Obama: 'No Serious Evidence' ObamaCare Is Hurting Economy
"A lot of the, you know, horror stories that were predicted about how this was gonna shoot rates way up and there were gonna be death panels and all that stuff, none of that stuff's happened. And in two weeks, the Affordable Care Act is gonna help millions of more people. And there's no serious evidence that the law, which has helped to keep down the rise in health care costs to their lowest level in 50 years, is holding back economic growth."

Another Way Trump Is Tanking The US Economy That Nobody Mentions
Donald Trump has managed to attack the US economy in ways that he doesn’t even realize, the latest revelation being that his presidency and the resulting anti-US sentiments across the globe have reduced foreign investment into the United States by 32%. That’s a significant loss in investment, and those numbers are expected to climb even higher with Trump’s trade wars and derogatory comments about other world leaders. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.   Link – https://money.cnn.com/2018/07/11/news/economy/foreign-direct-investment-2017/index.html Support us by becoming a monthly patron on Patreon, and help keep progressive media alive!: https://www.patreon.com/TheRingofFire Spread the word! The only reason we're not exactly seeing those effects today is because we're till technically riding the coattails of the Obama economy, and not to mention the fact that most of the harmful Republican policies have only actually been in place and effective for a few months. But according to every credible economist out there, the crash is coming. Furthermore, the recession is coming. Here is another way and this story just came out a few days ago, that Donald Trump and the Republicans are actually harming the U.S. economy without even realizing it. In 2017, foreign investments into the United States, building new businesses, building new offices, creating new companies here in the United States by foreigners have fallen by 32%. Now, yes, global foreign investment dropped by an overall 18% during this same time, but investment here in the United States was almost double the global average. There are lots of reasons for that, specifically the most important one being all of these business owners across the planet understand what is coming for the U.S. economy. They know what kind of economy Republicans create because they're not stupid. They remember the years from 2001 to the beginning of 2009 when George W. Bush and his Republican allies enacted these tax cuts. They cut regulations. Things were booming along just fine until everything absolutely crashed because of these policies. These business leaders from around the globe see what's happening, and they know what's coming. Meanwhile, we have Republicans like Paul Ryan still out there every day talking about how great the economy is. The man's Twitter feed is nothing more than a self congratulatory pat on the back for cutting taxes for corporations while lying to us and telling us that we're the ones getting the benefits. I haven't seen a dime from these tax cuts, nor do I expect to ever see a single penny from the tax cuts that were put in place. The majority of American citizens are in the same boat. We got nothing from this. When the economy crashes, not if but when, the dollar is going to lose more value. That is what foreign investors are terrified of and that's why they're staying away from the United States right now. Let's me clear about this, as much as Donald Trump says he doesn't like foreigners, he doesn't like ... He wants American made businesses, right? Well, we need foreign investment to keep our economy running, to keep things going, to hire more people, to create more jobs, especially at a time when we're starting to lose thousands upon thousands of jobs from Donald Trump's trade wars. The Republicans do not know how to manage an economy. They have proven this every time we've had a Republican in the White House since the year 1981. It is the same story every time. Why the American public continues to fall for it is beyond me. But at this point, at least we can recognize that foreign business leaders and foreign countries know exactly what happens when Republican get control of the economy.

Obama Says Failure to Reduce Debt Will Hurt US Economy
President Barack Obama talked up his plans to scale back spending and reduce the soaring U.S. debt Tuesday, at a town hall meeting in Northern Virginia. The president says failure to do so could inflict serious economic damage, but he expressed optimism that both political parties will ultimately find agreement on spending priorities. The president's comments come a day after ratings giant Standard and Poor's warned the U.S. could lose its triple-A rating if lawmakers fail to act. Mil Arcega has more.

Eight Reasons Why Big Government Hurts Economic Growth
This Center for Freedom and Prosperity Foundation video analyzes how excessive government spending undermines economic performance. While acknowledging that a very modest level of government spending on things such as "public goods" can facilitate growth, the video outlines eight different ways that that big government hinders prosperity. This video focuses on theory and will be augmented by a second video looking at the empirical evidence favoring smaller government.

President Obama says shutdown would hurt economy and government workers
President Barack Obama ramped up pressure on Republicans Monday to avoid a post-midnight government shutdown, saying that failure to pass a short-term spending measure to keep agencies operating would "throw a wrench into the gears" of a recovering economy. Late Monday, Obama called Republican and Democratic congressional leaders but there was no breakthrough in the budget impasse. Earlier, Obama urged House Republicans to pass a short-term spending bill free of any conditions that would weaken the nation's three-year-old health care law. Obama spoke after the Senate rejected a House proposal to delay implementation of the health care law. The stock market dropped on fears that political gridlock between the White House and a tea party-heavy Republican party would prevail. As lawmakers squabbled, Obama urged them to act responsibly. "You don't get to extract a ransom for doing your job, for doing what you are supposed to be doing anyway, or just because there is a law there that you don't like." In a fast-paced series of events, the Senate voted 54-46 to reject a House-passed measure that would have kept the government open while delaying implementation of the health care law for a year and permanently repealing a medical device tax that helps finance it. House Republicans, reacting swiftly, decided to try again. Their new proposal was to allow the government to remain open, while imposing a one-year delay in a requirement in the health care law for individuals to purchase coverage or face a financial penalty. Their measure also would require members of Congress to bear the full cost of their own coverage by barring the government from making the customary employer contribution. "This is a matter of funding the government and providing fairness to the American people," said Speaker John Boehner. Boehner has been under pressure from conservatives to use the stopgap spending bill and subsequent legislation to raise the nation's borrowing authority to delay or cut federal finances to the health care law as a way of stopping it in its tracks. Democrats said the House GOP measure was doomed in the Senate, and would meet the same fate as every other attempt to delay the law that passed in 2010 and was upheld by the Supreme Court. The health care law is entering a crucial new stage on Tuesday when people begin to sign up for the insurance marketplaces set up under the law to help the uninsured. "One faction of one party in one house of Congress in one branch of government doesn't get to shut down the entire government just to re-fight the results of an election," Obama said in the White House briefing room. The spending fight is a prelude to the bigger confrontation over the nation's credit limit, expected to hit its 16.7 (t) trillion US dollar cap in mid-October. Obama on Monday urged Republicans not to saddle the legislation to increase the debt ceiling with measures designed to undermine the health care law. He has vowed not to negotiate over the debt ceiling, noting that a default would be worse for the economy than a partial government shutdown. "Congress needs to keep our government open, needs to pay our bills on time, and never ever threaten the full faith and credit of the United States of America, and time is running out," he said. A shutdown would cause an uneven impact across the face of government, sending hundreds of thousands of workers home and inconveniencing millions of Americans who rely on government services or are drawn to the nation's parks and other attractions. Many low-to-moderate-income borrowers and first-time homebuyers seeking government-backed mortgages could face delays. Once they departed, they would be under orders not to do any government work. Why Are American Health Care Costs So High?
In which John discusses the complicated reasons why the United States spends so much more on health care than any other country in the world, and along the way reveals some surprising information, including that Americans spend more of their tax dollars on public health care than people in Canada, the UK, or Australia. Who's at fault? Insurance companies? Drug companies? Malpractice lawyers? Hospitals? Or is it more complicated than a simple blame game? (Hint: It's that one.) Obama Economy Has Hurt the Middle Class
President Obama likes to talk about helping the middle class, but his economic policies have done anything but help. In fact, he's made it worse. Thanks to the Obama Economy, American families are struggling under the weight of high gas prices, rising health insurance costs, college tuition hikes, and falling home values. It's time for the president to stop clinging to his failed economic policies and work with Republicans to pass reforms that will bring real relief to ordinary Americans.

Understanding the National Debt and Budget Deficit
In which John discusses the US national debt, the federal budget deficit, plans for shrinking or eliminating the deficit, and tries to provide some context to the political rhetoric and statistics that are constantly thrown around in an election season. Along the way, I hope you'll understand why the United States' sovereign debt hasn't led us to an economic crisis, but also why budget deficits need to shrink in order to ensure that credit remains inexpensive and the US continues to enjoy the trust of the world economy. (Friendly reminder: Educational videos, by extensive precedent, are allowed to be longer than 4:00.) Here's why I think the gold standard is a bad idea: 1. By restricting money supply to the supply of gold, you risk shrinking the money supply just because of a shock leading to a disruption in supply from mining. This creates a lot of volatility in the money supply for no reason. 2. The gold standard limits a government's ability to respond to changes in the market, which can (and has) led to unescapable deflationary spirals. 3. Far from inspiring investor confidence, its implementation would crush it: http://www.ocregister.com/opinion/gold-369936-standard-money.html Posters and stuff: http://dftba.com My tumblr: http://fishingboatproceeds.tumblr.com My twitter: http://www.twitter.com/realjohngreen HERE ARE A LOT OF LINKS TO NERDFIGHTASTIC THINGS: Shirts and Stuff: http://dftba.com/artist/30/Vlogbrothers Hank's Music: http://dftba.com/artist/15/Hank-Green John's Books: http://amzn.to/j3LYqo ====================== Hank's Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/hankgreen Hank's Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/hankimon Hank's tumblr: http://edwardspoonhands.tumblr.com John's Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/realjohngreen John's Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/johngreenfans John's tumblr: http://fishingboatproceeds.tumblr.com ====================== Other Channels Crash Course: http://www.youtube.com/crashcourse SciShow: http://www.youtube.com/scishow Gaming: http://www.youtube.com/hankgames VidCon: http://www.youtube.com/vidcon Hank's Channel: http://www.youtube.com/hankschannel Truth or Fail: http://www.youtube.com/truthorfail ====================== Nerdfighteria http://effyeahnerdfighters.com/ http://effyeahnerdfighters.com/nftumblrs http://reddit.com/r/nerdfighters http://nerdfighteria.info/ A Bunny (\(\ ( - -) ((') (')

President Obama September 28th, 2013 Weekly Address - Implementing the Affordable Care Act
The White House Office of the Press Secretary For Immediate Release September 28, 2013 Weekly Address: Averting a Government Shutdown and Expanding Access to Affordable Healthcare Hi, everybody. This Tuesday is an important day for families, businesses, and our economy. It's the day a big part of the Affordable Care Act kicks in, and 10s of 1,000,000s of Americans will finally have the same chance to buy quality, affordable health care as everyone else. It's also the day that a group of far-right Republicans in Congress might choose to shut down the government and potentially damage the economy just because they don't like this law. I'll get to that in a second. But first-- here's what the Affordable Care Act means for you. If you're one of the vast majority of Americans who already have health care, you already have new benefits you didn't before, like free mammograms and contraceptive care with no copay, and discounts on prescription medicine for seniors. You've already got new protections in place too, like no more lifetime limits on your care, no more discriminating against children with preexisting conditions like asthma, or being able to stay on your parents' plan until you turn 26. That's all in place and available to Americans with health insurance right now. If you don't have health insurance, or if you buy it on the individual market, then starting this Tuesday, October 1st, you can visit HealthCare.gov to find what's called the health insurance marketplace in your state. This is a website where you can compare insurance plans, side-by-side, the same way you'd shop for a TV or a plane ticket. You'll see new choices and new competition. Many of you will see cheaper prices, and many of you will be eligible for tax credits that bring down your costs even more. Nearly 6 in 10 uninsured Americans will be able to get coverage for $100 or less. If you're one of the up to half of Americans with a preexisting condition, these new plans mean your insurer can no longer charge you more than anyone else. They can't charge women more than men for the same coverage. And they take effect January 1st. So get covered at HealthCare.gov. And spread the word. These marketplaces will be open for business on Tuesday, no matter what. The Affordable Care Act is one of the most important things we've done as a country in decades to strengthen economic security for the middle class and all who strive to join the middle class. And it is going to work. That's also 1 of the reasons it's so disturbing that Republicans in Congress are threatening to shut down the government-- or worse-- if I don't agree to gut this law. Congress has 2 responsibilities right now: pass a budget on time, and pay our bills on time. If Congress doesn't pass a budget by Monday-- the end of the fiscal year-- the government shuts down, along with many vital services the American people depend on. On Friday, the Senate passed a bill to keep the government open. But Republicans in the House have been more concerned with appeasing an extreme faction of their party than working to pass a budget that creates new jobs or strengthens the middle class. And in the next couple days, these Republicans will have to decide whether to join the Senate and keep the government open, or create a crisis that will hurt people for the sole purpose of advancing their ideological agenda. Past government shutdowns have disrupted the economy. This shutdown would, too. At a moment when our economy has steadily gained traction, and our deficits have been falling faster than at any time in 60 years, a shutdown would be a purely self-inflicted wound. And that's why many Republican Senators and Republican governors have urged Republicans in the House of Representatives to knock it off, pass a budget, and move on. This brings me to the 2nd responsibility Congress has. Once they vote to keep the government open, they must also vote within the next couple weeks to allow the Treasury to pay the bills for the money that Congress has already spent. Failure to meet this responsibility would be far more dangerous than a government shutdown-- it would be an economic shutdown, with impacts not just here, but around the world. The American people have worked too hard to recover from crisis to see extremists in their Congress cause another one. And every day this goes on is another day that we can't continue the work of rebuilding the great American middle class. Congress needs to pass a budget in time, pay its bills on time, and refocus on the everyday concerns of the people who sent them there. That's what I'm focused on. That's what I'll keep fighting for. Thank you.

For Immediate Release August 17, 2013 WEEKLY ADDRESS: Working to Implement the Affordable Care Act WASHINGTON, DC— In this week's address, President Obama said we are on the way to fully implementing the Affordable Care Act and helping millions of Americans. Unfortunately, a group of Republicans in Congress are working to confuse people and are even suggesting they will shut down the government if they cannot shut down the health care law. Health insurance isn't something to play politics with, and the President will keep working to make sure the law works as it's supposed to, and he encourages everyone to visit HealthCare.gov to find out more about the law and how to sign up. The audio of the address and video of the address will be available online at www.whitehouse.gov at 6:00 a.m. ET, August 17, 2013. Remarks of President Barack Obama Weekly Address The White House August 17, 2013 Hi, everybody. Over the past few weeks, I've been visiting with Americans across the country to talk about what we need to do to secure a better bargain for the middle class. We need to rebuild an economy that rewards hard work and responsibility; an economy built firmly on the cornerstones of middle-class life. Good jobs. A good education. A home of your own. A secure retirement. And quality, affordable health care that's there when you need it. Right now, we're well on our way to fully implementing the Affordable Care Act. And in the next few months, we'll reach a couple milestones with real meaning for millions of Americans. If you're one of the 85% of Americans who already have insurance, you've already got new benefits and protections under this law that you didn't before. Free checkups, mammograms, and contraceptive care. Discounted prescription medicine on Medicare. The fact you can stay on your parents' plan until you turn 26. And much, much more. And it's okay if you're not a fan of the Affordable Care Act -- you can take advantage of these things anyway. If you don't have insurance, beginning on October 1st, private plans will actually compete for your business. You can comparison shop in an online marketplace, just like you would for cell phone plans or plane tickets. You may be eligible for new tax credits to help you afford the plan that's right for you. And if you're in the up to half of all Americans who've been sick or have a preexisting condition, this law means that beginning January 1st, insurance companies have to cover you -- and they can't use your medical history to charge you more than anybody else. You can find out more about the law, and how to sign up to buy your own coverage right now at HealthCare.gov. Tell your friends and neighbors without insurance about it, too. And tell your kids that there's a new, easy way to buy affordable plans specifically tailored to young people. Many Members of Congress, in both parties, are working hard to inform their constituents about these benefits, protections, and affordable plans. But there's also a group of Republicans in Congress working hard to confuse people, and making empty promises that they'll either shut down the health care law, or, if they don't get their way, they'll shut down the government. Think about that. They're actually having a debate between hurting Americans who will no longer be denied affordable care just because they've been sick -- and harming the economy and millions of Americans in the process. And many Republicans are more concerned with how badly this debate will hurt them politically than they are with how badly it'll hurt the country. A lot of Republicans seem to believe that if they can gum up the works and make this law fail, they'll somehow be sticking it to me. But they'd just be sticking it to you. Some even say that if you call their office with questions about the law, they'll refuse to help. Call me old-fashioned -- but that's lousy constituent service. And it's not what you deserve. Your health insurance isn't something to play politics with. Our economy isn't something to play politics with. This isn't a game. This is about the economic security of millions of families. See, in the states where governors and legislatures and insurers are working together to implement this law properly -- states like California, New York, Colorado and Maryland -- competition and consumer choice are actually making insurance affordable. So I'm going to keep doing everything in my power to make sure this law works as it's supposed to. Because in the United States of America, health insurance isn't a privilege -- it is your right. And we're going to keep it that way. Thanks. And have a great weekend.

Where you grow up matters in an unequal economy. Here’s how.
Is geographic mobility the key to moving up the economic ladder? Economists are finding that the odds no longer favor American kids in doing better than their parents, but some hope that uprooting their families and moving to safer streets with better schools will guarantee a brighter economic future. Economics correspondent Paul Solman explores the link between location and inequality.

Tax Man Cometh
As Americans get ready to file their taxes on April 15th President Obama and Congressional Democrats are continuing their binge spending agenda that will raise Americans tax burden and hamper the economy. Instead of focusing on creating jobs and opportunity, the Democrats plan leaves no tax untouched. President Obama passed a government-run heath care bill that includes $570 billion in job-killing tax increases over the next decade and will increase the burden on every state. Adding salt to the wound, President Obamas budget is set to allow portions of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire next year, effectively raising taxes by $1 trillion, the largest tax increase in American history. The dreaded Tax Man will now become omnipresent in the lives of all Americans. President Obama and Congressional Democrats seem to love the Tax Man, but Americans know better. These taxes will hurt small businesses, kill jobs and further damage our fragile economy. Republicans have better ideas, period. Republicans want to reduce taxes on investments and job creators, Republicans want to use tax incentives to provide health care for all Americans. Republicans can and will do better by the American taxpayer. RNC Chairman Michael Steele

Iran oil threats to hurt economy - $5 gas?
While Obama delays the American oil pipeline and drilling for domestic oil the threats from Iran are expected to drive up the price of gasoline and oil. Thank an environmentalist wacko and Obama for $5 gas. The Obama administration seems to be doing everything it can to raise the price of energy. This is slowing the economy, killing jobs, hurting the poor and the middle class and raising the cost of virtually everything. Environmentalists don't want oil drilling and they don't care that this reduces supply and raises prices. In fact, they want prices to rise. So we have a president who promised a plan that would 'skyrocket' electricity rates, an EPA that bases its illegal and tyrannical power grab on fraudulent data and suppressed any dissent, and an administration that is collectively working to ruin the oil, steel, coal, and cement industries. An administration that ignores the will of the people and its congress and seems to be doing all it can to destroy jobs and the economy while promising to make jobs and economic growth its first priority. Just look at the ideologues Obama chooses as his advisers. His cabinets are pushing "environmental justice" as a scheme for redistributing wealth. His energy secretary Steven Chu is on the record as having said we need higher gas prices like those in Europe. Obama warned us during his 2008 campaign that "under my plan electricity rates will necessarily have to skyrocket." Obama hired an anti-commerce commerce secretary in John Bryson. Senator Inhofe has called Obama's EPA a "growing menace to the economy." John P. Holdren, who then-President-elect Barack Obama nominated as director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in December 2008, called just five months before his nomination for a global climate-change agreement that would allow wealth to be redistributed from countries in the global "North" to countries in the "South." Obama also picked a "spread the wealth" progressive lawyer for his top economist. Are we going to believe what they SAY or what they DO? Read: "Obama pushes up oil, gas and electric rates as he promised" "Consumers pay 38% extra for 'renewable' energy mandates" "Obama warned us he would make electricity rates 'skyrocket'" "Subsidy for wind energy will raise electricity prices on everyone" "Why Liberals and Environmentalists Want High Gas Prices" "EPA to raise electric costs based on false science and economics" "American energy can jump-start US recovery but Obama blocks" "Congressional report says Obama administration intentionally causing high gas prices" "Obama warns Americans not to panic while he ruins the economy"
