New Immunotherapy Approved for Metastatic Bladder Cancer

04:45
Patients with metastatic bladder cancer have few treatment options after failure of chemotherapy until now. In early May, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the immunological drug Atezolizumab to treat metastatic bladder cancer. The decision came following results of an international multi-site phase II clinical study published in the March 4 edition of the Lancet. Mayo Clinic’s Florida campus was one of the largest sites involved in the study. Dr. Richard W. Joseph,, Mayo Clinic oncologist involved in the study, says the drug works by helping the patient’s own immune system fight cancer. “Bladder cancer is the ninth most common cancer, causing 165,000 deaths worldwide annually,” says Dr. Joseph, whose research is part of the Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Program within the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center.

Bone Metastases in CRPC: Prognostic for Survival

02:44
In men with castration-resistant prostate cancer, explains Neal D. Shore, MD, FACS, the first sentinel prognostic event is often a bone metastasis. A key goal in treatment is to prevent bone metastases from the outset. The degree of symptoms resulting from bone lesions can vary greatly across men. Skeletal-related events associated with these bone metastases may need different types of palliative or therapeutic treatment

Metastatic bladder cancer treatment explained by CancerBro

00:53
Today, CancerBro will explain metastatic bladder cancer treatment in detail. Watch the video to know how metastatic bladder cancer is treated by oncologists. Video Transcript: Now let's come to the treatment for metastatic bladder tumor. Distant metastasis from bladder cancer may occur to the bones. Or to the liver in form of multiple nodular deposists. It may also spread to one or both the lungs as seen in the figure. Or to the peritoneum in form of multiple peritoneal deposits. Chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment for metastatic disease. But other modalities like surgery, radiation therapy, or bone directed therapy may be used for palliation or relief of symtoms. Always remember that the treatment for metastatic disease is not generally curative. So the intent of the treatment is prolongation of life, reduction of symptoms, and improvement in quality of life of the patient. CancerBro is also active on most social media channels. What Is High Grade Cancer ? Now Sonali Bendre Is Suffering This Type Of Cancer

01:37
Hygrid cancer is extremely dangerous cancer that spreads throughout the body Actually, where the cancer is formed in the body, the cells break through the blood or lymph system to spread to other parts of the body, which is called metastatic cancer. In this way, cancer cells are able to reach other parts of the body and begin to form tumors. That is, the cancer spreads to the whole body in one way. This process is called metastasis. Last stage cancer is only 5 percent of those who survive for five years. Chances are that people who have hygrad cancer, it is very difficult for the doctor to find out that this cancer has finally happened to be said. In this cancer No symptoms always appear. According to doctors, if cancer is in the bone then pain and fracture can occur. If you go into the brain, then the problem of headache emerges. If there is a kidney then there is trouble in breathing. Increasing cancer also affects the nearby tissues. Which can affect any part of the body by spreading it. #highgradecancer #cancer #sonalibendre

Bladder cancer diagnosis/investigations

01:56
Today, CancerBro will explain how bladder cancer is diagnosed. So watch this video to get all your answers related to the diagnosis of the disease. Video Transcript: CancerBro, what are the investigations required to confirm the diagnosis of bladder cancer? Urine analysis is a useful investigation to diagnose bladder cancer. It helps in detecting the presence of blood, malignant cells, and tumor markers in urine. Next important investigation for the diagnosis of bladder cancer is cystoscopy. In this technique, a hallow tube called as cystoscope which is fitted with a camera is inserted into the urethera, and is slowly advanced into the bladder. It helps to confirm the presence of bladder tumor and see it's number, location and extent. Also, it helps in transuretheral resection of bladder tumor which is both, diagnostic as well as therapeutic. As you can see in this figure, only the cancer containing superficial layers of bladder are removed, without damaging the deeper layers. The next imaging modality used for diagnosis of bladder cancer is Intravenous Pyelogram. In this technique, a dye is injected into the arm vein and then a series of X-rat pictures are taken of the urinary tract. In some cases, we may require a Retrograde Pyelogram in which a dye is injected into the ureter with the help of cystoscope, followed by a series of images. Pyelogram may be complemented with other imaging modalities, like CT scan or MRI, which help in better delineating the urinary tract. Also CT scan or MRI of the abdomen and pelvis helps to understand the local extention of the tumor to other structures, and the involvement of reginal lymph nodes. It also helps to diagnose the metastatic involvement of other structures. Imaging of the chest with X-ray or CT scan may be required if clinically indicated. Also, bone scan maybe done if there is a clinical suspicion of bone metastases. These were the investigations required to confirm the diagnosis of bladder cancer and stage the disease. Young Doctors Failed to Timely Recognize Bladder Cancer; Patient Dies of Advanced Metastatic Cancer NY Medical Malpractice & Personal Injury Lawyer Gerry Oginski Explains http://www.oginski-law.com/library/failure-to-diagnose-bladder-cancer.cfm 516-487-8207 Email: Gerry@Oginski-Law.com She was a clinic patient. Coming into the clinic every month or so. During one visit, she made a specific complaint of seeing blood in the toilet bowl after she went to the bathroom. The young doctors in training, known as residents, did the right thing... They ordered a urinalysis. They told her to return the following week for the results. She returned the following week. The young doctor in training told her everything was fine. She told the young doctor that she still had blood in the toilet bowl after she wiped. They told her to get another urinalysis. She did. They told her to return the following week. She did. They told her everything was normal. Except it wasn't. But nobody told her. These young doctors in training failed to properly read and interpret her urinalysis results. The results clearly show that there was microscopic blood in her urine. That's a warning sign for a 65-year-old woman. That needs further workup. That needs referral to a urologist. These were never done. Months later, one of the doctors actually did the correct testing. The results were not good. She was diagnosed with metastatic bladder cancer. This was a treatable cancer. If it had been recognized when she first complained about it. Except it wasn't. This woman died because of advanced bladder cancer that was not timely diagnosed and treated. Watch the video to learn more... Spinal Tumor Symptoms & Reasons

01:27
Back pain, especially in the middle or lower back, is the most frequent symptom of spinal tumors. The pain may increase with activity and is often worse at night. Tumors growing within the vertebrae can make the spinal bones weak, causing them to break and collapse, a condition called a compression fracture. The vertebral fractures, as well as the tumors themselves, can compress spinal cord or spinal nerves, causing pain, numbness and muscle weakness in the arms or legs, or even paralysis with loss of bowel or bladder control in the portion of the body below the tumor. Primary spinal tumors develop inside the spinal canal. They are caused by DNA mutations within cells, which can be inherited from a parent or acquired during the person's lifetime. Metastatic spinal tumors spread from cancerous cells outside the spine to the vertebrae, moving through the circulatory system to the bone marrow, where they form tumors.

This is a patient who presented with arm pain. Frontal and lateral radiographs of the humerus were obtained. In the mid diaphysis of the humerus, there is a lytic lesion within the medullary cavity with an associated pathologic fracture as indicated by the red arrows on both radiographs. This lesion has a poorly defined margin but there is no radiographic evidence of a discrete soft tissue mass. In a patient over the age of 40, the leading differential considerations of a lytic lesion with pathologic fracture is metastatic disease and multiple myeloma. The most common cancers which demonstrate lytic osseous metastases include lung, kidney, and thyroid cancers. This patient had a history of follicular thyroid cancer. PF248
