Learn to talk about having the flu in 6 minutes
[Images: GETTY IMAGES] For a while now, the expression 'man flu' has been controversial. Many men say it's real, while many women say they are just being weak. But why is it that men seem to suffer, or complain, more when they get sick than women do? A recently published study may have the answer. Can science prove that men really do suffer more, or do they just moan instead of getting on with it? Dan and Neil teach six items of vocabulary and discuss the issue. Flu Symptoms vs Cold Symptoms; How to Tell the Difference
How do you know if you have flu vs. cold symptoms? It is National Influenza Vaccination Week and time for a review. At http://urgentcarewesthartford.com we get asked that question regularly. Often times taking your temperature is the give away. Flu symptoms and cold symptoms often mimic one another: both can have nasal congestion, cough, body aches, headaches and malaise. A common cold, however, rarely has symptoms of fever above 100 degrees. With flu symptoms, you will probably have a fever initially with the flu virus and you will feel miserable. Body and muscle aches are also more common with the flu. Watch this Doctors Express Medical Minute to find out how to diagnose flu, treat it and when to see a doctor http://youtu.be/umR6mSr5m4I

How can I help my child who has the flu?
The flu is a virus that can spread quickly through communities because of how it's spread. Someone who is infected with the virus can simply cough or sneeze and infect someone who is standing close by when they inhale the droplets. Or they could cough and sneeze, and the germs get on objects like shopping carts, or railings, doorknobs, and someone who is healthy comes along and touches those objects, then touches their face - now they're infected too. The most common symptoms of the flu include fever, body aches, chills, headache, sore throat, you might have a dry hacky cough, or have a stuffy runny nose. Small children may also throw up and have diarrhea when they get the flu. All of these things are very normal. Now thankfully, most of the time, it runs its course after 1 to 2 weeks, and people can move on without having complications. But for young children, it can affect them more adversely, especially children who are under the age of 2. So if your child ever has flu-like symptoms, and their symptoms are getting worse instead of better, be sure to talk with your pediatrician. And after asking you more specific questions and performing an exam, they can decide if anything else needs to be done for them. Now there is no treatment for the flu, but sometimes things need to be done to support someone who has a bad case of the flu through it until they get better. Really, the best thing you can do for your children when they catch the flu is encourage lots of rest, encourage them to drink more frequently, and give them foods that are easy to digest - like toast, yogurt, fruit, juice, those sorts of things. Give them lots of TLC (tender love and care). And of course you can use over-the-counter medications that reduce fevers and pain, as recommended by your doctor. You can also use a cool mist vaporizer for stuffiness, and that loosens secretions and helps make it easier for their little bodies to manage. Or do a steam session in the bathroom before they go to bed. All of these things can be helpful. Now of course, one of the most important things that you can do for everyone in your house is get them a flu shot if they're 6 months of age or older, and this is the best way to protect yourself and your family. In addition to this, wash your hands and encourage your children to wash their hands frequently, stay away from people who you know are sick, and if your family gets sick, stay home until all the symptoms are gone so it doesn't pass to other people. If you have an older child that comes home from school and is sick, but you don't want anyone else to get it, then decontaminate frequently touched surfaces in your home - like doorknobs, countertops, railings, light switches, all of those sorts of things. And try to keep kids as isolated as you can, making sure they don't share drinks or food, and if they're using tissues, they throw them away right away. Teach them to cough and sneeze into their elbow. And when you take all of these precautions, hopefully you'll all stay well. Good luck with everything, and if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.

Will is still sick, so let me show you guys how to treat the flu... ---JANUARY 2, 2016--- yesterday was Jesse's last day in LA. thing is, since he spent pretty much the whole trip running around, he decided to take it easy all day and binge Sense8. except for the part when he came with me to the grocery store to get stuff to make soup for Will. we're sad to see him go, but we'll see him soon! and as for Will, he's thankfully getting better! not sure if its the soup or the fluids or the bed rest or all those things, but his fever is down! meanwhile, I decided to sleep on the couch just to be safe. same day previous four years: 2012 - BACK TO REALITY https://youtu.be/9EpkAonM6aY 2013 - NYC SHOPPING https://youtu.be/xMqIfpLEuP0 2014 - OUCH MY LEGS https://youtu.be/Rj-_i2cjIxE 2015 - MYSTERIOUS GIANT BOX https://youtu.be/9GbwQAx0eW0 wanna mail us something?
