dairy Cows! Kendra shares her journey exploring which cow is best, taking care of a cow, and birthing her first calf. Spoiler Alert: A cow is EASIER than goats. You've Heard of a Murder of Crows. How About a Crow Funeral? | Deep Look

These birds cause a ruckus around their fallen friend. Are they just scared, or is there something deeper going on? SUBSCRIBE to Deep Look! http://goo.gl/8NwXqt DEEP LOOK is a ultra-HD (4K) short video series created by KQED San Francisco and presented by PBS Digital Studios. See the unseen at the very edge of our visible world. Explore big scientific mysteries by going incredibly small. * NEW VIDEOS EVERY OTHER TUESDAY! * It’s a common site in many parks and backyards: Crows squawking. But groups of the noisy black birds may not just be raising a fuss, scientists say. They may be holding a funeral. Kaeli Swift, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Washington’s Avian Conservation Lab in Seattle, is studying how crows learn about danger from each other and how they respond to seeing one of their own who has died. Unlike the majority of animals, crows react strongly to seeing a fellow member of their species has died, mobbing together and raising a ruckus. Only a few animals like whales, elephants and some primates, have such strong reactions. To study exactly what may be going on on, Swift developed an experiment that involved exposing local crows in Seattle neighborhoods to a dead taxidermied crow in order to study their reaction. “It’s really incredible,” she said. “They’re all around in the trees just staring at you and screaming at you.” Swift calls these events ‘crow funerals’ and they are the focus of her research. --- What do crows eat? Crows are omnivores so they’ll eat just about anything. In the wild they eat insects, carrion, eggs seeds and fruit. Crows that live around humans eat garbage. --- What’s the difference between crows and ravens? American crows and common ravens may look similar but ravens are larger with a more robust beak. When in flight, crow tail feathers are approximately the same length. Raven tail feathers spread out and look like a fan. Ravens also tend to emit a croaking sound compared to the caw of a crow. Ravens also tend to travel in pairs while crows tend to flock together in larger groups. Raven will sometimes prey on crows. --- Why do crows chase hawks? Crows, like animals whose young are preyed upon, mob together and harass dangerous predators like hawks in order to exclude them from an area and protect their offspring. Mobbing also teaches new generations of crows to identify predators. ---+ Read the entire article on KQED Science: https://www.kqed.org/science/1923458/youve-heard-of-a-murder-of-crows-how-about-a-crow-funeral/ ---+ For more information: Kaeli Swift’s Corvid Research website https://corvidresearch.blog/ University of Washington Avian Conservation Laboratory http://sefs.washington.edu/research.acl/ ---+ More Great Deep Look episodes: Why Do Tumbleweeds Tumble? | Deep Look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dATZsuPdOnM Upside-Down Catfish Doesn't Care What You Think | Deep Look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eurCBOJMrsE Take Two Leeches and Call Me in the Morning | Deep Look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-0SFWPLaII ---+ See some great videos and documentaries from PBS Digital Studios! 34. Mating Systems and Parental Care

40:55
Principles of Evolution, Ecology and Behavior (EEB 122) Mating systems and parental care vary tremendously from species to species. Every species differs in how it protects its young from predators and provides its young with food, if it does so at all. The physical environment as well as behavioral dynamics in intraspecies relationships all influence parental care. Often the mating system, which sex is dominant in mating, and whether fertilization is external or internal will determine much of the process of parental care. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Candida Diet Plan : Ultimate Anti-Candida Diet For Candida Overgrowth

25:54
Discover the ultimate candida diet plan to get rid of your candida overgrowth. Anti-Candida Diet for those suffering from candida yeast overgrowth. Candida Diet Plan: Anti-Candida Diet for Candida Overgrowth A thorough candida diet takes three steps, with an initial clean up to improve the diet to help transition into revitalizing the digestive system. Cleaning Up New lifestyle and diet habits form when spending a few weeks altering daily habits into permanent behavior. For long term maintenance, your health relies on more than just a candida cleanse in order to prevent recurring problems. Cut back on eating out or getting food on the go, as these habits will not be helpful in recovering from candida symptoms. Chew food thoroughly, and relax when you do it: avoid distractions such as the computer or work. The cleanup stages include removing processed foods from your diet, and focusing on wholesome meals such as fresh produce and dishes prepared at home. Exercise, avoiding negative people, and enjoying life will provide long-term health. If you aggravate your body any time during any of the stages, back off the diet and ease into the restrictions or additions over time. Stage 1: The MEVY Diet The MEVY stands for: Meat, Eggs, Vegetables, and Yogurt. During this stage, remove any remaining traces of processed food in your kitchen. Any cans, bottles, and other items that have been around for weeks, even days, should be thrown out. Avoid white sugar, white flour, sodas, alcohol, and even candy and chocolate. A good strategy is to go to farmer's markets to find fresher, locally grown food, or even grow your own to ensure chemical and spray-free produce. If you do shop at a grocery store, go around the walls where produce, meats, and other wholesome ingredients are: avoid the aisles with prepackaged items. Avoid sugars, especially hidden in different sauces, as they are candida foods. Salt should also be avoided as excessive amounts deplete the body of vital nutrients. To know what vegetables and fruits to eat, stock your pantry with deep, green options. Visit YeastInfection.org for a more comprehensive list on the best foods to have. When on the MEVY diet for the first three or four weeks, avoid squash and other high carbohydrate items, and items such as sweet corn that contain sugars. This includes pumpkins, zucchini, and similar vegetables. If you have a mild candida infection, these foods may be okay in moderate amounts. The diet itself can last from two weeks up to three months. Avoid dried fruits, fruit juices, and certain fresh fruits. Blueberries, avocados, green apples, and pomegranates are acceptable, but avoid sweet fruits as they are high in sugar. Mix up the food you consume on a daily basis. A variety of foods can help the immune system and digestive tract. Meat and eggs that are antibiotic and chemical free are strong considerations for the candida diet to get a good source of amino acids and proteins. Processed meats and any pig lack in nutrition for the body and can upset the digestive tract from cleansing the body of yeast . If you become constipated, back away from meat and incorporate more vegetables into your anti-candida diet plan. Stage 2: Low Allergy Phase After the MEVY diet has improved digestion, begin taking out dairy (except small amounts of unsweetened, plain yogurt or kefir, unsalted butter and small amounts of mozzarella and parmesan), and allergenic fruits that include oranges and any similar relatives (lemons and limes are okay), bananas, and pineapple. Remove stevia and xylitol if you have extreme candida for at least one month. Stage 3: Food Reimplementation This final portion is for reintroducing foods to build up to a normal diet. Write down any foods you used to have and enjoyed, no matter how unhealthy they were. Rate the foods on a 1-3 scale: 1 being the lowest preferred foods, with a 3 being foods you absolutely love. Begin with category 1 and introduce two foods at a time over a two to four week period. Note any candida symptoms and back away from those foods should they appear. Move up to the second, and then third category over a slow, cautious period of time. 1:17 Step 1 Candida Diet Approach 2:42 Stage One: MEVY Diet Phase 5:26 Foods To Eat & Foods To Avoid 16:05 When To Eat Less Meat 17:24 Stage Two: Low Allergy Phase 20:19 Stage Three: Food Re-Introduction Diet 21:13 Taking Notes of Tricky Foods 23:11 Candida Lifestyle Changes Foods To Eat On Candida Diet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ccm4X8wKRPI Foods To Avoid On Candida Diet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_9ntEF2_YU How To Do Candida Cleanse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwUBdS-dPZM Complete playlist of all videos related to anti-candida overgrowth diet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJWGhEHh9K4&list=PLfJ13C3ev-A5wb2VnOS5ur9IvWbH5XV5j

"How did you get so interested in the gluten problem?" Dr. Rodney Ford answers

05:32
"How did you get so interested in gluten?" Dr. Rodney Ford answers. "Hello. I'm Dr. Rodney Ford. I am a paediatrician, gastroenterologist and allergist. Today I got asked an interesting question one of my patient's moms. She asked "Dr. Ford, how did you get so interested in Gluten". That is a good question as people think that I'm totally gluten-orientated, but that is not correct. Lots of illnesses as you know are caused by gluten, but there are many other illnesses that are not. I'm a pediatrician and I see lots of children with all different sorts of troubles. My interest in food allergy and food intolerance, began over 30 years ago. I wrote my PhD on "Food hypersensitivity in children: diagnostic approaches to milk and egg hypersensitivity. I did a lot of research and, in fact I was asked to contribute to this book "Food Allergy and Intolerance". I have been interested in food allergy for 30 years, and during my studies, a lot of the mothers were saying that their babies and children were a lot better when they removed wheat from their diets. I was doing skin-prick-testing at that time, but the wheat allergy test did not show up in these children. So, I didn't have a test that I could use it to make their diagnosis. However I left the idea parked in the back of my mind. But in the 1990s, that is 10 years after I wrote my thesis, a test did become available called IgG gliadin antibody. I had a lot of patients whose mothers were saying that wheat upset their children. So what I started to do was to check out of this gliadin test in these children. And lo-and-behold, it was often positive! I became very interested in this because of a child who came to my clinic called Elizabeth. Isn't she beautiful. She did not turn up in the ballet dress but she looked thin like this. Two years later, gluten-free, she was a beautiful child like this. She was gluten-sensitive and she was the first child in my pediatric practice that I put on to a gluten-free diet, who did not have celiac disease. I wrote this up in my book "The gluten syndrome". http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/58338 However, the first book I wrote was called: "Are you gluten-sensitive: your questions answered". To my knowledge, this is one of the first books ever written on gluten-sensitivity. But my colleagues were not impressed. They thought that this was fringe medicine, and they would not hear me out. They would not believe that to gluten sensitivity was an issue. So why would I focus so much on gluten illness without the support of my medical colleagues. Well, I am a pediatrician. Children come to see me who are sick tired and grumpy. But they are told that this is how children are. For instance, their poor growth is just something they will grow out of; their poor behavior is because of the poor parenting; Their tummy pain, well they're just making it up; their headaches, well all children get headaches; they get diarrhea and constipation, well this is just how they are. Disturbingly, These children, with all these symptoms, were told that they were just "normal" and would grow out of it. But they did not grow out of these problems! In fact I got 50 mothers together to write up their stories and this is in another book "The book of Sick Tired and Grumpy". So we call these children who are sensitive to gluten, "the sick, the tired and the grumpy children". I found, that if I do the gluten test and it is positive, and the children go gluten-free, then their symptoms go away. Their parents are delighted and everyone is happy. The only ones who are not happy about this seemed to be the medical people in my city who still are very reluctant to take on board the fact that gluten can cause so many symptoms, other than celiac disease. So my interest in gluten is because, when I put these children on a gluten-free diet (or gluten zero as I now call it), they get better! It's not because I think the gluten is the worst thing in the world, but it is because when you take children off this particular substance, their symptoms vanish. They have had decades of symptoms sometimes, and get better. Also, their parents go gluten-free and they feel better. So I am targeting gluten as it is one of the main problems in our health system today. It is because so many people when they rid themselves of gluten, get better. So it is not me but is pushing the gluten barrow: it is my patients encouraging me to speak out because they want to have the official diagnosis of gluten sensitivity, they don't want to go it alone. So that is why I'm interested in gluten." Visit the eClinic http://drrodneyford.com/eclinic/index.php by Rodney Ford.

Doves chicks die in nest; How the parents reacted

09:36
FURTHER UPDATE (June 5, 2015): I received this message from John, a biologist. I think this answers most of your questions. Thanks John!! "Goodpasture had the answer in hand when he examined the nest and saw the thousands of mites. Both rodents and birds that reuse their nests have a chronic problem of mite buildup that can be fatal to the young. Both scavenger and parasitic mites can rapidly increase in the warm nest in a short time. And as the nest is gradually increased over time, more mite survive over the unused time. Mites will develop on organic materials available from both adult and young feces, bits of food, nesting material that may include adult saliva used as an adhesive and young chicks. Mites are too small for the adults to see or remove even if they did. Towards the end of the video it appears that the male was viewing the remaining chick as it was swarming with mites, trying to figure out what was occurring. Naked chicks and rodents are fair game for rapidly developing mite populations. Keep in mind why there are bird baths and why adult birds dust themselves on the ground: removal of mites and other ectoparasites. Those who provide platforms for nesting birds for pleasure or photography should remove the nesting material after the fledge and provide a small amount of similar material on the platform as an incentive for a return. The world is beautiful as your photography records, but we know it also has many other dimensions that are not pleasant but very real. Now that you know I am hopeful that your (doves) fledge rate greatly increases. Thank you for letting me have a say." Thanks again to John. Feel free to comment but keep it clean, relevant and professional. 2014 UPDATE: Let me try to reply to some of the comments made. First, I don't know WHY they died. I NEVER interfered with the birds. My best guess is disease. There were literally thousands of mites all over the nest. The lamp had nothing to do with their deaths. Before this, the doves had raised two successful broods. And AFTER, a pair of robins successfully raise four chicks. As for the music... get over it!! I wasn't able to capture much sound so I used music as best I could to capture the mood and emotion of what's happening. Finally, I'm kind of shocked a level of immaturity of people's posts. Come on!! Keep it clean and relevant! One more thing: a LOT of people commented on the birds "stepping" on the young. I've noticed this throughout all of the different birds that have raised young. It doesn't appear to injure the chicks, but I agree it does seem odd. I have many more hours of other bird activities. I just need to find the time to edit them down to the best and most interesting moments. After raising two successful broods, a pair of mourning doves had their chicks unexpectedly die just days after hatching. I happened to get video the day before and after they hatched. A few days later when I noticed one had died, I set up the video camera to capture the aftermath and how the parents reacted. Truly fascinating view of the natural behavior of how the dove parents handled the situation.
