Construction Crew Kanban
A kanban is a visual, or auditory device or "signal" to give authorization and instructions in a "pull" system. There are various types of Kanban: 1. Production Kanban- Authorizes a process to produce more or "make" a product or service 2. Withdrawl Kanban - Authorizes a process to withdraw, usually sub-assemblies or components to be used in the next process. This is sometimes called a "move" Kanban In daily life we have all kinds of Kanban around us that simplify and keep our lives orderly. A traffic signal is an excellent example and it is "color-coded" so that we know: Green means "go," red means "stop," and yellow means, go faster to try to make it before the red, right? (just kidding) This video clip shows a concrete construction crew utilizing effective Kanban to get their work done in an effective manner. Enjoy!

Purpose: People's performance during an emergency is only as good their basic level of training. Therefore, practice is critical for effective performance in a real emergency. The purpose of this procedure is to outline how each department and crown corporation) will practice for emergency situations. Procedure: Evacuation drills will be conducted at least once per year at unexpected times and under varying conditions to simulate the unusual conditions that occur should a real evacuation be necessary. Prior to the conducting the drill, all employees should be trained on the evacuation procedure. A summary of the knowledge required is outlined on the "Evacuation Training Template." Evacuation drills will be planned by the Building Warden in consultation with the DM/President and/ or Senior Manager (department/crown corporation to determine which person) responsible for the area/building/workplace. Evacuation drills will involve all staff and visitors. Everyone must leave the building when the fire alarm sounds unless otherwise notified by the Building Warden that it is a test of the fire alarm system only. The Building Warden will record the time to evacuate and any observations and report to the DM/President/Senior Manager (department/crown corporation to determine which person). Observations may be recorded on the "Evacuation Observers Template." The DM/President/Senior Manager (department/crown corporation to determine which person) will report details of the evacuation drills to the Executive Committee for any follow-up action. The final report will be placed in a file maintained by the Building Warden.

Worker Ingenuity Makes Emergency Response System Highly Efficient
There are five new trailers across the Hanford Site that can now respond to almost any emergency. Thanks to the ingenuity of workers, these trailers are ergonomically designed and strategically located to support facility responders serving as command centers, boundary control points and emergency equipment suppliers. The new trailers support decreased responder dress-out times for personal protective equipment, decreased boundary set up times and increased control at event scenes.

Creating a Home Emergency Contractors List - Protecting Homeowners with Useful Home Tips
http://www.homebuildingandrepairs.com/books/index.html If you've ever woken up in the middle of the night to a flooded basement or bathroom floor, you know how handy a home emergency contractors list would have been, if you actually prepared one before the flooding ever happened. With that said, you can create a emergency home damage contractors list with a little help from one of our websites. Here's a link you can click on to find other contractors in your area, http://www.homedamage.gregvan.com/home_emergency_contractors_list.htm you should try to contact at least three plumbers, electricians and emergency repair professionals and it wouldn't be a bad idea to contact some roofers, just in case you have a roof leak. You're going to be looking for contractors or construction companies who have 24 hour emergency response services and have someone in your area. The last thing you want to do, is call a emergency repair professional and find out that the nearest person they have available is more than 30 minutes away and you have water flooding through out your home.

Coastal Hazards: Life on the Edge: Coastal Hazard Mitigation at the Regional Scale
Coastal hazards are a widespread challenge that cost millions (and sometimes billions) of dollars in the U.S. every year due to property loss and spending on mitigation measures. Based on the most recent U.S. Census, over 39% of the U.S. population lives in areas that may undergo significant coastal flooding during a 100-year flood event. Additionally, six of the ten most expensive weather-related disasters in U.S. history have been caused by coastal storms. Reducing risk and responding to coastal hazards is an ongoing challenge that relies on close coordination and cooperation between geoscientists, coastal planners, emergency managers, and communities at all levels. This is the third presentation in the Critical Issues webinar, "Planning for Coastal Storm and Erosion Hazards". This webinar features an introductory talk and three case studies from around the U.S. will cover coastal storm and erosion hazards in the U.S., as well as examples of coastal hazard planning from the Pacific, Gulf, and Atlantic coasts, with a focus on how geoscience informs planning at all levels. Speakers from California, Texas, and Georgia will discuss the impacts of coastal storms and erosion, tools used for coastal hazard mitigation planning in their regions, and examples of community engagement and coordination. Our speakers include: Maria Honeycutt, Coastal Hazards Specialist, NOAA Office for Coastal Management Patrick Barnard, Research Geologist, USGS Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center Jeff Taebel, FAICP, Houston-Galveston Area Council Jennifer Kline, Coastal Management Program, Georgia Department of Natural Resources This webinar is co-sponsored by: American Institute of Professional Geologists; American Meteorological Society; Association of Environmental & Engineering Geologists; Consortium for Ocean Leadership; Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society; Federal Emergency Management Agency; Geological Society of America; Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers; International Association of Emergency Managers; National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; U.S. Geological Survey. Asset, Inspection And Stock Control Manager
Mosaic stock control, asset tagging & inspection manager is a powerful multifaceted tool to support management with the tracking of materials and equipment (such as large plant, small plant, construction hand tools & construction equipment),  on-site. Historically, on site materials tracking and locating have been made complicated by the use of traditional paper based tracking processes. These are invariably labour intensive, unreliable and contribute to the increase in construction costs.
