Treating Hypothyroidism With Synthroid

02:16
Learn How To Cure Hypothyroidism At: http://www.HypothyroidRevolution.org In alternative medicine, there is very little difference in curing hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. This is because the treatment involves assisting the thyroid to heal, in either case. Those with hyperthyroidism should not use iodine, because it could overdrive the thyroid, worsening the condition. Curing thyroid disease requires a long-term commitment for a period of at least a year. Creating this problem took years of self-poisoning, so fixing it is neither quick, nor easy. Hypothyroidism medications are addictive, and the body becomes reliant on them, which is why the mainstream establishment maintains that people must take them forever. Those who have been taking hypothyroidism medications for years must slowly wean themselves from the drugs. Abruptly stopping these medications will result in extreme fatigue, and additional thyroid problems. Treatment Recommendations Eliminate and discard all non-stick cookware Eliminate Soy - Soy suppresses thyroid function, imbalances hormones, and it has been shown to cause goiters (an enlargement of the thyroid gland) in previously healthy individuals, which shows that it disrupts iodine usage. Adhere to an Alkaline Diet - This is extremely helpful when curing any chronic disease. Reference the Body pH and Disease article to guide you. Balance Estrogen Levels (Women) - Excess estrogen slows down the thyroid gland. This means eliminating birth control medications, increasing the fiber in the diet, and avoiding all non-organic meats. Growth hormones in meats lead to imbalanced hormones. Reduce dairy intake, because milk often contains lots of estrogen; primarily because cows are milked frequently during pregnancy. Exercise - Find a physical activity that is fun, and do it often. We believe that exercise could half the cure time in some cases, and curing is not possible without it. Hemp Fiber - This is a broad spectrum supplement and a mild laxative. L-Tyrosine - Tyrosine is a natural amino acid which helps the body produce its own thyroid hormone. This is also known to help with the depression, which usually accompanies hypothyroidism. Most naturopaths recommend that 500 mg. be taken 2-3 times daily. L-Arginine - Arginine is known to stimulate the thyroid and its hormones. It also improves immune function, improves fertility, and alleviates erectile dysfunction. Iodine - The thyroid needs iodine to function properly, and lots of people now suffer from iodine deficiencies. To test yourself, place some iodine (we use 2%) on your stomach. Make a dot the size of a silver dollar (or twice the size of a British 50p). If it disappears within 12 hours, then you are iodine deficient. Keep adding iodine in increasing amounts, until it no longer disappears in a 12-hour period. This works due to the fact that the body absorbs iodine at the rate at which it is needed. Do not use povidone iodine and do not orally consume iodine. This is especially an important precaution for those with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Avoid all sources of fluoride - As already mentioned, fluoride suppresses the thyroid, and is likely to be the leading cause of hypothyroidism. Drink spring water, avoid soft drinks, use fluoride-free toothpaste, use a shower filter, and throw away non-stick cookware. Both coffee and tea naturally contain fluoride, so use iodine to compensate if these drinks are indispensable. Eat a natural diet - To help the body to heal itself, remove burdens on its immune system. This means that all processed foods, artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, white flour, white sugar, table salt, hydrogenated oils, aluminum, high fructose corn syrup, and etcetera should be eliminated from the diet. Organic food is the ideal. Do not trust marketing that reads "All Natural", because this phrase is unregulated, so anyone can use it for anything. Read labels carefully. Chlorophyll - Supplementing with chlorophyll provides essential copper, helps oxygenate the body, builds healthy red blood cells, and it overall assists with skin health. Chlorophyll is a safe method of orally supplementing with copper. Those who are using our Colloidal Copper Lotion are unlikely to need more copper. Zinc and Selenium: Studies indicate that severe zinc or selenium deficiencies can cause decreased thyroid hormone levels. Never take zinc on an empty stomach. Brazil nuts are high in both zinc and selenium. Coconut Oil: Buy organic, cold-pressed, coconut oil from a health food store. Take around 1 teaspoon of it daily. You can also use it to cook with, but be warned that it smokes at low cooking temperatures, so it should only be used for low-heat cooking. Coconut oil speeds the metabolism, encourages production of the thyroid hormone, and kills candida yeast.

http://www.HypothyroidRevolution.org Hypothyroidism Natural Treatment - Tips For Improving Thyroid Health Hypothyroidism natural treatment options are being sought after by many people affected by hypothyroidism. This is mainly due to the side effects, costs and problems associated with traditional hypothyroidism treatment. In this article we will discuss how hypothyroidism works as well as some small things you can do to improve your overall thyroid health. http://www.HypothyroidRevolution.org Background on hypothyroidism: Hypothyroidism is a problem where the thyroid gland produces little thyroid hormone. This condition is an outcome of a dysfunction in the thyroid gland. While there are lots of reasons why the thyroid can become impaired, alternative hypothyroidism natural treatment options are showing people new ways to combat hypothyroidism. How hypothyroidism works: The thyroid is made up of two connected lobes near the front of the neck. The hormones produced by the thyroid gland control the body's metabolic rate. When the thyroid gland doesn't perform correctly, each and every organ with the entire body may be impacted. Hypothyroidism (otherwise known as an under-active thyroid) creates a general depression on the cellular systems which are needed for energy manufacturing. An under-active thyroid will cause the metabolic activities in these cells to go down. When this happens, metabolic wastes than filtrate in to the organs and this causes them to become sluggish. How hypothyroidism affects the body: Hypothyroidism will make a person constantly feel tired and low on power. As one's metabolic process slows down, weight gain and constipation normally occur. Other indicators of hypothyroidism are fatigue, lack of energy, inability to tolerate chilly temperatures, menstrual irregularities, depression, sluggish reflexes, hair loss, dry skin, brittle nails, and puffy eyes. Hypothyroidism natural treatment suggestions: What many people fail to realize is that their daily routine could be contributing to their poor thyroid health. Here is a list of some natural adjustments you can make to help combat hypothyroidism. Eliminate saturated fats from your diet. Reduce or eliminate your soy consumption. Soy is known to depress thyroid performance and can cause an enlargement of your thyroid gland. Alkalinize your body. This really is an efficient way of stopping thyroid dysfunction. Vitamin B3 has been proven to reduce thyroid hormone levels. Women must take into consideration a hormonal balancing plan with progesterone cream to revive a wholesome balance. Eat kelp and other sea vegetables that are large in iodine. Iodine is needed for making the thyroid hormone. Radishes can help keep thyroid hormones balanced. If depression is an issue, try St. John's Wort which is a natural mood elevator. Chronic constipation can be alleviated by including additional dietary fiber to your diet plan. Consider supplementing with zinc and selenium. Severe zinc or selenium deficiencies can trigger decreased thyroid hormone levels. Coconut oil stimulates the thyroid gland and may perhaps help these suffering from hypothyroidism. In the end, hypothyroidism natural treatment options are becoming more and more popular as people start to educate themselves on how hypothyroidism works. While the suggestions pointed out above are some small things you can do to combat hypothyroidism problems, there are also complete hypothyroidism natural treatment programs available that can produce fantastic results.

7 Ways to Naturally Boost Thyroid Function

05:29
7 Ways to Naturally Boost Thyroid Function 1. Add Iodine to your Diet According to the American Thyroid Association, iodine deficiency is a major cause of underproduction of the thyroid hormone. The association notes that your body does not create iodine on its own, so it’s important to ensure it becomes part of your diet. The association suggests trying iodine-rich foods—including eggs, saltwater fish, shellfish, cheese, and even straight up table salt added to food. However, keep in mind that it’s probably not advisable to eat a spoonful of salt on its own. 2. Try Selenium According to the website, Women to Women, selenium could be an ally when it comes to treating thyroid problems. Selenium (in mixed nuts, sunflower seeds, eggs, yogurt, couscous, and mushrooms) is an element that can help our thyroid better deal with stress, and work like a “detox”, according to the site. The site notes that “selenium-based proteins help regulate hormone synthesis”—which in normal speak, means it can help control your metabolism and essentially how your body creates energy. 3. Think Zinc There are typically two major disorders with the thyroid—hypo and hyperthyroidism, which refer to the under and overproduction of thyroid hormones respectively. According to Thyroid UK, zinc deficiency in your diet can lead to both of these conditions. Zinc is an essential mineral that is naturally found in foods—including cooked oysters, lean beef, pork, chicken, spinach, certain seeds, cashews, and, wait for it…chocolate! You can also purchase zinc supplements over the counter if chocolate doesn’t do it for you. 4. Make Friends with Magnesium Magnesium is another essential element that helps our body perform certain key functions. However, experts say most Americans are deficient in magnesium, and that caffeine and sugar-rich foods can actually reduce magnesium in your system. Magnesium is important in converting iodine into thyroid hormones (T4 and T3). That means not getting magnesium can lead to an underactive thyroid, which has symptoms including weight gain, general fatigue, dry skin, and even depression. While magnesium is available in supplements, also try spinach, sweet corn, avocado, shrimp, raisins, bananas, and broccoli. 5. Reduce Stress Probably easier said than done, but assess any stressful situations that you can try to avoid if possible. Exercise also helps your body regulate stress naturally, so it’s good to get out for a brisk walk on your lunch break. Natural News notes that stress creates the stress hormone cortisol, which prevents T3 hormones from getting into your body’s cells. The site also notes that blood tests may not reveal a lack of T3 in your cells, even if your blood count is okay. 6. Cut Soy While pure soy sauce is a source of iodine (which you already know can boost your thyroid), other online sources such as Natural Society recommend cutting out soy products for the benefit of your underactive thyroid. Soy can have “hormone disrupting effects”, according to the site. Soy is apparently high in isoflavones, which can actually end up causing harm to your thyroid. Your thyroid should be able to normalize hormone production if you cut soy from your diet, added the website. 7. Cracking the Case of Coconut Oil Coconut oil may help thyroid function, although there are conflicting reports about its effectiveness for this purpose. For example, Natural Society says coconut oil has long been used to threat underactive thyroids, due to the presence of fatty acids called MCTs that help regulate metabolism. However, on the flipside of the coin, the Mayo Clinic solidly states that coconut oil as a cure for hypothyroidism is a myth, brought on by a popular book a number of years ago. The clinic treads the medical route—which is seeing your doctor to determine if you need thyroid hormone therapy. See Our Another Vedeos: 1. Dr. Kenneth Woliner on Thyroid Medications - Natural vs. Synthetic

01:11
Dr. Kenneth Woliner explains the difference between Natural and Synthetic thyroid therapies. See Dr. Woliner's Blog on this topic! Natural Desiccated Thyroid (NDT) Proves to be Optimal Alternative Approach to Combatting Hypothyroidism Kenneth N. Woliner, M.D., board-certified doctor and holistic medicine expert, will present a poster unraveling the secret success rate of Natural Thyroid, an alternative hypothyroidism treatment vs. the long-standing synthetic thyroid drug, Levothyroxine Sodium on April 14, 2014 at the Florida Academy of Family Physicians Spring Symposium in St. Petersburg, Fla. By Kenneth N. Woliner, M.D. The secret is out, and Natural Thyroid is in. Natural Desiccated Thyroid (NDT), an alternative hypothyroidism treatment, has been suppressed from the market for too long. While Synthroid (levothyroxine sodium), a synthetic, hormone-like bio-equivalent to the natural hormone thyroxine, has dominated the market for decades and the culprit of countless side-effects, the natural approach to hypothyroidism is finally getting its chance to show its worth. More than 12 percent of the U.S. population will develop a thyroid condition in their lifetime -- a number surmounting to more than 20 million Americans with some form of thyroid disease, according to the American Thyroid Association. Women are 5 to 8-times more likely to have thyroid problems than men. So ladies, this article is especially for you. Millions of people with this prevalent condition have been yearning for effective treatment, yet for decades Natural Desiccated Thyroid treatments have been put on the backburner, overpowered by the marketing efforts backing the expensive synthetic thyroid drugs. Introducing the Tomato Effect Just as the 'Placebo Effect' means you think it works, but it doesn't. The 'Tomato Effect' means you think it doesn't work, but it does. The term was coined by Dr. James S. Goodwin, and referred to the misconception that tomatoes were poisonous and, consequently, not consumed in the US until the late 1800s. However, the Italians ate tomatoes in astonishing numbers and, as research developed, they proved to have significant health benefits. Can anyone say pizza? Thus, NDT may have fallen victim to the 'Tomato Effect' -- as a natural treatment to regulating thyroid disorders that many believed was ineffective, when in fact, its numbers continue to prove otherwise. In early 2013, the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism published a double-blind crossover study showing that patients preferred NDT over levothyroxine by over a 2:1 margin. So why are doctors prescribing a less-effective, more expensive T4-only drug, levothyroxine sodium, when patients respond better on natural thyroid? Unfortunately, money, bias and ignorance have stuck many doctors into a "one test, one pill" treatment mentality. Some Natural Desiccated Thyroid brands marketed in the US and Canada includes Nature-Throid, WP Thyroid, Armour Thyroid, and ERFA Thyroid. Based on my professional experience in holistic medicine, natural thyroid extract is well tolerated by my patients; especially when patients on Synthroid continue to experience symptoms of fatigue, weight gain, or brain fog. I advise exploring Natural Desiccated Thyroid treatment, especially when your symptoms remain, despite having lab tests "in range." Don't let the 'Tomato Effect' affect you! How To Cure Hypothyroidism http://www.HypothyroidRevolution.org In alternative medicine, there is very little difference in curing hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

The Hypothyroidism Revolution Program 2018 - Hypothyroidism Diet to Help Heal Your Thyroid

The Hypothyroidism Revolution Program 2018 - Hypothyroidism Diet to Help Heal Your Thyroid CLICK HERE to Learn More https://tinyurl.com/Hypothyroidism12 Below I’ve broken down 10 important tips that are a necessity for any successful hypothyroidism diet. But more importantly, I’ve broken them down so that you also understand why they are so important. All too often, we accept many things that we read as the truth without questioning or verifying the facts with the proper research. Avoid Anti-Thyroid Foods The first hypothyroidism diet tip that I want to share with you is one that is very important. And this is because it’s a controversial topic because there are some highly touted “health foods” that you are eating which are actually contributing to your hypothyroidism. Some of the first foods that come to mind are any food that contains soy. This includes soybeans, edamame, soy milk, tofu, etc. Soy is very estrogenic and estrogens have been shown to inhibit the thyroid gland from secreting its thyroid hormones. Increase Your Saturated Fats Saturated fats on the other hand carry a lot of unfounded negative criticism. Criticizers of saturated fats still continue to cite outdated and poorly executed research studies from more than 50 years ago while ignoring the enormous amount of research showing their benefits. One of the major benefits of the saturated fats being part of your hypothyroidism diet is that they help to cancel out the negative effects of the toxic polyunsaturated fats. Eat Your Fruit Fruit can actually be one of your best friends when it comes to your hypothyroidism diet. For starters, most fruit is very high in potassium which plays an important role in regulating your blood sugar. This helps to decrease the need of insulin which helps keeps your blood sugar more stable for longer periods of time. How To Recognize The Link Between Hypothyroidism And Infertility

02:20
http://www.HypothyroidRevolution.org | Hypothyroidism Natural Treatment - Cure The Disease Naturally http://www.HypothyroidRevolution.org | Hypothyroidism is a condition which usually goes unnoticed for a long time. It is a condition where the thyroid gland is not able to produce enough hormones leading to weight gain, fatigue, insomnia, brittle and dry skin, constipation, dry hair, memory loss, depression, no menses and thickened tongue. People suffering from these symptoms may have to consult a doctor immediately and take the necessary medical help. You can also make use of hypothyroidism natural treatment to get rid of this condition. A person suffering from hypothyroidism may have low levels of hormones like T3 and T4. So a simple way of treatment includes either providing the hormones to the body or helping the body to produce these hormones according to the requirement. Sometimes, the patients are also given hormone treatment which uses natural or synthetic hormones. Synthetic hormones are not very favorable because some of them may develop side effects also. Natural cures for the condition come in different forms of supplements of vitamins and minerals like selenium, iodine, tyrosine, bladder wrack, thyroid glandular and coconut oil. Iodine is very important for producing the thyroid hormones. When it is mixed with amino acids it is transformed to T3 hormones. In the same way, selenium is very important in the production of T4 hormones. Amino acid tyrosine is also very important for producing the hormones. A natural powder called thyroid granular is taken from pigs, cows, and sheep. It helps to improve the overall functioning of the thyroid gland. Bladder wrack is rich in iodine content and helps the gland to function properly. Coconut oil is also a very useful natural component used to treat hypothyroidism. It raises the body temperature and metabolism. The most important part of natural cure is controlling your diet. Iodine rich foods are very useful for treating hypothyroidism. Foods rich in iodine like organic vegetables, seafood and shell fish etc should also be consumed in large quantities. Foods like spinach, broccoli, peanuts, cassava, soybeans and millets reduce the function of the thyroid gland, so you have to avoid these foods. By trying various hypothyroidism natural treatment options you will be able to treat the condition effectively. Use of supplements containing vitamin A, B, C, E and D are very useful.

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism Fatigue, tiredness, or sluggishness Cold feet and/or hands Require excessive amounts of sleep to function Gain weight easily Have difficult or infrequent bowel movements Depression Lack of motivation Morning headaches that wear off as the day progresses Thinning hair or excessive hair loss Dryness of the skin and/or scalp Mental sluggishness Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism Heart Palpitations Inward Trembling Increased Pulse (even at rest) Lose weight easily Difficulty gaining weight Nervous and Emotional Insomnia Night Sweats Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder in which the patient’s immune system attacks the thyroid. Patients that suffer from Hashimoto’s experience some or all of the above symptoms. Let’s talk about the thyroid gland a bit. The thyroid “runs” our metabolism. It is the “gas pedal” of the body. Thyroid hormones have a direct effect on most organs, including the heart, which beats faster and harder under the influence of increased thyroid hormones (this is why heart problems can often accompany chronic thyroid problems in women, and perhaps why heart problems are more common in women under the age of 50). T3 is the more biologically active hormone. It’s more important for cellular function, and in fact, 80% of T4 is converted to T3 in the body’s peripheral tissues. Basically, T4 is just a precursor for the more active hormone, T3. One of the problems in some thyroid disorders is that you may have trouble converting T4 to T3 in your tissues. Have you been checked for this? This can create a deficiency of T3, disrupting the body’s ability to properly regulate metabolism, which leads to specific symptoms. There are some clinicians that are treating thyroid conditions with iodine. I do not recommend iodine in the treatment of thyroid conditions. According to renowned thyroid expert Dr. Datis Kharriazian, author of the book “Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms?”, using iodine to treat thyroid conditions is like throwing gasoline on a fire. How Do We Successfully Treat Thyroid Patient Sufferers? By using specific metabolic and neurological protocols! #1: SPECIFIC METABOLIC TESTING AND TREATMENTS Sensitivity Testing: to determine if you have a sensitivity to gluten (wheat, rye, oats, and barley), milk, eggs, yeast, and soy. If you are sensitive to ANY of these food groups, it could be making your symptoms worse as it will increase inflammation in your brain and throughout your body! Here are some of the symptoms of these sensitivities: Chronic pain or fatigue Frequent indigestion Bloated after eating Frequent loose bowel movements Constipation Mouth ulcers or sores Vomit often The only way to find out if you are suffering from any of these sensitivities is to run these tests. We are one of the only clinics in Bergen County Midland Park, NJ to use a combined functional metabolic and neurological protocol that deals with the TRUE causes of Thyroid Disorders. Hundreds of our patients have been helped with our comprehensive approach to address chronic conditions. Among multiple drug free ways to address your symptoms that our doctors provide, we usually recommend a nutritional supplementation as an adjunct medical treatment. How Work Stress and Your Thyroid Intersect

13:21
How Work Stress and Your Thyroid Intersect with Judy Martin of Work Life Nation In this episode of the Work and Well-Being Update, physical therapist Amy Mcgorry give us some tips on the thyroid and stress. Thyroid got you down? Feeling a bit blue? Have low energy? Maybe you're anxious and can't sleep? Sure, work stress has you pulling your hair out -- but then you realize -- your hair actually IS falling out! Some might chalk it up to stress in the work place when really an underlying thyroid condition may be triggering your symptoms. It's my thyroid - not my project deadline? The thyroid is a gland in your neck that helps regulate your metabolism. When your body does not produce enough Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) you may feel depressed, sluggish or "foggy" in your thinking. You may notice weight gain and see that your hair is falling out. Add to that general body aches and constipation and no wonder you feel down and out! On the other end of the spectrum, when too much TSH is produced in the body, your metabolism goes into "overdrive mode." You may feel anxious and irritable. You may also notice that you are sweating more, losing weight, and having trouble sleeping. You may experience vision disturbances and suffer from bouts of diarrhea. High blood pressure is often accompanied by an overactive thyroid. How do they treat a low or hyper thyroid? Your physician may prescribe a thyroid replacement hormone, such as synthroid or levothyroxine, to be taken every morning on an empty stomach. Blood tests taken regularly will monitor your levels to be sure you are receiving the proper dose. Experts say that certain foods can affect the absorption of your medication. Be sure to check with your physician regarding how long you should wait between taking your dose and eating foods such as walnuts or supplements like iron, calcium and fiber. Some medications like antacids and several cholesterol lowering drugs can also affect absorption. You should begin feeling better a few weeks after starting the medication -- but what do you do about the damage done? A good cardio program consisting of 30 minute intervals performed 4-5 days a week can help tackle weight gain and beat the blues and anxiety. Exercise releases the body's natural "feel good" hormones called endorphins. Strength training 3 days a week can also address muscle weakness that can occur with thyroid issues. Who is at Risk? Studies say that females are more at risk than men for thyroid disease. Other factors that may predispose one to thyroid issues include family history, exposure to radiation, pregnancy, certain medical treatments and medications such as immunosuppressants and antiretrovirals. Some literature says diets involving excessive consumption of raw foods such as brussel sprouts and soy products are may put one at risk for thyroid disease. Stress -- a common culprit Multiple reports say high stress events can also trigger thyroid problems. Be sure to take time for yourself during your work day! Take a deep breath, go for a walk and give yourself a break during the day. Not only will you lower your work stress level - you'll help reduce the chance of thyroid issues. Hair Loss - A Distressing Symptom of an Underactive Thyroid - Help for Hair Loss & Hypothyroidism

02:16
How To Cure Hypothyroidism http://www.HypothyroidRevolution.org In alternative medicine, there is very little difference in curing hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

Is Olive Oil Healthy?

07:21
For more info: https://draxe.com/olive-oil-benefits/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Oct-2015&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=oliveoil Ninety-eight percent of olive oil today is not true extra virgin olive oil but rather fake and causes negative health benefits. In this video, you will learn how to pick out real, quality olive oil. Benefits of a good quality olive oil include: 1) Polyphenols, which are fat-soluble antioxidants that protect the brain and heart which can lower blood pressure, cholesterol and prevent long-term diseases. 2) Monounsaturated fatty acids are good for the heart, support balancing hormones and lubricate joints. 3) Vitamin E improves heart health and increases healthy, glowing skin. Most olive oil today is not true olive oil but is laced with negative ingredients such as soybean oil or canola oil. Top ways to pick the best olive oil: 1) Smell the oil to see if it has a very distinct, strong aroma 2) Dark glass bottle 3) Should harden or get cloudy if put in the refrigerator 4) Look for extra virgin olive oil, certified organic and look at the harvest season date and expiration date on the bottle Is olive oil healthy? Yes, it is great for your heart, brain and hormones but it has to be real extra virgin olive oil. Chiropractor Pittsburgh PA How to Treat Thyroid Problems without medication!

11:06
http://AskDrgoldberg.com 3322 Babcock Blvd, Pittsburgh Pa 15237 412-367-3778 Thyroid Facts One of the most hidden and undiagnosed problem in all of medicine is an under active thyroid, hypothyroid or low thyroid. In front of your throat, between your Adam's apple and top of your breastbone, is a small, butterfly-shaped gland weighing less than an ounce-your thyroid. The thyroid controls metabolism, the process by which food is transformed into energy. it regulates heat production in the body (basal metabolic rate), and influences the circulatory system (heart), sensitivity of the nerves, and muscle health. According to many experts, mild hypothyroidism is fairly common, and is enough to throw the body out of balance. This was documented in the book entitled: "Hypothyroidism:The Unsuspected Illness by Dr. Broda Barnes, M. D. In certain states-Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and West Virginia, this is known as the "Goiter Belt." Meaning there is a lack of iodine in the soil so therefore that affects the thyroid and it can cause goiter (enlarged thyroid). Dr. Barnes found that many symptoms and conditions are related to an unrecognized and under active thyroid. They include fatigue, depression, weight gain, hair loss, menstrual difficulties, impaired memory, mental illness, intestinal problems, low blood pressure, and heart disease, as the thyroid can directly affect the arterial supply to the heart. Synthroid (synthetic thyroid) which is T-4, won't work unless it is converted in the body to T-3, which is the biologically active form. Most people can't do this, because most people have a deficiency of selenium. So therefore if there's no selenium in the body, the body can't convert to T-3. So the two supplements we use in our office are:Iodine and Selenium. Chiropractic Connection to the Thyroid There is a definite chiropractic connection to the health of the thyroid. Meaning the nerves in the lower cervical (C-7) and upper thoracic (T-1) control and regulate the functioning and performance of the thyroid. If the nerves are pinched, due to a mis-aligned vertebrae, that will affect the thyroid. The chiropractic adjustment takes pressure off the nerve and the organ (thyroid) can function closer to 100%. In a study done by Dr.Arthur Croft, D.C. and Dr. Keith Schnert, M.D., their rather startling conclusion, based on standard laboratory testing for thyroid function and basal metabolic temperature (the underarm test), was that "whiplash seems to result in a form of hypothyroidism suggesting direct injury to central tissues." An automobile collision with rear impact is known to generate forces in the head and neck of occupants riding in a vehicle that can be several times greater than the force absorbed by the vehicle itself. If the car behind on impact, is traveling greater than 30 m.p.h., it affects the lower back mostly. However if the car is traveling less on impact than 30 m.p.h., it affects mostly the head and neck (whiplash). Even a fender bender can affect the head and neck, and thus also affect the thyroid. Adjustments for Thyroid Problems In our office patients respond favorably to chiropractic adjustment for the lower neck and upper back, supplementation with thyroid glandulars (thytrophin) from Standard Process, and also iodine. Give our office a call at:412-367-3778, to see if you are a candidate for the conservative management of low thyroid levels.
